USB stick format/file structure for OGM1?

Is there some particular formatting of an external USB drive that needs to be set up? Or is there a particular format the playlist (.m3u or .pls) file needs to be in for the OGM-1 to read the drive as a music source?

 

I tried setting up a thumb drive with some tunes and it didn't read the files without me digging through the search menu, finding a music folder and selecting a song. Then it would only play the songs in that band subfolder. I used MediaMonkey to send a playlist of music to the thumb drive (formatted as FAT32); the resulting file structure set up a playlist file on the root of the drive (.m3u), then set up a Music folder, and subfolders for each album from the various artists that I'd selected tracks from. When I plugged the USB drive in to the USB port on the dash (I've set up the media link to work with a USB hub and keep the dash-mounted USB port alive) and selected USB, the OGM1 did not find any music. I had to search, and the playlist file was not showing up at all...and I wasn't able to make the unit play anything other than the songs in each 'artist' subfolder'.

 

I went back to the computer and re-formatted the drive, then placed all the tracks alone in the root of the drive. Again, the OGM1 wouldn't play any of the tracks (there's no playlist file this time).

 

Is there a particular file structure the OGM1 looks for? Is it simply a matter of using a different format for the playlist file (.pls vs .m3u)? Should I use MS Media Player to set up the usb drive?

I set mine as a mp3 to get it to play.
