2014 Sierra - Lazy Park?

There've been a couple occasions now where I put my truck in park, turn off the engine and let my foot off the brake to get out only to have the truck start rolling away. I start the truck, put it in drive, then reverse, then park and that mostly put it back in park again. It's been a couple/few weeks since the last incident but today before it would go in park I had to drive it around and make another attempt before it would work properly. I finished my errand, went home, and Park worked fine at home.

Anyone else? Any input before I take it to the dealer?

I always put the parking brake on so it doesn't roll, even on a slight incline. Rolling like that puts strain on the drivetrain. The only time I really don't is in a parking lot where it's usually level. Before I had the transfer case recall I put it on everywhere.

Best advice, always engage the parking/e-brake no matter manual or auto tranny.

Especially when your truck is a 4x4.

Regardless, take it to the dealer to check it out.

Report it and have the dealership inspect it immediately. Make sure it is on record in case there are additional problems.

Putting the vehicle in PARK should work first time, every time, 100% of the time - no exceptions. Take it in.

Unless you are one of the few affected transfer case recall customers the only other thing that could cause issues would be inside of the transmission with the parking pawl not engaging fully.

"only to have the truck start rolling away"

...if you don't mind me asking, exactly how far did it roll on you? I just ask as I've been in plenty of different vehicles that exhibited a little bit of "slop" if on an incline and placed in park. Usually just the pawl fully engaging and not that out of the ordinary. Wondering if this is the sensation you experienced or if you had a far more horrific encounter.

are ou talking about slop in the gears causing it to roll 1-3 inches? thats normal with all vehicles.

i always use the e brake but there is a recall notice for t-case shift to neutral which could be your issue.just dont know if its shifts to neutral while in park or while in motion.

No, I'm talking about rolling feet until I stop it. It's as if there was no engagement of the parking pawl at all. Is the PRNDL system on this truck fly by wire or still using a cable?

There was a recall to deal with the 4x4 doing this. Have you had all of the recall work done?

There is a huge recall man, get yours fixed up, the dealer should be able to fix this by updating your truck software.

It's in the shop now. The transfer case recall had already been addressed. They were unable to reproduce but did make note of the service bulletin and will be addressing the issue that way.

Should get it back today or tomorrow. In the meantime I've been downgraded to some Buick crossover vehicle with too many buttons.
