What damage could be hidden.

Oh man... I'd be fighting for a new truck. I wouldn't trust the dealer to look at the truck at all. As for damage, when you say the front tire came off completely, I'd be checking all the brake components on that corner as well.

I know we only hear about bad GM service departments on this forum, but all others are not immune to bad service work. I've heard more bad things about the service department at the dodge dealership in my town than any other. A guy I know took his truck into that dealer to get the fuel filter changed. When he picked the truck up, they had drained his brand new synthetic oil, filled it with conventional oil, and didn't even touch the fuel filter! On his invoice they even charged him for the oil change and fuel filter change!

While not as bad as your situation, I'm just saying there are a lot of incompetent people doing the simple jobs at dealerships like tire rotations and oil changes.

I smell a law suit

What are you going to sue for??? Emotional distress??? Clearly the OP is fine since it happened less than 100' from picking the truck up, as long as the dealer accepts responsibility and makes all of the appropriate repairs at no cost to the OP then that is all that matters.

People that have this attitude of "I am going to sue" are a big reason why this country is in the toilet. I fell down on a wet floor in a major fast food restaurant, bruised my hip bad enough to have a softball lump on it by the time I made it back to my office, tore my jeans on an exposed bolt in the floor and had a nice long cut on my leg. Could of have sued, sure I could but why? Would I heal from the injuries, sure did with no issues.

The restaurant stepped up, paid for my jeans and for my time off from work and for an event I had to miss and then gave my vouchers for food as well. They then fixed all of the issues on the floor as to why it caused the accident so it wouldn't happen again.

Back to the OP, I would make sure anything that was impacted is thoroughly checked and or replaced. When the front came off did it just tuck up into the wheel well or did it actually come off and then the truck drop down on the rotor?

That is not the reason for that and if you want to turn this into political hour this is not the place.

Clearly th OP is fine and that is the most important thing period. The restaurant paid for all of your expenses because they know you could have taken legal action against them.

Like you said, I do agree.... I would have the truck on a lift and gone over with a magnifine glass.

I am curious to see how it landed as to possible body damage and rotor/control arm damages. Also do check the lugs for damage.

Wheel/hub bearing for the side that hit the pavement. If you have the aluminum control arms then yes insist they replace the control arm. I haven't looked but do our trucks have aluminum spindles? If so that needs to be inspected/replaced. They can crack and like a head without magnaflux it is hard to spot a hairline crack. Id be furious. I also have a lease and in sure they would try to dock the value at trade in time. We Have a dealer in town that i will not take my truck to. I will drive farther for service at a more reputable dealer.

I'm not sue happy, but agree - lawsuit and a very stern conversation with service manager and maybe an email to GM.

I'd be going apesh** in the service department if this happened!

The fact that you would sue contradicts your statements. This is what is wrong with America (and people in general), first thought is i am going to sue as opposed to letting them correct and make things right. You sue when a happy resolution can't be come to as a last resort, not a first step. probably the same type of people that sue if the cruise ship misses a port or has an electrical problem that inconveniences their trip.

This whole you owe me a new truck and I am going to sue is just sad and pathetic, like those saying it have never done anything to not justify having to go back and fix or correct anything. Shesh, people these days...

Sucks OP, reminds me of Ron White's story at Sear's and how he would sue to own the Sear's tower. Figure out what would make you happy and let them know. You hold the reigns (with in reason). Not much damaged probably happened, let them fix it and get something else out of it like extended warranty, free services or accessories or something. Let us know what you do and happens.

Ok maybe not a full on law suit but lets see how the dealership responds as far as damages to your truck.

If it is not to your liking then i would give GM a call THEN legal action if you are not satisfied.

im not a lawsuit guy, but this sounds like a good one to file

what if you were doing 70+MPH on the highway and lost the wheel? screw them.

Accidents happen. Let the dealer replace the parts and have a reputable independent alignment shop look things over. Let them know what happened and have the tech look for any issues. If there are signs of a problem then the dealer/GM should cover a clean trade-in for a different truck. No need for lawsuits if the dealer is willing to step up to make things right.

I would take it somewhere else to get looked at and get things repaired and tell dealer they will pay for it. What they did was pure negligence!

If you aren't satisfied with the dealership resolution on this, It might be worth a discussion with GM Customer Service.

Thank every one for the great responses. I am only looking to get my truck repaired. It could have been way worse. The dealer ordered two new rims because the holes egged. They are also changing the ball joint because the control arm is ok so they say. They used paint less dent removal for fix the fender and new wheel well molding. The driver door was repainted I guess a lug nut hit the door and chipped the paint. The only problem now is the are not doing the rotors but I am going to look into that further.

If the control arm is aluminium, make them change it!!!! Also if the rotor hit the pavement, make them change it and the dust shield, rotors should be changed in pairs.

Front end alignment after all work is complete. Good luck

Mistakes happen.

If you have a phone with a camera I would have taken pictures. I would also have been present when the truck was put on the lift.

    • First of all sorry, I know there are a ton of transmission temperature threads...   My truck is a 2025 LZ0 High (10l89 10-speed) High Country with NHT max trailering package. The NHT package is supposed to have "enhanced cooling."   Normally the trans temp sits around 200. It seems like with any real stress it quickly jumps into the 220s (for example climbing a grade unloaded at lower speeds). I haven't towed much with this truck, but I'm concerned if it gets this hot unloaded.    I've tried a few different things to keep the temps down (tow/haul mode, sport mode, low range when that makes sense) and nothing seems to affect it.    I'm curious if others are the same behavior or if anyone has found techniques to keep the temps down. It seems like it just can't handle reduced airflow at lower speeds, even with relatively light loading.    Thanks!
    • I'm at 105,000 miles on my baby Duramax. No issues yet. I hit 31 mpg's traveling through hilly terrain to a project in Colorado. I will buy another 3.0. I'm not concerned.
    • I'm glad you have 14,000 trouble free miles. Frankly though, that's a really low bar. A bare minimum of 80,000 trouble free miles as the norm (rare exceptions always exist) across the whole model year should be a starting point. Good maintenance habits should push these past the 100,000 mile mark with only the most minor of issues. Let's hope GM truly leveled up the quality game with these new engines and exploding engines under 50,000 miles are gone.
    • This is exactly the reason our EV has consumed so much of my driving. I don't want to fire up a cold diesel or gas engine just to drive 2 miles up to the store. It's arguably terrible for an engine. If I'm not driving at least 10 miles and don't need to do truck things, the truck stays parked.   Enter the EV. It's immediately heating or cooling the cabin as needed (heat pump). An engine doesn't need to warm up or be driven gently. I can tear off in it with ZERO guilt. Move the car 1/4 mile from store to store and not think "gee, I'm short-cycling a lukewarm engine".   It doesn't idle in a drive-through. Doesn't idle at stop lights. (OK, neither would the diesel, if I let stop-start have its way, but I don't).   Even moving it out of the garage to wash it... HA! It doesn't need to be started just to move 40 feet. I have cars that I will actually put in neutral and push (no start) in/out of the garage or shop if they absolutely HAVE to be moved. My nice Camaros.
