It's not only refilling it that people don't like, I guarantee you that those same people have no issue with changing their oil when it's time. What people don't like is that they are forced to have a useless and unnecessary system.

This. It's completely ridiculous and just to please tree hugging bastards that think diesel is evil.

Then I suggest you buy a Cummins and enjoy not having a urea injection system. Hope that makes ya real happy cause the rest of the truck is outclassed by GM and Ford hardcore.

And buy it quick Sarah. 2012 last year of the non piss tank cummins lol. The new dmax in stock form is unreal but The LML is sad too, GM blocked off the ECM from tuning. In other words EFI Live isn't available for the new dmax

Ram has locked out tuners on their Hemi currently & am curious what GM will do for the 2014's gassers just around the corner.

Haven't heard of Ford locking out either gas or diesels yet. But do not know that for sure either way.

Personally think it is complete bs that a buyer is locked out of options that they may think will improve what they own, particularly for the price these things all are.

Well they offer the warranty so it's their right to do so.

Still its your right to do what you want with what you own. I think if you spend 85k on a new duramax you should be allowed to do whatever the hell you wanna do if you don't care about your warranty...

My question is when will all these western world manufacturers wake the hell up and turn to diesel technology. Diesel is cleaner, more fuel efficient, lasts longer and has more usable torque than any other type of gas engine. Diesel technology has

Come so far but yet we are stuck with these options for them. GM needs to make a diesel half-ton.

Not to upset you man but diesel is not superior or cleaner than gas- that's absurd, it's even debatable if it's more fuel efficient anymore with all the emissions- and it's only going to get worse. Gas engines have come a long way as well, and they are only going to get better. No need to explain what diesels are best at, we all know, but the gas is a much better "all around" platform that is much less complex and inexpensive.

A diesel engine is way more simple than a gas engine but a gas engine is a way nicer daily driver.

It would be nice but I think for small trucks like half tons a diesel is just annoying . Harder to start in the cold, expensive to change oil and do maintenance, and if anything breaks cost a arm and a leg.

Hell I get annoyed that I have buttons for 4x4 instead of a shifter. Since I drive diesels every day I'm working, and in all conditions, whatever the annoyances may be I don't notice them anymore. If there was a half ton diesel here, I would have one. Maybe it's time to move to the UK or Australia.

I agree the architecture of the diesel block itself s simple, but it's all the crap around the engine they do to try to make it "desireable to the masses" that makes them so complex and expensive, and costly to maintain and repair!

speaking of harder to start in the winter, does anyone elses half ton have a block heater? mine does havent had to use it yet, but thought that was pretty nifty.

Never had one nor I have I needed it. My vehicles have always started even on the coldest mornings. I just let them idle for a while to warm up. If you get one make sure to get a timer as if it runs all night your electric bill will be ugly.

Some more things to add, I thought that there was a can of spray paint it in the way it rattled! I have a gravel drive way and that thing would just about shake you out of the cab. Also it looked like they forgot to put any bolts in the bed to keep it on the frame. It bouced around a lot going down the drive way, That was the one thing I feared most about having my truck taken so far apart is that it would rattle after the repairs, but so far no problems.

I'm sure as I think of more things I will post them here. :jester:

Thanks for the review! Very interesting to see real world impressions of it as I've heard so many mixed reviews of it. The bed bounce is something in my experience GM has really mastered. I was across town working on the wiring on my trailer and left a pair of needle nose pliers on the rear bumper and drove home through a construction zone nonetheless and they were still on the bumper when I got home.

Pretty sure 99% of the cars and trucks up here have them. I never use mine unless its going below -30c

I don't plan on using it idk anyone that has one I have the newest truck of all my friends and being that it's not a diesel I was surprised. I do the same thing just let it idle.

They make a difference for actually starting the car. But besides that, back to topic, I wouldn't doubt gm will have a similar engine to the Eco boost just to compete. So we can bash this ford thing all was want and give it ba ratings but in sure in 2 years from now, there will be a bunch of you driving economic trucks with 6 cyl in them

I won't, for sure . I'll wait until the manufacturers are pressured to bring us a turbo V8! It may not be for a while because they are trying so hard to promote and push the diesels on everyone, and a turbo V8 would definately hurt diesel sales, but it will happen.
