All of you 6.2 owners will have a 3.23 rear ratio unless you have the max tow gearing at 3.42.

Seems like a bit of a difference between MGS on a 3.23 rear and 3.42.

I have the 5.3  3.42 and my average is only around 17-18

Best highway I have seen is 23. But no way do I average 20-21 even babying it trying to keep things in V4

best Ive gotten is 24.7 according to computer.

average in the 19-21 range depending.

at one point towing the trailer it was in the 7s

Change tires? I’m still on the stock Goodyear LS2’s.

My 14 5.3 with the 3:42 got tops 20mpg highway which was standard and was horrible while towing a 7K# trailer got me at best 5mpgs and absolutely sucked on fuel mpg’s too and it too had same as yours but you know I’ve seen lots of people rave about their 5.3’s with the 3:42 rear end getting mid 20’s on mpg. I didn’t think about it when I ordered my 18 6.2, but I still think it’s the engine. Less push to go, lots more power and torque just holds much better

I do not tow alot.

The 3.42 shines most on the highway in hilly terrain here in Mo.

Not as much downshifting.

I just wished it'd drop a gear here and there so it doesn't lug so much.

Well thank you Marty!

Back when I was in Scouts...….  our summer camp used to announce "Useless Information for the Day" every day at breakfast.

Sometimes I cannot seem to break this habit LOL :smash:

I've been a long time lurker here, but I just want to post my fuel mileage situation.

Vehicle: 2014 Silverado LT 5.3, 3.08 gear ratio, 2.5" level, 32" tires.

Mileage: I bought the truck at ~30k miles, I was getting an average of 16.5 mpg up in Alaska on winter blend fuel, moved down to FL and now I'm getting at best 13.5 mpg with mid grade and as low as 11.5 with E85. I do 50 miles highway and about 3 miles city every day and I drive very conservatively.

I didn't buy the truck for its fuel economy, but something seems off.

That is about what I am getting with the 6.2 and 3.23 rear as an overall, lifetime average.  I am getting 17.6 mpg at 25,100 miles and that includes towing a trailer for 5,000+ miles of that at 10 - 12 mpg.  Typical highway mileage is 20 - 21 mpg and around town is 15 - 16 mpg.  I am happy with that performance.  I got similar mileage numbers with my 2014 Tahoe with a 5.3L, 6-speed and 3.42 rear except my around town mileage was 14 - 15 mpg; my lifetime average (69,000 miles) was 16.9 mpg (including towing about 7,000 miles at 8 - 9 mpg).  So those numbers are definitely not out of line.

Your numbers are good Bob.

It seems there is a big difference between mpg with a 3.42 gear vs 3.23

At this point i would rather have the 3.23

I have the 3.42 gears and overall pretty satisfied. Usually check MPG's on runs up to our camp approx 75 miles from home. 8 miles at average of 40 mph, then 57 miles on the interstate with cruise set at 70, then another 7 miles on back roads around 45-50.

If I'm running with nothing loaded it gets 15 mpg, 20.5, and back to 15 again. About 17-18 average for the trip.

If running loaded: groceries, utility trailer with a John Deere lawn tractor, weed eater, gas, and any tools I might need (2200 lbs towed), and 2 adults it drops 1-1.5 mpg to 16-16.5 for the trip.

Quite happy with this. It's 3 mpg better than the F-150 with the 5.4L and 3.55 gears I traded in.

Not sure if there would be any benefit going to the 3.23 in my case IMHO.:D

Try driving in tow-mode and see if that helps.  Tow-mode holds the gears till a higher rpm is reached before shifting than when in normal-mode.  It’s much the same logic used for sports-mode in performance cars.  Anyway, give it a go.

With the 3.23, you lose tow rating but gain mileage.  It tows just fine as long as you don't get over about 7600 lbs of tow GVWR.  Mine is rated to 9,100 lbs (it's a Z71 4x4, so some reduction overall).  For what I will tow now and in the future, this is just fine.  Plus I use it as a commuter so it is a compromise.  If I want to tow a big trailer or a 5er, I will buy a 3500 Duramax anyway.

I think the big difference is between the 6-speed and 8-speed tranny.  If my old Tahoe had the 8-speed, I would have seen better mileage overall and a better tow rating.

I have a 2014 6.2L with the 3.73 rear end (Max Tow) and I've averaged 12.7 L/100 km (18.5 US MPG) over the lifetime of the vehicle. A lot of that is highway driving but some of that is towing also, with winter fuel a lot of the year. I never put 87 or 89 in it, and overall quite happy with the vehicle. I highly recommend the 6.2L engine, it was the main reason I swapped from a 2500 since I didn't want a diesel.

    • I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.
    • I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below. I found this thread on the Yukons, but it seems like there may not be a part number for the 2021 sierras. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/255339-adding-hard-button-for-camera-on-2021/ Anyone else figured this out. Seems like it would need to be a custom switch!   I am getting ready to install the auto stop/start eliminator, so would be nice to knock them out at once.     Upvote1Downvote0Go to comments
    • Looks like the entire state is burning. 😬
    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
