"Synthesized" V8 Sound?

Maybe I have been living under a rock, but.. I was reading a long term test update on-line about the F150 eco-boost, and ran across this:

"Ford also gives the EcoBoost a synthesized engine note that plays through the speakers to sound more like a V-8. This “feature” can’t be turned off and is truly pointless addition that hides the beautiful mechanical sounds of the turbos and multi-cam V-6 under the hood."

I mean, really???? That sounds totally ridiculous and would be a reason I would say no to that truck.

They did the same thing to the V6 Mustangs. Not sure if they still do it, but it did make me laugh. I also laughed at that knob they know put in the trucks that help you bakc up a trailer. The first thing I said at the end of the commercial was "or you could learn how to back up a trailer".

My ford buddy was explaining it to me. Couldn't help but laugh, I said lets go drive a real V8 then you can hear it, better yet feel it! But I will admit GM has something with that Bose ANC my truck is quite, now after sound deadening its ultra quite.

2011+V8 Mustangs also have a mechanical 'sound tube' that goes from the air cleaner box to the interior, it actually sounds pretty good.

But you do know M4 BMW and some Porches also pipe engine sounds into the cabin via the stereo as well. They claim the cabin is so well insulated quiet they need to do it to get the full experience.

That's correct, Grumpy. I "had" the engine sounds and yes, it's hokey. Now unplugged. It was kind of a muffled magnaflow sounding background noise coming thru the sub woofer when you accelerate. I un-pinned the two wires in the plug going into it. I like hearing the turbos whistling, instead.

what happened to radio suppressor fail and whining coming over the AM radio.

a 289 falcon sounded great with it. :)

I need old school, I still judge carbed from injection, wet sleeve from dry, duration, compression, solid lift from hydraulic.

the fake sounds make people like me worthless.

the v6 being a weirdo no matter what they do with it... the uniqueness of what they got would sell more.

no 2 v6 is alike.

if it were not for that powerstroke.. ford would have lost 90% of the men that drove trucks.

I had a 1974 racked over 3 times. F100, 3 speed manual.

My brother's EcoBoost 2015 Mustang GT has the same "feature", if you can call it that.

"or you could learn how to back up a trailer".

Yea, if they need a knob to back it up, I doubt they are qualified to be pulling it forward on the road either.

I've been to boat ramps often over the years and there are a lot of people that could benefit from the backup assist regardless of what brand truck they are driving..........

I bet many people WITH backup assist still shouldnt be going to crowded boat ramps lol.

Yes the knob works great when backing up in an easy situation.

But often your dealing with zig zag my trailer/s back into very tight places.

When I go to the campground at the car race it like shoving a 26 ft trailer into a wine bottle.

So guess who backed the Ford and trailer back in at the last race....... "THIS GUY" the owner was to reliant on the knob.

Sometime between my 55th birthday and my 60th birthday I started to prefer quiet in the cab. Since then I don't care if it's a V8 or V6, along as it's fast. I don't thing I'll out age that. I still have an hot rod that make noise don't need it in a DD any more. That frees up a lot of vehicles I wouldn't have considered before.

But that would remove my Sunday afternoon entertainment......

Nuthin better than sitten on a patio watching rednecks launch boats.

I agree, I loved my Rams and the hemi exhaust sounds pretty manly on them, but it gets a little tiring after a 600 mile drive. I actually like how quiet these are, didnt mind the quiet ecoboost either.

    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
