Removing Catalytic Converter

For some reason my Catalytic converter has alot of rust and basically rotting away how easy is it to remove the converter and put in a different style to allow more flow. Does the catalytic converter need to be installed and if it was removed would it set off alarms within the vehicles dash warning lights.

It would be no different than any other exhaust component, you'd need to likely cut the old one out and weld in a new one. Eliminating the cat will cause the check engine light to come on.

Magnaflow makes replacment cats..

It doesnt have to go back in.. You can get a tune and just eliminate the cat pysically and thru the ecm and have no lights on

My 8.1 has the cats removed and tuned for it, I have no lights on and the truck runs amazing!

 

Just add an X-pipe before the mufflers to keep some backpressure..

i punched out cats on my 06 as well, didnt really notice much difference other than a little bit diff sound at WOT...

Your truck does not need a cat to function. If it's rusty i say cut them off and have a piece of pipe welded in. Your check engine light will come and your mpg might drop slightly but your truck will run fine. As some have said you can get the cats tuned out via blackbear or something like that or i have been reading you can use an o2 sim to fool the truck... Best of luck!
