Magnetic Ride Control

I know it defeats the purpose of buying a Denali, but you said they turned off the magnetic ride, would it be possible to have them remove the shocks and put in a normal set of aftermarket ones. I know that most wouldn't want to do that, but it would be nice if people had options.

No such luck with that they said the only way they could turn it off is to have the computer hooked up to the truck and if they leave it off it would throw codes.

Huh. Maybe they could program it out. I mean they just need to remove the code.

Can you elaborate on moving the control arms down? Buy this, you mean the sensor arms, correct? Who is doing the work for you?

If you are referring to just the sensor arms, I am under the impression it's going to take more than that with Mag Ride to keep it from becoming angry. After all, you're planning on stretching out that shock 2.5"

Not true at all, just because you increase the height 2 1/2in. does not mean the shocks are extended that far, more like 1in. total.

 

Having said that from what we know and have learned 1in. is enough to make these shocks throw fits.

If you're the type of guy to leave trucks mostly stock w/ no plan to lift it, don't plan on keeping the truck 10 years or over 70-80,000 miles, & don't do any serious off-roading, then I van't think of a better stock suspension for you. I wouldn't want to own the truck long term & have to replace any of the shocks though, as others mentioned - super expensive

I drove a 2014 GMC SLT CC Z71 4x4 for 61k miles and just traded for a 2016 Denali with the Magnetic Ride Control. IMHO there is very little difference in the ride. Note I replaced the ranchos on the 2014 at 50k miles so might have to replace these expensive MRC shocks at about that mileage, that would really suck if they are 500 each. I am very happy with the 6.2 8spd gas mileage. Trip B has over 1100 miles at over 20 mpg and that is with a large amount of remote start cooling and city driving pretty darn awesome and better than the 14 5.3 The Headlights are awesome on the 16 Huge improvement there.

I understand most people with Sierra Denali's are going to say it is the best ride ever; most people defend their expensive purchases.

 

I have had hours of driving my 2015 SLT Z71 and and my 2016 SLT non Z71, and driving a 2015 Sierra Denali with MRC (in the family), as well as test driving a 2016 MRC Sierra Denali over a three day period.

 

My honest opinion, as well as my father's who has driven all of these vehicles as well, is that the non Z71 Sierra rides as well as the MRC in the Denali. In fact, the MRC in some instances rides rougher than the SLT non Z71 depending on the type of bumps.

 

The Denali handles larger changes in the road better than the SLT non Z71, but the SLT non Z71 handles a jiggly road better.

 

The difference is only really seen when putting a trailer on the Denali vs the SLT. The Denali handles the weight better.

 

In my opinion, the cost of replacing the shocks was not worth it, I went with another SLT but specifally ordered a non Z71 package so I wouldn't have to replace the awful Ranchos.

 

The perfect truck (for me) would be a Sierra SLT non Z71 loaded out with the 6.2L and 8 speed.

I would agree..My Dad has a 2015 SLT and I own a 2016 Denali 6.2...not a whole lot of difference in ride...that said, he has 20's and I have 22's so maybe a small difference there. The other thing to consider with the Denali, if you ever want to install air assist, its not possible at this point due to the MRC equipment. The 6.2 and 8sp are awesome IMO.

I have personally owned a 2014 Denali without MRC (for nearly 2 years) and now a 2015 Denali with MRC (for nearly a year). MRC is hands down better.

 

My 2014 Denali had standard 20" wheels. My 2015 Denali has GM 22's. Both ride very similarly on the highway and on normal roads. My 2015 with MRC corners/handles better.

 

But the biggest differences is on rough roads. I have an old asphalt road near my house ( I drive it almost daily) that is very rough and uneven and has been repaired and had potholes filled dozens of times. In my 2014 without MRC my truck was rough and bounced all over the road (normal truck ride). In my 2015 with MRC (on 22's) it's VERY MUCH noticeably smoother. Even on 22's! I was very much surprised by this.

 

22's normally ride rougher. But MRC with 22's rides better than non-MRC with 20's.

 

That's my experience.

Just FYI for the Chevy fans:

 

You can soon order the "High Desert" package on LT, LTZ, or High Country trucks. It comes with some goofy setup in the bed (kind of like an Avalanche without the midgate) but the biggest thing is IT COMES WITH MAGNETIC RIDE CONTROL.

 

Of course leave it to GM to make you buy a bunch of other items in a package just to get technology that is already available on the Sierra which goes down the same assembly line!!

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
