for those of you who have done this, does the brighter DRL have a slightly different color? Or does it just become brighter? I don't really want to have one brighter than the other but I am still on the fence of doing this. If both LED strips are still the same color then I will be more likely to do this.

I would make this decision myself based off of pics posted but in my experience with taking pics of my lights i know I can turn on all my off road lights and headlights and everything will look the same in a picture but actually seeing everything in person will result in seeing differences in color

The mod just makes the bottom row brighter and does not change the color at all. I've had it done for about a week and I'm completely satisfied. I do wish someone could figure out how to get the top row brighter. Even with the top row being dimmer than the bottom, the lights look pretty slick at night. Nice white color, with no hint of blue at all. Edited by AceTango

So I probed the wires for about an hour, at the end, I failed miserably :(

The bottom rail is "one" rail, the brightness at dimmer state is just ~5v, doing the mod pushes the same pin to full ~11.8v which results the full brightness on the rail.

It is possible to get the top row working, it has to be done internally though. I have probed all wires going to the headlight, all are maxed out at close to 12v after the diode mod under the dash.

I did this mod for now, but I think there should be slight light output increase if you still use halogen bulbs ;) I really wish the top can be as bright as the bottom too without cutting them open

They will only activate when the truck is in gear.

This may be a silly question but have you checked that they do not work when in gear? Or just when the truck is running you walk up front and don't see them on? If they are not activating when in gear then you'd have to get the wiring checked out.

Well I know that Phil at fastheadlights has something to make both strips come on both day and night at 100% brightness. I just got excited when I saw this thread cause it could've saved me the money from getting him to do the mod when he has my headlights to do a new projector retrofit.

I think Phil has been able to create a custom circuit board that allows this to happen.

Mike, where do I find the kit the Phil has to do this?

Thanks

He doesn't have it up on his website yet. I only mentioned it because I saw a pair of headlights he worked on and he did the mod on them and I asked him about it. Not sure when it'll go on the site, would have to talk to him about gettin the board or whatever is needed to make it work.

Over and Jarod from Gen5 just completed a harness for my 2016 Sierra to keep the C shape LED DRL's on full power. They are available for the SLE with the HID's and the SLT's as well. They are plug and play, no adding diodes are altering the factory wiring harness or BCM. They are $50 for the set.

Update: Harness works on SLT LED headlights. Waiting on the SLE mid.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
