scoobyd3w Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) You're entitled to your opinion.. but don't forget a big part of this forum is customizing/modifying owner's trucks exactly how they want them. If you have HIDs in anything but the Sierra SLT or Denali, permanently disabling DRL's is highly recommended. Using the knob to kill them often means a quick start up then switched off, which is bad for the HIDs. In my truck the Auto DRL's only come on when put into gear so how would that put a load on the hid when starting? I don't mean to offend anyone but just don't see the point in adding a feature that already comes with the vehicle? not starting a heated debate just asking questions.. I gotcha. I think it just comes down to convenience. A lot of the auto features on the truck aren't necessary and could easily be done manually but we still like them automatic. With DRL's, members just want the choice whether or not to have them auto on.
xtremespeed2102 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Bump. Curious to see if the schematic worked out.
xtremespeed2102 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 FYI I can program those out of the BCM. I bet it's not cheap and you'll need my ecu? Im curious to know what hardware and software you're using to program.
Spurshot Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I wonder how difficult it would be to disassemble the headlight switch and remove the spring feature that prevents leaving it in the OFF position?
xtremespeed2102 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I wonder how difficult it would be to disassemble the headlight switch and remove the spring feature that prevents leaving it in the OFF position? You lose the auto on feature because your essentially turning off the light system.
Spurshot Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I think my 99 1/2 GMT800 had a position for OFF. If so, it'd be interesting to see if they are interchangeable.

Well if your like me and the truck is parked in the garage all the time then it would be a benefit as I have HID's as it dark enough for it to trip the headlight sensor to make it think it is dark out. I just leave them on when it is parked in the garage, but when it sits out I turn them off.....when I remember to.
Rewillia Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 turning the headlamp knob to the far left will cancel all running lights (headlamps included) when desired. of course you likely knew that. there are times when I turn mine off but seldom, just too easy to drive as designed and live with it IMO. after all, its likely only you that will be aware of them being turned off or even disabled.
mafd2 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Anyone ever figure how to disable DRL's? Does a tech have to do it through BCM and will they do it? Thanks
GTPprix Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Anyone ever figure how to disable DRL's? Does a tech have to do it through BCM and will they do it? Thanks A tech can't do it but my company can through custom bcm programming.
flyin99 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) If G (wire) in the headlight plug runs the DRLs, couldn't you install a diode in that wire to render them off all the time..........or (cut the wire and tape it up, if you desire)....? Also, the wiring manual shows G to be the wire on both plugs (right/left).... Edited August 31, 2014 by flyin99
