Convince me not to do this lol

I really really wanted the 2500 diesel before I bought mine. I just didn't feel that it was worth the additional 12k over the 1500 gasser. Truth be told a little part of me still wishes I had bought the diesel, the sound they make is fantastic.

That said I really don't understand this fascination with buying a truck, spending a boatload of cash to make it just how you want it, then starting all over. If you're gonna do that buy something used that needs a bit of work and maybe you can make some cash off it.

Personally I'd finish it up with whatever you want, then spend the money on a new hobby or save it. If youre looking for an inexpensive hobby may I recommend getting into the firearm community ;)

Yeah I'm not rich I just spend all my extra cash on making my rig look better.

I just feel like I might be missing out on not having a diesel. Prolly cause I have never owned one! I appreciate all this advice you guys are slowly killing my urge.

I agree with the Penguin but with that being said I will add this.

You and others on the modification bus and buy new must really like to work.

Save the money for retirement and really enjoy life instead of giving money away. :happysad:

If you have to have your ego stroked do something for friends or family instead of getting stroked with material objects. :happysad:

Not to be a downer and off the subject but I was under the impression you can't get the Z71 with the max tow package. If I was you and really itching to spend some more money I would just throw a supercharger or twin turbos in that beast and have some fun.

What did your cousin like about the HD? Anything?

i love my truck, do not get me wrong guys. It's a mean rig. I always get compliments when I'm out and about. I am just trying to see what kinda options I have out there. I see so many guys in here trading in for a 17 and I'm like... are the 15s that bad?

I had a person stop by the detail shop and ask if my truck was one of Davis loves whom is a famous golfer in this area... haha. It's a head turner for sure.

I'm just running out of ideas on modding it... and it makes me sad :(. My girlfriend and her dad said I should just keep it and pay it off and that I have such a sweet rig a lot of people would be jealous.

He liked everything about the HD actually. He mainly commutes and just had the HD to pull his boat but found with a fully loaded SLT he could pull enough weight to haul his boat. He liked the better ride when not hauling his boat for his Norma commute enough to choose an SLT over a new HD. Drive both and see the difference yourself!

You are correct. Can't get max tow and Z71.

And if it was max tow it would have the tow mirrors, and a 2015 5.3 max tow would have 3.73's.

(As an SLT it will have the trailering equipment that includes the hitch and brake controller even if not NHT)

The HD's don't have a max tow. Tow mirrors and Z71 can be ordered on the same truck (I had that mix on 3 different duramaxes).

I also changed from Dmax to 1500 because towing demand reduced and was looking for the improved ride.

Did I say I miss the Dmax?

And the L5P released for 2017 is 445HP with 910 LB-FT

What would the dealer give you for your truck? Seems like a bad idea to me to trade something in that you have a lot of money invested in and still owe 33k on for an even more expensive diesel or a gas 2500 that doesn't ride good and gets 10mpg. If you have the money go for it but judging by the fact you owe 33 it doesn't sound financially wise.

You ever seen a U-haul behind a hearse???.......You can't take all that money with you. Might as well spend it.

Coming from someone who is currently in the same boat as you, I will say do not do it. I have thought about it myself and it isn't worth losing the money you have invested.

To make a long story short, I was leasing a 13 GMC Sierra, my dad had some financial issues so I gave him the truck and got myself a cheap lease on a ford fusion ($250/month for 24 months) after less than a year driving the Fusion I absolutely HATED driving a car. I needed a truck again, so I went to a dealer and traded in the lease for a 14 Sierra 1500. I had to come up with the remainder if the lease payments as a downpayment and was basically upside down going into the 14 Sierra. On a truck that I probably could have got payments in the $350-$425 range I am paying $500/month.

Good news is I got a truck and don't have to drive a small car anymore

Bad news is I am paying more for it in the long run

Just a quick KBB search, assuming you have a double cab and some additional features, your trade in is currently 30-33k. So best case scenario you make out owing zero on your truck or maybe they give you 2-5k extra for current mods if they really like it.

A standard equipped 2500 SLT is $61k

If you took the 5k they may give you for your truck and put that down, with a the going rate of 6.9% APR you're looking at payments of $900/month.

Now I don't know what your current payment is, but I think it's safe to say that $900/month isn't really feasible for most people.

If you think you can afford that, then go right ahead, but before you even walk into a dealership beware that this is the number they are going to come back with on a standard equipped SLT, which you probably won't find on the lot.

On the other hand, you could hold onto your truck for another 1-2 years, drop your payoff down and do that knowing that trucks tend to hold their value so you could still be looking at a value of your truck in the 26-30k range, especially with your modifications you could possibly selling is privately, make more money, and have more money to go put down on a 2500 in 2018.

Which brings up another point, GM hadn't changed the look of the Silverado or Sierra for close to 10 years, then changed it twice within 3 years. Wouldn't you hate to put yourself upside down only to find out they redesigned the 18/19 model year or hell maybe even release a diesel option in the 1500!
