i equate this 'canned v8 sound' to me playing goal at hockey... i've got the painted up goalie mask, awesome looking jersey, matching blocker, trapper & pads.... that way when i suck at least i look good!!

[quote name="kp52" post="1848541" timestamp="1470754748" Music is my favorite noise anyway, it's amazing what I was missing with the exhaust noise rattling around in the cab.

I agree, I loved my Rams and the hemi exhaust sounds pretty manly on them, but it gets a little tiring after a 600 mile drive. I actually like how quiet these are, didnt mind the quiet ecoboost either.

With all the technology available these days there really is no excuse to cheat. No reason an engine can't sound great "naturally".

I do think the canned exhaust sound is silly, but it can be disabled.

As to the backup idea I think it's pretty ingenious. If you ever have some time to kill, go plop a squat next to a boat ramp and observe. Most guys do it right, but every now and then you'll find a guy that can't seem to figure out how to do it all by himself and he refuses to let his wife drive the boat, so instead she gets to back the boat/empty trailer in the water while he's in the boat. Without fail it'll take 10 minutes for her to get it right, and that entire times she's taking up 2 lanes and holding up the line and it typically ends in a screaming match as the husband get's ticked and she gets frustrated.

I'm certain that backup assist thing will save many marriages each year.

Yea, if they need a knob to back it up, I doubt they are qualified to be pulling it forward on the road either.

great comment!!

I've been to boat ramps often over the years and there are a lot of people that could benefit from the backup assist regardless of what brand truck they are driving..........

I bet many people WITH backup assist still shouldnt be going to crowded boat ramps lol.

Yes the knob works great when backing up in an easy situation.

But often your dealing with zig zag my trailer/s back into very tight places.

When I go to the campground at the car race it like shoving a 26 ft trailer into a wine bottle.

So guess who backed the Ford and trailer back in at the last race....... "THIS GUY" the owner was to reliant on the knob.

But that would remove my Sunday afternoon entertainment......

Nuthin better than sitten on a patio watching rednecks launch boats.

My point is that you just need to practice. Some people may get it right away, some may need the time. Honestly, it's not much to learn how a trailer acts. It's like driving in general. You had to practice right? The knob would be like instead of learning how to drive, you "learned" on a vehicle with every driving assist you can think of including the self parallel park. But, then once you get into a vehicle that doesn't have all those assist you'll be like a fish out of water. If that makes any sense. You can't learn unless you practice and do it.

I prefer a quiet cab anymore as well (no spring chicken any more).

I can honestly say my 2016 Sierra is the first truck I've owned that NEEDED a tach. I can't hear a damn thing in that cab. Like riding around in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar (a good thing in my mind now-a-days).

agreed, you should try some sound deadening, the roof and doors really are lacking on these trucks I was quite surprised by the lack of materials for the door yet GM did a decent job with interior noise. Now after a full deadening my truck is so nice, and those pesky 6x9's vibrate the panels much less, with improved sound quality. I plan to post pics when I can get off my can to do it.

I don't think my Hellcat has fake piped in exhaust sound.

My 2011 5.3 GMC sounds more like a sewing machine running though.

Remind me not to take you for a boat ride if you ever make it out here

Factory exhaust is just way too quiet. I could not stand it, so i had my dealer install the GM Borla touring dual exhaust last week. Still very quiet inside the cabin and outside it is just a low mean growl until you step on the go pedal. Worthy of the 420hp 6.2 engine. Vrooom

Usually folks appreciate a quiet ride inside a vehicle, and then most of us listen to the radio or something plugged in so we never hear our exhaust system anyway.. why does a quiet exhaust system bother you? Just curious..

I love that I can hear both my loud exhaust and the music so it's pretty even. I don't have the music as loud as I can either. I've never even had it above 1/2 even with the windows down going 75 mph on the interstate.

To answer that question, I just love a loud truck. I don't like a bad crackling exhaust though. When I bought the '14 I just couldn't stand not being able to hear it. You barely can hear it if you WOT it. I just didn't like the fact that a 5.3 V8 sounded like a Prius.

Truck I don't care because it is a truck. As I mentioned earlier, my '11 5.3 sounds more like sewing machine than a V8. Car I prefer the exhaust has a "presence" rather than being obnoxiously loud. The Hellcat borders on obnoxiously loud when WOT but I can live with that since it is a toy, not a daily driver and you don't stay long at WOT throttle.
