Mylink Radio Custom Theme Design

Recommended Posts

I have a '14 1500 Z71 CC Silverado with the 8" Mylink Radio and was hoping to see what everyone else knows regarding the themes. From the factory you have the four basic theme files:

Contemporary

Mainstreet

Edge

Velocity

Does anyone else here know if there is a way to code your own theme file and upload it somehow?

I like different parts of these themes but it would be a nice feature if GM allowed owners to customize their theme to their liking (within boundaries set by GM of course). Whether it be reserved for those who are knowledgable with whatever language it's coded in, or if they developed a simple computer app that allowed you to customize their core template with your own taste.

What do you guys know/want?

Being able to make custom themes would be a sweet feature, right now mine is set on the velocity theme I believe but just seems like a shame to not have that great big screen display more info than it does today

Never new there was more than one how do you change them?

I think this is right, I'm just going off memory but i may be missing a step in the middle.

I agree, why not atleast have all the info from the DIC available in the radio unit. I'd rather leave some of that info just displaying rather than look at the analog clock or a radio station channel.

Gm is not quite as open source as they should to be.

You can still get some of the content, delphi has yet to add the 2014 code.

Even then we would have to rip the firmware off by either USART or JTAG to get the entire package.

I see you've been at it for awhile. Haha.

So the updates can just be pushed via the USB port? Then after we final get the files, then adjust the coding (which I'm still lost on what it actually is written in) then we have to simulate an update patch to push the new version and then for any updates they push out for the firmware we have to maintain our versions to stay up to date?

Lot of work there

Apparently a lot of GM customers are getting frustrated with MyLink. All of the different vehicles have different firmware/hardware/etc.

I don't believe anything has been uncovered yet but I think that it's going to start going down the road of your typical smartphone root/custom flash & jail breaks. I'm just going to sit back and see where it goes.

FYI: the guys over on the camaro forums have a pretty in depth thread I just found : http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=315327&page=5

Some updates can be flashed by USB. The gauge cluster and ancillary modules have to be flashed with a tech tool. Though there will be alternatives. The only issue I for see is not affecting safety systems like abs or airbags but I imagine they were designed with standalone circuits and only communicate status.

Ok.... So this is my first time on this site so this topic may have already been beat to death but I can't find it in the search. I have a 2014 Sierra SLT with the navigation system. I was sent a message by GM for a udate on the maps if I want. So far I elected not to get one. Now as I previewed the screen one thing I have noticed is that when I drive through a citey (i.e. St. Louis) the buildings do not show. I thought that the buildings were supposed to as teast show in block form?? The 2015 graphics appear different than 2014 so if I get an update with my graphics update? I know that I can not get the talk/text so that is a done issue. I'm more interested in why the buildings don't show and graphics. If all I get with the upgrade is more gas stations and a few roads I'll probably just wait a while longer. Thanks.

All you get with the navigation update is the data for new roads and points of interest. It is not a feature or software update for operational issues, just data. I don't know about the buildings although I seem to remember something about different views and 3D?
