K&N filter replacement.

I bought the K&N slip in replacement today for my 2014 Silverado. One major notice was the depth in the stock filter compared to the K&N. The K&N filter is much smaller in depth. Have any of you purchased one and notice a difference in anything? Or did I waste my money? If so or in general, how do you like your cold air intakes?

Stock filter is thicker cotton style meant for lasting higher miles and meant for stopping more dirt for offroad.

Any replacement drop in ive purchased has always been less in depth.

After seeying the benefits from changing the whole intake tho i now go that route on all my vehicles.

Take the K&N and bandsaw the ends off, then unfold it. Hold it up to the sunlight. You can see thru it. Unfold the stock filter and compare the filtering area. I think you'll find there is about 4-5 times the area.

 

You can push a proverbial rock thru a K&N. I found fine dust inside my intakes over the years of running them. Never again. Good luck.

I have never had an issue with K&N. If you buy the MIT from airad (the tube). Their filter is like the K&N. I have ran a K&N on my supercharged Z (130k miles supercharged) with no issues.

About time I agree with something you've said. I've used K&N filters before and they are junk, they compromise filtration for supposed HP gains. If you want a good filter, see if AEM makes a filter for this truck, I recommend that brand.

I agree that the AEM is a better piece. However...it's still a K&N.

Back in 'the day', the Green Weenies were really popular with the off-road cars and bikes. They were low restriction. But they didn't filter for squat.

On ny mobile, so can't see what truck you are running, but the Z71's already have a high capacity air cleaner.

If you want a better filter you never have to clean get a Donaldson powercore. Volant offers them with some of their cai. Also get the pre wrap.

All cars and trucks come with cold air now, if you want the noise change the tube.

While they the stock designs are setup to pull from a insulated area, they give up power due to small opening and from having to comply with NVH requirements. The larger opening on the aftermarket CAI systems will always make more power of the stock ones and not sacrifice the air pick up area.

 

I have ran K&N filters on my vehicles for well over 500k miles, my dad has a K&N drop in filter in his 1996 Yukon with over 500k miles on the clock on the stock motor, so the posts about the "inferior filtration" mean nothing otherwise we would be seeing vehicles on the side of the road everywhere. Any dust that does make it thru the filter will be consumed during the combustion process, plain and simple.

"consumed", not so much. "Make it through without any detrimental affects", most likely.
