Transmission fix finally for 14-15 sierra silverado! WOOOOT!

Well that escalated quickly! LOL, but about time this forum called me out. I really posted as I am a gm loyalist and know that these trucks have a lot better potential than a profit margin for gm. Simply I am not going to throw my friend under the bus for doing something he may get in trouble for doing for me. All I know is what he told me, and that my trucks transmission is night and day better, and I hope that everyone hangs on to their trucks a bit longer knowing that gm is actively working on something, but is being tight lipped about it until it is released. It is not like any major company is going to admit that something wasn't as good as it could be after some revisions. I have had a lot more cars and trucks over the years than the average joe, and know that these trucks are great trucks, but the epa, emissions standards etc can retard a lot of the good qualities of what gm engineers can do. I was huge into subaru turbo cars for many years, do you think subaru really wanted to release these cars as limited as they were just so they could pass emissions? Hell no! But they had to, to appease the government more than the masses. With a grand in upgrades and a tune the subaru turbo cars are rockets! Although they may not pass government emissions, they became the cars they should be out of the box. Same with these trucks, gm engineers have the duty to make the best vehicle, but also under strict government standards to follow rules and guidelines. Could they put these trucks out with optimal tunes and big numbers, sure, but would they meet emissions standards, not a chance. So its a catch 22, with also the added stress of being high mpg vehicles. Does anyone on here buy a nice loaded truck for mpg, hell no. But is it expected in this day and age, hell yes. To me the revision on my truck seems to be wonderful, no mpg loss, but the truck just running more optimally.

 

One user posted something along the lines of, "more hp takes more gas", I don't exactly agree as to me an optimal tune on any vehicle, should provide the most efficient results, and really it all comes down to how anyone drives the said vehicle. Could I get a consistent 20+mpg out of my truck if I drive like a grandma? Sure! But did I buy my truck for mpg? No. I bought it to have fun, haul ass, look good, make noise, and still have a good daily I could enjoy on the weekends.

 

I am not trying to stir the pot, I am defending my friend who gave me this as a friend, not for any other reason.

 

I hope and pray gm puts this out and available sooner than later, so I don't look like a jerk. But at the same time it is what it is. Love it or hate it, I posted too prematurely as a gm loyalist hoping everyone wouldn't trade off their trucks, but rather have some faith in what the potential of this wonderful advanced truck can be.

 

I am going to leave this as my last post for a while. I just hope you can all understand that gm is forced to follow guidelines, even if it kills them. If a blackbear tune, or something similar is something worth you spending the money on, go for it! Blackbear is a great company and simply opens these vehicles up to closer to their true potential. All I am saying is the revised programming feels like a tune to me, and something blackbear or other companies can probably improve on further, as they don't have to worry about the dreaded epa, much like the water based paint that is crap compared to how the other paint jobs used to be of the past in regards to reliablity.

 

Again, just wanting to give faith to the community that gm has taken note and is working on something better. As a gm loyalist and a gearhead, I have faith gm will not leave us hanging. Ring their doorbell with complaints, and it will push it further.

 

I feel this is a great forum, and internet forums allow everyone to have opinions, regardless of how knee jerk they may be. I wouldn't leave this thread out there if I really thought gm wouldn't be working on something, as I would simply look like a doofus. I have faith, and I hope others here do as well.

 

In the end, tune it, build it, do what you need to be happy with your truck. But I hope gm takes note to the blow up of this thread as something they need to do sooner than later. People love their trucks, they are not cheap, they are not perfect, but they are still loved. GM should pay us back with continued research and development with even something that is not new on the lot, as this is what makes a loyalist.

Is your truck lifted? I know my shifting was all jacked up until I got an intune. It's mostly better now. But still needs some tlc from a diablew tune but if yours is lifted and they still did a fix for the shifting then I need to make an appt. Also did they get your heated seats working? Mine take 20 to 25 minutes to fully heat up.

So had my truck at the dealer to replace the heated seat for the second time (first time only did passenger seat) and my service advisor who is also a friend of mine who owns a 14 sierra said I would love my truck when I pick it up.

 

Turns out gm came out with a transmission programming update for my 14 GMC Sierra. My truck has the 5.3l and 3.42 gears.

 

I cannot believe how much better my truck feels! The transmission shift points are soooo much more improved than before, shifts are quicker, but not necessarily more firm, although maybe slightly. But again the truck feels amazing, like a totally different vehicle. So much more responsive, give it a little gas and it snaps right into the gear I would choose if I had a manual, and feels so much more intuitive overall. After driving around all afternoon and this evening I have completely fallen back in love with my truck. I will admit that this to me was the biggest downfall with the truck after owning it for 6500 miles, but I love love love the responsiveness in my truck now!

 

I have done tunes on previous vehicles over the years with programmers etc, and even open source tuning but can say I have never experienced a difference in a vehicle like I did with this.

 

So to make a long story short, call your dealer and see if they have the update available, you will not regret it!!!

 

Hopefully this helps out a lot of people, and I am very interested to hear what other people think. Please comment on if you have this done what you think of the difference!

 

 

Edit, this is a beta version that is not global on gm yet. I will update when my advisor states this is ready globally.

I swear to God this is BS. GM replaced my 8 speed tranny with 3200 miles on it because it was clunking every time you left a stop light. Now 650 miles on this replacement tranny and the symptoms are slowly starting to return. On monday I'll decided if I'm gonna trade this POS in for a 5.3 6 speed.

Did you see my earlier post where GM just this past week released a TSB to reprogram the 8 speeds?

I drive A LOT. I am in my truck for hours per day for work. Each and every day while driving I get mad at the way it shifts. I continually say "f-it, it's warrantied" but I don't want to wait until then. The trans is all over the place and I feel I am going to destroy it. I accelerate to cater to the damn thing. Looking forward to a fix! My truck is a 15.

I for one appreciate Eric's posts. Very credible, must be some paranoid peeps to get so wound up as to call Eric a liar. Nothing anonymous either...he gave his full name, location and has been on the forum for a while.

 

I'm skeptical that GM finally has a fix. Testing for 2 years and production approaching another 2 years-software fix or is there a design flaw? Similar issues with the 8 speeds and Fords? Got to wonder what's really going on....

I'll check it out Monday at the dealer. The dealer pretty much is done with my problem. They have yet to get another 62 8 speed and are clueless with any more researching. I was told to take it back to the purchasing dealer by this service manager. Obviously he feels his service department has done all they can do to try and remedy this clunking.

Last they were told was to wait for a fix. So maybe this may be it.

 

It's a shame because this 6.2 is a stout engine stock even with their crappy stock gears. Just the tranny is garbage.

Let's be polite and say it's ahead of its time.

Because I want to go backwards to the 6 speed.

Screw mph.

Tree huggers can buy hybrids so I can have more gas.

I would have asked that service writer to provide that little tidbit (take it back to the purchasing dealer) in writing then we would be doing that dance in a court room.

The dealer can and will refuse service. They are not required or forced to do work, heck even the selling dealer can eventually "divorce" you as a customer and wash their hands if they want to. GM cant even force them do a thing as GM doesn't own the dealers. Sure some heat from GM can make the dealer change their mind, but ultimately it is up to the dealer to do the work.

 

This is why it is paramount to maintain a great relationship with your dealer. I am on first name basis with my service writers and know the parts manager pretty well. Every once in awhile when I take the truck in I bring a box of donuts to leave with them, goes along way I tell you. I do the same thing with the mechanics at the bicycle shop I race for as well. Funny how when I bring them beer my bike magically gets worked on right then instead of me having to wait for it, that is if I need that quick.

No way you should have to buy beer and donuts to get your truck work correctly. But I do agree something like this isn't a dealer problem but they should do what ever they can to keep your business. If nothing can be done then nothing can be done, lemon law the truck

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I have to be all chummy with my service people , just so they can find it out if their kind hearts to help me. Smh.

I have been experiencing these clunky shifts randomly and i cannot figure out a pattern to it, sometimes it happens with the slightest throttle increase or others it does while you are actually accelerating or coasting. I seriously hope this fix is close to becoming released to all dealers.

It makes me dread every dollar I have spent on this truck when it happens while I am driving. I still have my 07 silverado with the 4 speed 5.3l (230,000km) and I like the way it shifts way better than my 2014 6 speed 5.3l.

With this many people on here unsatisfied with this transmission GM really must fix this to restore my faith in GM vehicles, I have never owned anything but a GM vehicle but it really bothers me when the transmission in my new truck acts like this.
