Adding Aftermarket Sub/Amp

I have a 2 channel amp and I did hook up one channel to the Sound Ordinance power sub but I am a bit disappointed. I hear that if I hook up the other speaker or "bridge" the connection it should be better. So far it sounds like some body farting in the back seat... Crutchfield has been zero help to me. Told me I had to buy an audio controller when I didn't need it. My SO B-8PTD has both high and low level inputs.

It's all about the dollar for them... IMHO!

anyone know the ohms of the stock speakers, and if its possible to just replace the stock amp? i don't want to run power and all that junk, i'd just like the speakers to sound cleaner.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Are the stock non-bose 8" display speakers any good? would they benefit from an amp? or would it be necessary to do amp and speakers?

There are 2 tweeters on top of the dash, then one in each door.

On the 2014 Silverado Crew Cab non-Blose, front doors are 6x9's, rear doors are 6.5", dash speakers are 2.5" drivers.

just following up....special shout out to AW22 and T gleason for replying to my query. We tapped into the wiring for the existing BOSE sub and no clipping/feedback yet (yet since I only drove it from the shop to home, not nearly enough time or speed to determine if its an end result). We are assuming that the ANC programming/software accounts for the subwoofer and disregards the sub output. Basically we are hoping the engineers took the subwoofer into consideration when designing/implementing the ANC system. Then again these are the same people that cant get a drivers seat to sit firm so not much faith is warranted or deserved. I will report back if there is a change on the off chance someone else finds themselves in a similar situation. Now I need to start saving for my next upgrade (either a 4-5" lift or a tonneau cover and bed rug).

Any more feedback you can give? I just finished up my install and I've got a bit of noise while driving but none at idle. I hooked into both rear speakers using PAC LP7-2.

As I stated we tapped into the Bose sub for the signal. Do you have the speed volume control on? If so cancel it and see if that helps. The option is in settings. I know when that's on the mics are very sensitive. Maybe that will sorta turn off the mics? Worth a shot. I wouldn't be surprised if the ANC is causing the noise especially since its quiet in idle.

I will say that my back door speakers are weaker than I remember hearing them...most likely I just never paid attention.

Forgot to mention which power source I used for the amp's remote on....

If you look under the driver's side dash between the brake pedal and parking brake, you'll see the fuse/relay box (it's about 6" x 10" and has a smooth black plastic cover, just like on the GMT-900's). Pry the clasps on each side to remove. On my SLT there are three main banks, left to right, with the first being unoccupied (see attached pic). The slots within first bank are labeled 1-20, though only 11 actually have male connectors. I used my tester to determine the following: #'s 7 & 17 are constant 12v power [always on], #'s 10 & 11 are grounds, and #8 is the RAP [retained accessory power] ignition signal wire (again, see attached pic)

For newbies, RAP powers on with the key rotated to the first position and remains on until the ignition is turned completely off AND the driver's door is opened, just like the factory radio.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this.

To those who wired remote wire from amp to fuse, did you add a fuse tap or just twist wire directly to fuse? Kinda confused on how this was done.

So i solved my own problem. I used Motomedic's wiring scheme to wire my remote wire with the smallest female connector i could find. Works great. Finally finished my little system. Single Sundown SD2 10 and sundown SAE-600d. Sounds awesome.

Can someone point me to the pictures showing the Bose amp (behind the seat) and it's wiring connectors? I think it was labeled showing which wires were which. . I have looked everywhere and can't find it.

Thanks!

I'm not sure where the picture is, but the Bose amp wires are the only thick blue wires that are twisted together. They run along the passenger side.

Does anyone know if the bassworx dual 10" box for the 07-13 trucks for under our back seats in the crew cabs?

After a few weeks of trouble shooting I found the supplied power wire from Crutchfield was in need of a little tweaking. The fuse holder is nothing but a couple of wire connectors inside a waterproof housing and after measuring the power input to the sub from the wires and finding it NOT to be a constant 13v I carefully pinched them tighter with needle nose pliers and now all is good. No wonder they gave this crap to me with the purchase of the sub...

    • Did the KYBs keep it the same height in the front? I was concerned that pre-assembled assembly would raise it up an inch to standard non-z60 height.. I guess which it would make the rake 1 inch instead of 2 inches.
    • Thank you for keeping the train on the tracks and for a thoughtful engagement. I enjoyed the reflection on a previous stance to refine and improve your position. I like that inquisitive flexibility about you Atlas.    No the process isn't sterile. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles of piping, vessels, pumps. Chevron, the people I worked for, were keenly aware that there is a market for what is known as their "ISOCLEAN" line of lubricants. These are lubricants that are the same as those sold bulk that are further processed by filtration to a level your particular application demands. They will filter and package and provide lab documentation as required. Do not kid yourself. Every gallon of oil that goes into a Chevron Turbine, reciprocating compressor, generator is prefiltered and tested before being charged. Lest wise it was when I was there in the plants I worked in.    There are requirements set by manufactures for the cleanliness of the oils used in their equipment. OTR such as CUMMINS has standards shared with customers on this. Commercial interest selling to Ma and Pa do, but don't share that information. Not even upon request but internally, they do exist.    The GM study sited, (Graph from Machinery Lubrication in previous post) only shows "relative" importance.  I find that fascinating. By constructing the graph like this they admit there are dozens of factors in engine life and via scientific method determined the effect of 'relative cleanliness' on engine life not in miles but in 'FACTORS'. This allows a certain amount of reverse engineering does it not?   They even provided some touchstones. Beta 75 as a reference point. Wonderful stuff!!   Smaller blenders CAN and some DO take the time and effort to do better than a refinery or large bulk blender, like Warren Oil, in improving the "in the can" cleanliness. No I don't have a list but testing could generate that information.    Again, but one of several levers we can pull to improve engine life. The simplest is keeping a clean work station while doing your own oil changes.
    • Thank you. I'll give it a try
    • I just spent the last 45K miles doing samples every oil change over more than a full year to get the data for seasons and break-in to broke in.    I found the same thing to be true. Something was always teetering on done or had stepped off the cliff long before the OLM was DOA. In fact, I found about a thousand mile difference between summer and winter. That is during the winter half the OLM was STILL too long. Even the severe schedule was to long in the winter.   Now having done the work I can say I was NOT DISAPOINTED. I saw nothing I didn't already know. Nothing my father hadn't already demonstrated in his 2K OCI's pushing dated iron on dated oils and weak filters to mileages well beyond 300K.   Building on his work through use of Lab testing it wasn't hard to find the correlation between 'sight/feel/odor, the things dad relied on, and test results. Use of current viscosity stable chemistries & filters has pushed that marker for my motors out to 3K summer, 4K winter.    So the early lies were 3K on conventional oil and the lie upon the lie was 7K+. turns out to be off by a factor of two.    So... it is true that modern chemistry has doubled the useful oil life. But the base milage that came from was off by double. It's how good lies work. Partly true, sometimes mostly true so that your meter isn't set off. It also means that non-shear-stable shelf oils are only now as good as the old oils were in their best case scenario.    So the question now is how do we improve on that? Thus the question into cleanliness among the other items listed in the post quoted below.    If this bores you, feel free not to participate.
    • Is it though?  Like LTZ, not a high take rate.  Current Sierra has AT4, Denali and Elevation as its main bread winners.  Each trim accounting for 25-35% of sales for Sierra.  SLT makes up about 10-15% at best.        Like others have predicted here for GMC, it will be:   - Pro (equal to WT Chevy)   - Elevation (replaces SLE and SLT)   - AT4 (and X)   - Denali (and Ultimate).
