Transmission fix finally for 14-15 sierra silverado! WOOOOT!

This post has over 91,000 views...you would think that most of the people who looked at it have the same crappy feeling driving their new $40-50,000 truck that we have all experienced and were hoping there was a glimmer of hope and a true fix. Which sadly, there is NOT!

Why wouldn't GM do SOMETHING for all of us who have complained to the dealers about the same driveability issues over and over...instead of getting told "Sorry, that's just the way they drive. Its normal"

Its seems absurd that they don't release some sort of programming update....i keep just going back in forth in my head to just tune it and try to get back to enjoying driving again....But it really shouldn't have to be that way...i shouldn't have to pay to correct GM's mistake

Dosen't anyone at GM hear the voices of their customers?!? WTF GM?

Well I will confess, a few months back I too have had my problems with the 6 speed. I had shift flares and GM paid for the new TCM and even a new 3,5,R clutch pack. But that only took care of the shift flares. I still felt that the transmission was confused at some points and shifts were untimely. I simply didn’t enjoy driving my truck as I did my 05 Avalanche.

Fast forward to the last week and WOW; all I can say is my truck now shifts like I believe it was meant to.

I was hesitant of spending the money and of any problems with warranty issues that might crop up, but the "drivability" of my 14 Crew cab was not satisfying to me. Then came my custom tune from Blackbear.

Now I just want to say that I am older than most on this forum and I don’t run my truck hard. I don’t have a garage queen but I keep her clean and shining… My data logging process for Blackbear is the most I have ever hammered on my truck and that is not the way that I drive normally. But the satisfaction I have received “so far” from the transmission tune makes me feel I have spent my money wisely. I do wish I could make minor adjustments with my Scal but all in all I am very happy with my trucks transmission performance now with the Blackbear tune.

So had my truck at the dealer to replace the heated seat for the second time (first time only did passenger seat) and my service advisor who is also a friend of mine who owns a 14 sierra said I would love my truck when I pick it up.

Turns out gm came out with a transmission programming update for my 14 GMC Sierra. My truck has the 5.3l and 3.42 gears.

I cannot believe how much better my truck feels! The transmission shift points are soooo much more improved than before, shifts are quicker, but not necessarily more firm, although maybe slightly. But again the truck feels amazing, like a totally different vehicle. So much more responsive, give it a little gas and it snaps right into the gear I would choose if I had a manual, and feels so much more intuitive overall. After driving around all afternoon and this evening I have completely fallen back in love with my truck. I will admit that this to me was the biggest downfall with the truck after owning it for 6500 miles, but I love love love the responsiveness in my truck now!

I have done tunes on previous vehicles over the years with programmers etc, and even open source tuning but can say I have never experienced a difference in a vehicle like I did with this.

So to make a long story short, call your dealer and see if they have the update available, you will not regret it!!!

Hopefully this helps out a lot of people, and I am very interested to hear what other people think. Please comment on if you have this done what you think of the difference!

Edit, this is a beta version that is not global on gm yet. I will update when my advisor states this is ready globally.

I had mine done today and it now acts as the OP described in his first post. Its a totally different truck! If you guys already figured this out disregard, this thread was just too many pages to read through.

I wish I could but I cant throw away the warranty on my truck, we all know 9 out of 10 dealers will make a stink about a tune for a majority of any engine issues or drivetrain issues for that matter if it should pop up regardless of if it is the cause of it. Until Black bear says we will pick up the tab if your dealer leaves you hanging, I cant make any move to a aftermarket tune until my warranty is completely done.

ANYWAYS; glad you had a positive experience with the BB tune. The TCM tune definietly wakes up the truck and makes it a joy to drive.

I currently have a 2014 Duramax and was considering getting another half ton. After test driving the 5.3 and the 6.2 I am not impressed with the get up and go. Maybe it is the transmission shift probs you guys speak of. The 5.3 makes alot of noise but goes nowhere and it had the 3.42. The 6.2 had the 8 speed and 3.23 and it also felt weak and shift pattern is crap. My little bro's new Ecoboost would likely roast anything the General has, and if not beat it, it surely doesn't shift like a newcomer to a manual shift. Sticking with the Duramax(it is not even tuned).

In testing, the 6.2 was 0.1 seconds slower to 60 and 0.1 faster in the 1/4 mile. The ecoboost isn't "roasting anything the General has"

Ray I am not trying to debate. Just my experience. The Ford pulls strong and the others felt sluggish. Hopefully the 6.2 I drove had 87 in it.

I got rid of an ecoboost and bought my GMC. The F150 was only quicker off the line. virtually no difference above 30mph. Other than I get better gas mileage in the GMC. I do miss that "off the line" torque, tho.

The issue with the GM trucks is that partial throttle performance is terrible. I can only speak on my setup for the 5.3 w/3.42's, but stock it was such a slouch. Poor shifting habits, always in the wrong gear, tons of torque management. It made it to where if you were not in wide open throttle it was lazy and slow. Owners of the 6.2 have had the same complaints.

I am a die hard GM loyalist which is why it hurts me to say that. I like the new GMCs alot and am interested. My complaint is the drivability issues that are software problems. I am not tuning the warranty out of a truck that they already cut 40,000 miles of warranty out of, and supposedly giving us the difference back in savings...BS GM.
