What do you keep in your truck?

What does everyone keep in their truck for longer trips. Going from Ogden, Utah to Las Vegas. It's only 471 miles and I'm not really expecting my truck to have any problems, but I want to be prepared. I have some of the standard stuff: light toolbox, jumper cables, tow rope, Leatherman and a few other things. What are the things that happen that you then say, "Man, I wish I had this in my truck,". List is wide open!

I think thats a good start. Whenever Im pulling my boat to the lake or I'm just taking a trip, I carry a breaker bar and extension, a large craftsman socket set, vise-grips and/or channel locks and a couple of flathead/phillipshead screwdrivers. Some may consider it overkill, but to those that have ever been stuck on the side of the road without a simple tool to fix the problem will totally understand. In my opinion, I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I don't see how you need anything listed. Seems like you need a cooler with some cold drinks, chips candy and other snacks. A charged cell phone if you do run into problems, I don't think anyone should ever be "stuck" on the side of the road and if something does happen with a brand new truck I don't think a leatherman would cut it imo

I always carry a tool kit, jumper cables and a good flashlight. I could always use the tools other than for vehicle use. I found it hard to find a good tool kit (has everything) to fit behind the seat of a regular pickup. I finally got one at Harbor Freight and it was very cheap and good enough to carry in my truck.

If it's a highway trip in my stock truck, I tend to have "information gathering" tools such as GPS navigation. I'd include a flat fixer (yes, in a can). I know the location of the tools for changing a flat and I know how to use them, so I usually don't have additional tool kit to bring.

Now, if the trip includes the Z06, which means I'm going racing, I bring a small socket set, 4-way lug wrench, torque wrench, chocks, 2x4 wooden pieces, lightweight aluminum floor jack, hockey pucks, duct tape, air tank & its accoutrements, tire pressure gauge, and, not to mention, my "towing accoutrements box".

In addition to some of the items listed already, I carry an old change of clothes (jeans, shirt, jacket, & boots), large mag light, and about 300 rounds of 9mm.

A small tool box with a small socket set, screw drivers, pliers, adjustable wrench, a couple of spare fuses and a couple of hose clamps. I also usually have a small flashlight. Odds are that a emergency roadside repair can be made with those items. If it can't there is probably a tow truck in my future.

I'm curious on the Hockey Pucks?

I always have a little food and water with me , fix a flat and a flash light. No tools anymore, even if was able figure out what was broke I wouldn't have the part.

I have way to much but I also take a tow strap, some ratchet straps and carry my 18 volt impact to help on those tire changes. For me nothing worse than seeing an elderly couple on the side of the road with a flat, I will pull over and help them change it and be on my way in just a few minutes instead of them having more problems. :jester:

Just driving the truck solo? Mostly what hurricanoday posted. Some snacks, a few drinks, phone charge cable, iPod. I keep all my tow straps and stuff in the back, though that's just for lack of a better place to keep them and it's convenient to have them in the truck when I go grab the trailer.

Now when I traveled across the country last summer (Chicago to Los Angeles) with the trailer and race car... I had a reasonably full toolbox, floor jack, jack stands, chemicals (brakekleen, brake fluid, PB Blaster, oil, coolant), fully charged cordless impact gun, fully charged mini air-tank. But then again, that was MOSTLY intended for use on the race car than the truck.
