PF 48 Oil Filter Issues

Recommended Posts

Found a puddle of oil under the truck this morning. I had left and returned because I forgot something and noticed the puddle of oil in the driveway. Upon crawling under the truck I see drips on the filter so I went to the oil change place. They said there was a recall on AC Delco filter PF 48 because they will not stay tight. I was down about a quart and a half. The filter supposedly was able to be spun off very easily. Anyone else heard of this?

I use a AcDelco PF-63 on my 2010 GMC Sierra with 5.3L. Longer filter, sometimes O'Reilly's keeps them in stock. They are hard to find sometimes. I bought a bunch from Rockauto.com.

I've never heard of the recall, they probably did not tighten the filter enough. I do everything myself. Hope all is ok with your truck. I'd try the AcDelco PF-63.

Never heard of a filter backing off without someone not tightening it to begin with.... Was this a dealer or a corner lube shop that you brought your own filter in to use?

It was a corner oil change place. They supplied the requested AC filter. Glad I caught it when I did because a new 6.2 can't be a inexpensive engine. I had a feeling it was a line of bull except that as soon as I pulled in the bay and said I had a puddle of oil under the truck the service guy interrupted me about them recalling PF8 filter because they don't stay tight..I don't know

I usually do my own maintenance and now that I have built a new garage it looks as though I will take back over the truck service.

They may not have removed the old seal if it was stuck and just spun on the new filter and it finally started to leak and loosen because it had two of them. (I did this once) I'm not sure how else a filter can loosen up on its own if its tightened up properly.

No recalls. PF48/PF63 you have to tighten pretty good or they will seep/leak I have noticed this. They may seem tight but are not quite.

They are blowing smoke up your ass with that excuse. They just didn't tighten it properly

I don't feel so bad about having not used an AC Delco filter since.... about the early 70's.

Daniel,

Will a PF63 work on a 2007 6.0 thank you in advance.

There is nothing wrong with Delco filters. The ones to avoid are the basic Fram filters. They have been garbage for several years. The nicest spin on oil filters I have used in my vintage Pontiacs are Baldwins. They flow nice, and have a thick shell. Other brands I have used and like include Hastings, WIX, and the WIX clones (NAPA GOLD, CARQUEST GOLD, etc).
