Was, the best country in the world. Back when people worked hard and assumed responsibility for themselves and made decisions for the common wealth. Instead of the self righteous bastards consumed with greed, gluttony and a general lackadaisical attitude.

 

Its damn depressing to work so hard and see so many watch with their hands out. If I could expect everyone who was capable to put forth as much effort this would hands down be the best country in the world.

 

Not to mention the difficulty in building capital gains considering the judgemental outlook on personal status, social associations, twitter followers or Facebook likes.

 

Being a young entrepreneur I completely see the OP's concern, we have a long journey to enlightenment america.

There is no place I want to be more than here. The young always have huge challenges. Each and every generation faced these. These times have their own challenges. In my life I lived on military bases in the north and watched B52s scramble during the Cuban missile crisis and lived on bases in the far East during the Vietnam War and watched the injured return. All this time, I lived with the threats of the Cold War. My schools would teach duck and cover for nuclear attack. Nuclear bomb shelters were all over. When I reached the age of 18, I was required to register for the draft. The war ended before I was drafted. The years that followed especially during Jimmy Carter's presidency were strangled by runaway inflation. Your paycheck just didn't buy what you'd expect. Later, Reagan plays chicken with the US SR, building our weapons arsenal to its peak. There was a brief period of euphoria followed by Desert Storm and the continuation of that war in Afghanistan. So, I have live most of my life while either the threat of total nuclear destruction of the earth or a war was ongoing. The point is that this generation of young people are facing similar challenges other generations faced. But it's still a great time to live and things are good in this country. Better than much of the past. Embrace it.

I've been busting ass since I was 12, I'm 59. The seventies was worse than now. I'm retiring in about a wk and being in business for myself . The next generation is paying for me to leave. It's not that the business is so successful , it's land that it sits on. Live on less buy real estate, I have two rent houses mines paid for. I did all that paying my self adverage pay.

Back in the early 90's I had 4 kids, a single income, I hated my job, I couldn't make enough to support my family. If I ever took my wife and kids out to dinner, it was McDonald's, and it was once a month, and it was a BIG DEAL! When we went on summer vacation, our budget for 3 days was $300.

 

But.....

 

I stuck with my job for 35 years, worked hard, raised 4 of the finest boys, all college graduates (paid by themselves), 4 wonderful daughter-in-laws, and 5 grandkids. I retired with a lot of money because I never gave up.

 

Yes, there is a hope for the future for anyone who is willing to work hard, do more than is expected of you, and trust in the Lord to help you along the way. He is always there for you. Not preachin', just sayin'.

Get yourself out of debt. It may be painful for a while. Once you have done it though, you will be amazed at the options available to you.

It occurred to me, I am looking at a younger generation now as well.

 

I turned 18 in january of 1991. Signed up thinking draft was inevitable. Gulf War 1.

became a crew chief...got a medal. etc etc.

About 7 years went by. This country will never be that sillyass busy clown stampeded ever again.

 

23 years later, I am just getting to the veterans administration.

I have an ailment in every subject known to human flesh..and just getting to the reality.

 

Some things, old school I have learned to re-educate myself on.

 

put the caveman away...with education.

Never give up on credit achievements. Go for that 500 dollar card, play the game.

The other one..no matter how bad it gets, the gov't will just get bigger to conquer problems ..this does not mean size necessarily. It can even resort to other nations.

 

no country fails miserably...especially economically. Why? Because no country wants to fail miserably. So they all gethered on a place called earth, worked things out.

Every person goes through this same feeling about the future. It seems worse than it is because young people don't (can't) have the experience of living through hard times and seeing that eventually it all works out. Chances of being a billionaire are slim, but chances of living penniless in the gutter are slim also if you have at least average intelligence and are willing to spend most of your time actually working.

 

Do you own a car? Do you have a roof over your head? Can you obtain edible food every day? Clean water to drink? Then you are ahead of millions on this planet.

 

If you get to feeling depressed about "getting through", sit down and talk with someone who lived through the WWII years, or (if you can find any still alive) the Great Depression era. THOSE people had it tough, tougher than any of us likely ever will. If my father came back to life today, he'd go ape if I told him we pay more for our trucks than he did for the house I grew up in. Hell, I pay more for gas every week than what he used to pay for food and housing for a family of four. I make about as much in a day as he brought home in two weeks. It's all relative.

 

I have failed a lot, but I'm still here. I'll be 60 this summer and I know that my big earning years are gone, but I also know that somehow, I will get through whatever life has for me until life is done with me, then I'll be gone.

 

Until then, you just look forward, and keep moving forward.

 

And don't forget, our parents had to walk to school, 25 miles each way, in the snow, with no shoes, uphill both ways, in the rain, at night........

IMO, the stupid so badly outnumber the ones with common sense, there is no turning back until its time to rebuild.

 

Will it happen in our lifetime? I don't know, but I stopped worrying about it last year. Started to stop caring when I found out the timer on my physical mobility could be pretty short. Life is too short to worry too much.

 

I just make sure my crap is in order, and my family is provided for, and have efun while I can
