2016 Redesign wtf

I guess I'm alone here but I hate it. What a weak looking front end. And what is it with GM making headlights smaller and smaller? The Camarro's lights look like eyes trying to peak through a set of miniblinds and I guess the Silverado is now following suit? I dunno maybe it will grow on me with time but so far, this picture coupled with the 8 speed tranny makes me REALLY glad I bought a 2014 with a 6 speed....

Agree. Way too much Colorado which I am not a fan of. I love the late 80's/ early 90's square front ends, and I think the '14-15's modernize that look perfectly. There's not a single line I don't love on my Chevy.

Things I don't like on this:

-The hood looks a lot like the new F-150 with the curved/angled in middle portion. Hate it on the ford, hate it on this. Also, that weird central ridge?

-Ditching the classic dual headlight- That's the Chevy look, and now it's half-assed with a LED strip. I also don't like the little angled corners of the lights- that's exactly why I don't like the current Sierra light, that weird little upturn at the corner is out of place

-The chrome bar across the front- hopefully it's just colour matched for the Z71 model they've shown.

-Looks like the air dam is far more integrated into the overall front end. Might not look good without it.

Things I don't mind:

-the headlights now go straight into the grille, instead of the grille surround separating them. I'll have to see more pics to decide how I feel about that

-fog lights are kinda cool, very SUVish though.

Changes I like:

Nothing. Mine is '14 is already perfect :rollin:

The front end looks very similar to the current Sierra as far as the main lines and the grill go. Especially the way the bumper meets the grill....those lines make it look like they changed the Silverado to be more like the Sierra. I bet GM is moving back toward the old ways of the trucks looking more identical and we can expect the Sierra to be very close to this Silverado in design. Probably just the logo and maybe the main colored bar across the center of the grill will be different.

I hope that's not the case. I really like the "brand separation" they've started with the 14s. In fact wasn't that one of they things the talked about when they launched the '14's? Separating the looks to get different kind of customers. I actually think they should continue that. For example, if they make a Raptor-esque model make it a GMC, and then give Chevy the street performance truck. That type of thing. Bringing them back together would be a mistake IMO.

All in all, I'm glad I have my truck as it is.

Waiting to see what the Sierra will look like. I kinda hope I don't like it because I can't afford to trade the 14 in......

Going to hurt trade-in and resale of 14-15 I assume to. I do think it was too soon for an update (even if it is just the front end). I liked the long runs like the 88-98 and 07-13. Parts are available and aftermarket availability is great.

maybe it will now offer wireless charging lid for console....and I can borrow it :)

Yeah the problem is I'm always going in and out of the console. But you're right if I wasn't doing that, I could just leave the wires alone in the cutouts and there wouldn't be an issue. Either way under the current 2014 mylink system, plugging the phone in doesn't give much of an advantage. It makes way more sense to do it with Apple CarPlay

Maybe I'm missing something. What's the advantage of using Apple CarPlay compared to what we have now? 'Siri Eyes Free' allows me to do everything from texting and calling down to asking it trivia questions and weather. I can see Apple Maps being great for those that don't have the navigation.

I see CarPlay as an 'Apple-ized' version of MyLink. It's not a step backwards, just not exactly something that'll revolutionize the infotainment industry. Without actually using it and going by Youtube demonstrations, I guess this is all speculation on my end.

I have the center console but on a $50k truck I'd hate to see wires hanging out all the time even if it's just for my phone. I use an SD card for my music, the Bluetooth for text notifications and phone calls. The 'Siri Eyes Free' works great for me. Don't get me wrong, I do keep the USB in my glove box in case my phone dies.

Love this we are all spoiled ;o)

Not a huge fan either. Don't like the bar going across... I'd rather something like this

(less of a re-design, and poor photoshopping but you get the idea)

That looks nice, but without that center bar and these new LED headlights it's begging for the Sierra grill. Might as well slap the GMC logo on it at that point.

I think it looks awesome... Too soon though! I traded me 14 DC for a 15 CC for size... I doubt the wife will let me trade for a 16 just for looks!

whew...I thought for sure I'd like the redesign and LEDs and want to upgrade my 2014. The front end looks...OK but the LED light strips remind me of all the peiople who stick an led strip to their headlights...just tacky looking. Like the paint match but I assume this one is a top trim...wonder if all trims are going the paint match route.

Defintiely will have to take a closer look when I take my 14 for an oil change and these things are on the lot.

Now the question is if us 2014/2015 people can update to that front end and hood.

I dont see why you couldn't......if you owned a Sierra to begin with.

Seems like it has the Sierra lines and the All Terrain Grill

I kind of like it, but think it's too space alieny for me. It almost looks like they tried to make it look more like the Sierra which I don't like. I like that the Silverado and Sierra are completely different styles. If they want to update the headlights and grille, or just 1 or 2 things then that's one thing, but don't redesign every single thing on the front end after just 2 years. I guess this is what happens when people now a days just get bored too easily and want updates too constantly. I guess sooner or later vehicle will be like computers. You can buy the latest and greatest, but then 1 year later it's obsolete. Vehicles aren't like software, they don't need to constantly need updating as often as they're starting too.

I like the design. Il be sticking with my 14 however. I want my current truck to last me about 10 years at least. I just hope that Chevy gets on the ball with offering some kind of my link updates as these newer models keep getting features added to it.

I love the look. Its not much of a redesign at all. just a new front end and a couple tech items. I'm sure in 2-3 years there will be a complete redesign again.

Agreed, not a redesign--more of a mid-model refresh. Aside from looks--which are a personal preference thing, I'm starting to think that buying the MMR is more prudent than buying a new redesign when it comes out. For any vehicle. It gives them a chance to fix anything they may have gotten wrong the first time around.

Nooooooooooooooooo! 2014/2015 was the first time the Silverado got the front grill right since 1998 and now they have ruined it once again."

Amen Chebby. Amen.

    • No I didn’t watch a video of a person who analyzes oil for a living explain general oil usage. For clarity I did ask my brothers one who runs our equipment business. The other who runs our old ROW business about oil usage. Nothing has changed since I retired. Their personal vehicles or work vehicles use no oil. Not enough to see on the oil checking device. Then I pondered. I like to ponder. In this extended oil changing world with oil change countdowns or lights. If engines used say a qt every 2500 miles or up to even 4000 miles. With oil changes reaching as high as 15000 miles. Normal for most people is eight to ten. Vehicles should potentially be seizing up all over the place. Especially in hilly terrain. Just how many people actually check their oil? Maybe 10 percent. Those are the people that probably change their oil early. I like to research used car listings. I have five favorite dealers I check. They all list carfax with their listing. It’s rare to see vehicles with anything but extended oil changes. Transmission service, forget about it. I’ve seen Honda and Toyota certified vehicles up to 100K miles and ten years old. With nothing but normal maintenance. Isn’t nice we all have different experiences and believe our way is the best. You certainly get backup for whatever you believe. Life would be boring otherwise.
    • Interesting rumor. Dealers near me have been tight-lipped so far, but if this reveal actually happens next week, I'm really hoping they finally give the HD a proper interior overhaul. The competition has been eating their lunch in the cabin department for a while now.
    • There are a few good takeaways in that video that pertain to this thread, certainly the possibility of the oil control rings having buildup, the fuel injectors and how clean or not that they are ending up affecting the pistons rings carbon buildup, and the fact that its normal up to a point for a given engine to use some oil, and that the oil quality that is being utilized is part of that ring clogging up issue as well.   I was talking with a neighbor yesterday who has a baby LZ0 duramax and he had bought it slightly used but it does consume some oil and he has switched over to 5W-30 Euro spec oil and in this case that never made a difference in consumption over the factory 0W-20 recommendation. He finds it uses a quart in about 3500 miles and as he goes a ways over that distance he adds oil to full and goes another 1000 miles or so and then changes oil and is typically at 40% or so left on the oil monitor at that point with his use case of quite a lot of highway miles and more limited in short run use. I don't know what other LZ0 engines are doing for oil consumption but that is what his is doing.
    • I dont care what Lake says. Goodnight.
    • Ok well I guess Lake disagrees with me on a few points. I call oil consumption pretty basic. Rudimentary. He calls it "really complicated." I think 1qt consumed in 3k miles is a lot. He says that's normal. In 22 minutes, he'll use his natural talent to explain oil consumption to anyone watching this video. He covers everything from obvious engine damage to how normally functioning healthy engines consume oil by design. Lake explicitly states how you drive will impact oil consumption.   Shut up and watch:
