Questions about upgrading to a 2014

i have a 2010 silverado lt, 5.3, 4x4, ext cab i bought new. i love the truck and have not had any issues it. the origninal plan was to keep it until the wheels fall off.

i stopped and looked at the 2014 trucks... some nice features that i miss on my 2010. i don't need them - but they would be nice to have (rear backup cam, cargo lights, 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 door instead of suicide door for extended cabs, stock trailer brake, better noise reduction, all new dash/features, etc).

so i'm debating trading in the 2010 on a new 2014 depending on the deal i can get. this seems to be the time to do it (truck month pricing). i've not read much on the k2 trucks yet so i've been reading through this forum the past couple days trying to catch up and see what quarks they have (stabiletrak turning back on at 35 mph). seems like the k2 is a nice upgrade compared to the nnbs and everyone has been happy that's done it.

i will go with the 5.3 again - have there been any oil consumption issues with this version of the 5.3? i currently have afm removed on my 2010 thanks to a tune from justin @ bb. gas mileage is not a concern - i plan(ned) to keep the truck a long time and didn't want to deal with any possible oil consumption issues down the road. any issues with this on the 2014 version? i'm assuming my existing efilive autocal tuner is locked to my 2010 vin and i won't be able to reuse it on a 2014.

anything else i should look at or think about to swing me one way or another? i'm looking at "upgrading" to a new truck and starting over with 0 miles again. same basic features that i have now (lt, 5.3, 4x4, dbl cab) - but being able to add some little things that would be nice to have (stuff i mentioned in the first paragraph). my 2010 is paid off, so i'm looking at the out-the-door remaining price of a new truck after my trade in... using that number as what it has cost me to drive the 2010 for the past 3+ years. seems like a good deal to upgrade... but since i don't have any real complaints on my 2010 i'm undecided at dropping $$$ just to get another new truck. at least i wouldn't have to worry about fixing the stupid intermittant wiper module or worry about buying new tires in the next year or so ;)

If you're looking for a reason to upgrade, don't do it. If you need a new truck because your current one isn't doing the job for you, then upgrade. The new 2014s/2015s are all nice looking trucks with nice bells and whistles, but it's the first year for change and the bugs (if any) have not been worked out...yet. Just my two cents and stuff I keep telling myself when I have the "I need to upgrade" bug.

Just make sure you get it up to 75-80 on the test drive to check for vibration. I def would buy again. Trucks don't even compare to the outgoing model IMO. I have yet to hear of anyone having consumption issues.

Is this a common issue I should read about?

I went from a 2012, that I had planned on keeping forever, to the 2014, because I got a smoking deal.
I'm glad I did, more power, better fuel economy, better (start over) on warranty.
The 2014 rides much nicer, is a lot quiter on the inside, the MyLink is great. It is a better looking truck IMO. The interior feels more comfortable.

Yes, I own 2 2014 and have one with the steering vibration.

I drove other 2014's as demo's, some have vibration some do not.

Where you really notice is on smooth roads at highway speed.

If you feel any vibration in the trucks you test drive pass on it drive another. Some drive very smooth.

Also I would suggest the 6.2, the extra power is nice to have and fun to drive.

I have one with the 6.2 and one with the 5.3. The new 5.3 will be similar in power to your old one.

The thing to do is drive one equipped the way you want it. I think you'll find the new 5.3 to be an improvement in most every area and that the new 5.3 is quite an improvement in power from the old 5.3. I was going to buy a 2013 last summer. Then the sales guy showed me the first 2014 they had on the lot. I waited and am glad I did. I bought a '14 LZT 4WD in November and I absolutely love this truck. I don't worry about the first year bugs. Mine went in for the "fire recall" but gave me no problem before I got the notice. They also replaced the sliding rear window regulator which was working fine. In my opinion these are the most luxurious pick up trucks I've ever been in, and I have four buddies with new F 150s. One of those is a Platinum and that guy is a bit envious of my Chevy's features, ride, quietness, and solid feel.

I haven't noticed any oil consumption. I thought the back up camera was just a nice feature but not so necessary. Twice I've backed out of really dark driveways with trees all around. I couldn't see squat out of the mirrors or the dark rear window, but the camera made it easy. The parking assist sensors let me park this long truck in my garage and get to exactly the right spot without ever kissing my workbench.

If you can get the right deal I don't think you'll regret buying a '14.

if you want a reason the biggest one I could think of is you getting rid of the extended cab and getting a crew. a crew is always a plus and if you still want the 6' bed you can still have it but with a four full doors. I don't agree with a previous statement that the 5.3 power will be about the same as your nnbs, the new 5.3 is much more powerful and has a lot more pep in it's step compared to the nnbs 5.3. honestly if you can get one with out financially killing yourself then I say get one. if it is going to strain your wallet too much then I would say it's not worth it. GL

oh and if you were really wanting to drive your current truck until the wheels fell off then you would not have driven the k2 truck. the moment you sat inside of the new truck you almost immediately contracted the new car fever.

I like the 2014 truck restyle and the new engines. It is really good for the economy for you to buy a new vehicle every 2 to 3 years plus the people that do not have the cash to do a deal on a new one will have a healthy choice of nice used vehicles to purchase at half off the sticker price. Win Win....... how quickly can you get your deal done? The sooner you can do this the better for all of us economically speaking. Note: It makes for a healthier economy if you overpay, so do not dwell on the numbers too much Just Do It................quickly

on my 2010 i had the dealer disable the autodoor locks....

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/117124-10-sierra-any-way-to-disable-the-auto-door-locks/?view=findpost&p=1041585

anyone had this done on a 2014 yet? i'm assuming it can still be done. that thread lists vehicals up to the 2011 model year... anyone have an updated service bullitin # that includes 2014?

also - is there any light or notification on the dash that shows if you are in 2 wheel drive / 4hi or 4lo (i know the knob itself has a light)?

on the nnbs the control knob was on the right side of the steering wheel and was hidden behind hte gear selector. the dash still had a light for it - but there was no bulb to light it. we had a mod that would fix this...

No way to disable the auto door locks and other than the initial DIC notification for 4X4 being engaged the only other notification is the knob.

I've asked my dealer to look into it and given them that bulletin number, but haven't heard back yet. Hopefully it won't be too long.
