They do give you the option - it's called All Terrain. But then everyone complains about the paint chipping as seen here http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/157011-all-terrain-painted-bumper-chips/

GM can't win regardless of what they do

Well thats if you want a GMC. I would go for the Chevy.

I have to get my truck repainted due to some scatches in the paint from stuff hurled at from a tornado.
I've already planned on having then paint the chrome on the grill and the headlight trim.
For durability though, I think I'm going to get the bumpers powder coated, shouldn't be too hard to match a gloss black with powder.

So, a local body shop told me they couldn't paint the chrome grille and headlight surrounds because the paint doesn't adhere well to the chrome, and they can't strip the chrome off without damaging the plastic. Is this true, or should I seek a second opinion from a different shop?

Take it to someone who know's what they are doing. I've owned trucks and hand chrome painted, if it is prepped right it will last. The guy i'm taking my truck to has been doing trucks for years and he guarantees no chips.

Most of the time people say it's going to chip because they haven't done it before or have little or no experience painting/prepping chrome to be painted.

Here is a truck I daily drove back in 2005, I had the chrome bar and all plastics, sanded, prepped and painted. No chipping or flaking what so ever.

Good to know, thanks. I've researched a couple other shops in the area, and I plan to visit them next week and get some ideas.

I liked how this high country was done. I'm looking into getting my flaps and bumpers done. Hopefully I can find someone to paint over the chrome.

I love the painted bumpers, but the flaps are just too damn much. lol

I'm having my grille, headlight trim and tailgate handle painted next week sometime, similar to this truck. I'll leave the bumpers chrome and the front lower bumper insert chrome like it is now on the LTZ.

go on ebay and search fort them every day. I did that and finally found some for my truck. there is a guy that sells them and his price it seems as if it is determined on how many clips he breaks when taking the caps off of the truck. I paid 265 but mine had no scratches and the mirror caps had all the clips on the mirror caps. you will save money by far going this route then purchasing them from the dealer...

Yeah he has some up with broken clips and scratches. It's for a crew cab and he wants $250. Caps for my nnbs were $70 new from the dealer and I got a pair of handles for $100 so I'm not paying that for damaged ones.

The seller on eBay that is really popular with the color match handles and mirror cabs is Tonygreen
