I have a 2014 6.2 with 3.73 gear 4x4 Crew 6ft bed. I pull a 3500lb trailer between 70mph and 75mph and get 12-14 mpg average. Probably closer to 11-12 when going 75. A bit higher when going 65-70mph.

2015 Chevy 2500 HD Crew Cab 4 x 4 My experience;
Here is my experience with towing my 33ft Travel Trailer (9500 lbs) with this truck. It tows easily at whatever speed you set the cruise at, what I never thought thru was where the torque band is on this truck. It will select whatever gear is needed to pull the load, this sometimes results in driving in third gear up hills at 4200 rpm. It rarely would shift up into 6th gear and would not stay there long even on the slightest uphill. This all resulted in an average MPG of 6.9 on my 1300 mile trip to Florida. Encountering a strong headwind coming home it would still pull no problem at 66 mph but it got 5.8 mpg into the wind. Around town it gets 11.6 MPG driving very easy. disappointed by MPG.
What was your MPG towing your trailer?

Towing a 25' 8700lb (when loaded) 5th wheel with a 2012 2500HD Sierra extend cab long bed SLE 6.0L. On average 7mpg while towing.

It would be nice if GM made the 6.0L run on 4 cylinders when it doesn't need all of it ponies. My gets about 10-11 around town. So not much has changed in the last couple of years as far as fuel mileage. Of course that is because the FEDs have not man dated any improvements in HD trucks yet. It is coming tho. I just read an article where a semi has been developed that will get 12mpg pulling a full load. I do not need more horse power just better mpg. My Ford Fusion averages 35.8 mpg with a 1.7L turbo. and it has plenty of get up and go. So maybe a smaller turbo engine would be better in the HDs.

1996 4x4

5 liter

3.73

oil cooler, functioning factory bypass with billet filter (I would not have bothered without that factory relief working).

Towing a 1987 subaru, car dolly. Advice to keep it out of overdrive, had to stay at car dolly limit of 55 anyway.

36 miles highway, 16 miles back road. 22mpg.

it is nearly the same loaded or empty. I bought it in january, have not seen spring weather yet.

a recent 60F day has it in the middle 20s mpg. Lugging like a tractor trailer @ 2100 = 72mph.

I also found the tranny shaft is 84mm. Not exactly small is it. Not sure who or what makes a wimp of those..but they must be mentally challenged with gear fluid of the wrong kind. I'd tug at a kenworth with it...factory gm fluid.

2014 Double Cab 4.3 EcoTec 3.23 gears all stock. I get 13.2 while towing my 23' bay boat at 60-65mph and 10.8 to 11.2 if I go faster. I wish it had 3.73 to 4.11 gears to keep the RPM's up. I have to lock it in 4th gear to stop the gear hunting on hilly ground. I still wish I had the 5.3 at times.

Typically average 11 mpg pulling various campers with 2010 GMC 2500 6.6 diesel. Winter economy is worse. Summer better. Last few trips over 12 mpg. My dually does about 1.5 mpg worse.

Those Grey Wolf's are easy pulling trailers. Move a lot of them.

    • We have now!  2027 GMC Sierra  Early look, but I'm a GMC guy and so far I think I like the looks of the Chevy better.
    • HD at the moment, are kinda their own deal.  How LTZ sells on those vs on 1500, there is a difference.   They are merging most of the mid trims on 1500.  LT, RST and LTZ are replaced by one trim, Silverado.  LT and RST are a BIG portion of sales.    Bad naming choice aside, the new Silverado trim will offer the spread of options that those three trims offered.  So expect to see things like the tech package for example, and memory seats.  And LT Trail Boss will now just be "Trail Boss" (formerly LT Trail Boss) but will offer content spread like the new Silverado trim will.  The press photos showed the Trail Boss (formerly LT Trail Boss) has access to Super Cruise now, which on the current truck was High Country only.       Here is the Trail Boss interior.  Memory seats and Super Cruise are present.  All things the LT Trail Boss it replaces, and the RST it was based on didn't get on the current gen.  You had to go to LTZ or ZR2 for memory seats, and High Country for Super Cruise.
    • I installed a Hellwig rear sway bar on my 21 Sierra SLT, it made a huge difference on how the truck handles, no body roll, the trucks much more planted now. Not sure of the suspension differences between the 21 and 26,  if its body roll your having a sway bar will solve it.
    • So a follow up and my fix. I found in online searches the live data to look at on a scan tool to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor was working.  It showed an spec number towards the lower end of the rang, but in spec.  Then while it was running opened the gas cap and the pressure should change.  It didn't change even a tiny bit.  The data for the purge valve said it was open...never changed. So then I measured the voltages on the plug for the fuel pressure sensor and they matched what it should be.  So local car quest parts had the sensor in stock...it was a bit of a pain to remove and an even bigger one to get it to actually go back in.  It helped to unbolt the driveshaft and bungie cord away from the gas tank to give a bit more room to work. So fuel tank pressure sensor in I cleared the code, and started it up.  I went to the scan tool's live data and... Eureka! The pressure number was different and fluctuated a bit.  So took it on a short drive and pressure number varied saw the purge valve go from closed to open and back to closed.  Drove it to and from work for roughly a week plugged in the scan tool no codes.  I took it in to get tested and passed.  In my state's infinite wisdom (oops meant greed), since I pushed the test with the maximum extensions I have to take it back in by Feb '27 to 'get it back up to date', then my next test won't be until Feb '29.
