I have a newly installed complete 2.5" RC level kit and my truck rides pretty rough. Now when towing my boat (#3400) the truck bounces going down the road.

At first I thought I needed to change my tongue weight which I did by swapping receivers from a 2" drop to a 4" drop which put more weight on tongue. That sucker still bounces and is driving me crazy. If anyone has experienced this or may know how to correct it I would definitely appreciate your input.

 

I have had so many issues with the dealer and the 2.5" level kit they installed and now this bouncing crap. I am regretting not going with the Bilsteins and wondering can I add them now to help the ride.

I've noticed mine bounces as well but only on concrete highways, when it is asphalt I have no issues. My buddy seems to think it's bc of the curve in the concrete sections and the length of the wheelbase on the truck along with the off road suspension. It creates a perfect storm for this bouncing crap. Have you noticed it on concrete highways only?

Same ride with mine and the 1.5" level and alignment, if it helps or matters. .

I haven't really noticed the asphalt thing but mine seems to do it all the time. I don't see how it would be something only in GMC's w/wheelbase.............................hell.nobody would buy em or we'd be seeing thousands of post like mine. Thanks for the feedback though.

I have the RC 2.5 kit with the rear block and I have been considering adding Firestone airbags, as I have had them in the past and like the added capacity and safety. My question is will the standard kit work or would I need some sort of a spacer due to the 3/4" taller rear block. I think the answer is no but was curious if others have considered this. Thanks, Luke.

Just finished mine on my 2016 Z71.... Didn't even remove the wheels... Just dropped the lower shock mounts and the sway bar links. Used some pry bar action and was able to get everything installed. Had to cut the bolt underneath the CV joint tho. Was a little too long.... 2" RC kit.

Yeah the bolts are supposed to go from the top down. I was going to do the same with mine or buy a shorter bolt. Called rough country and they explained bolt down for safety reasons if the nut was to loosen your strut could slip.

 

Which is better installing a spacer under the strut or on top? Does it make a difference? I am sure under is easier to install but what about ride quality?

I think the top is supposed to be the best. But the kits I looked at installing said you have to cut the strut mount bolts. So I went with a lower. It rides fine but that's subjective.

If I went to a 3" lift in the front do I need to do the diff. drop?

What rear block do you have, the RC 3 inch? Did you get longer rear shocks or shock extenders?

I have 3 inch front and 3 inch blocks in the rear. Its good insurance to get the shock extenders. Get the readylift extenders. They have a sleeve in them to keep the bracket from being crushed when tightening it up. I didnt do a diff drop on the front. I'm sure the 1 inch spacers rc sells I could do just don't know if any grinding off the case would be needed. As is now she rides just like stock but looks a crsp ton better

I put a 2" block on top of the stock 1" block and I used the extenders

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper. 
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back. 
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
