Speed Limiter Delete

Thank you for your feed back.

I'm glad your okay with manufacturers changing you vehicles performance, strength, or top speed. Great support.

Glad your okay with a speedometer that is almost 2 times the speed the vehicle can go.

Glad you live on a road that doesnt have a 75 miles an hour speed limit must be 30mph to be able to pass anyone you want and only go 5 miles an hour over the speed limit. Do you have a flying machine where you just go over the top of them?

You seem to be lost because I would personally like to see you pass an 18 wheeler and a car and just go 5 miles over the speed limit with traffic possibly over the next hill.

I will gladly turn in my drivers license when you actually tell the truth.

Thank you so much for your positive support and the dream you think your in. Now be realistic.

I think the reason this thread died almost a year ago is because of the rude remarks it caused and since being revived has continued to do so. Maybe it just needs to die again and left that way.

Sorry I forgot to include my age I am 52 and disabled. . You failed to read what I posted, if your going to reply please read the whole thing. I dont drive in ditches sir. I did that because my engine cut out 1/2 thru passing when my vehicle speed got locked without my knowledge or permission. So I avoided a head on collision. But I see that doesnt matter to you and your dont see the point. So why waist my time.

If you like manufactures modifying your vehicle without your permission or knowledge that you. Not me.

Good chance that GM done did this to you because some people have reported driveshaft failures at 100+ mph that would be a fun time wouldn’t it... there’s several theads on this site about this might want to read them and consider upgrading yours after your warranty period is up so the silly General was probably just trying to spare the rest of us from this from happening.

Yep your right GM should have told you about the change. I’ll guarantee it was when whoever “they” are did the update. So really IMO who ever did the update should have informed you of this but odds are they just did what the computer done did tell them to and didn’t bother to find out what “they” were updating or they done loaded your truck with the wrong update. Good luck holding the manufacturer responsible for this and I would advise from now on when you get updates you ask what they did done change then find a lonely road somewhere and see for yourself.  Suzuki did this when the Busas first came out they would do 200+ but there was a gentlemans agreement among manufacturers that bikes at the time would be limited to 186 so Suzuki “recalled” all the bikes for a camshaft timing sensor (or some crap) and when you got your bike back it would only do 186.

Yep been to Texas multiple times drove all around been passed by everything and also passed a lot of vehicles with TexASS plates I drive I-35 every day on my way to work pass a different Texas plated vehicle at least once a week ... I don’t and apparently some in Texas don’t feel the need to go jump off the bridge just because everybody else is doing it. I don’t care if you want to go 115mph to pass somebody that’s on you. I have a problem with you doing it with oncoming traffic trying to pass multiple vehicles because according to you everybody is doing 90+ sooooo exactly how do you judge that again??? Heaven forbid you leave earlier to get where your going. Anyway it will be your vehicle manslaughter charges to deal with not mine when you or the person coming at you swerve and loose control and then you won’t need to worry about such things.

Like already stated repeatedly in this thread over and over again get a tune and be done with it & move on if it’s so important to you. The warranty thing only comes into play if “they” go looking for it.

Thank you for your reply.

I dont drive that way all the time as it migh seem that way. A new truck off the lot goes 115mph. As mine did when I passed someone nearly 3 years ago. I can see hwy 35 from my house. But this happened on Hwy 87 going to San Antonio. My truck had 18k miles on it and will be 3 years young in October. I dont drive much nor do I speed unless I need to pass someone, but when in a blind that when I exceed the speed limit. So in 3 years I have hit the limiter, once at 115 and the 2nd after if got changed to 99 and my only path to safety was a ditch, couldnt go forward due to limiter and xouldnt go back where I was because the gap was gone. Ihave already purchased a tuner and was told it could void my warranty if used.

If my Truck was okay to go 115 when purchased why is it now not okay? The tires that came with it was rated for 120 I changed them to tires rated at 130+. I dont see the need to stay at 115 mph for a long period of time like some people do in Arizona, or near 100 mph on Hwy I10 in Houston. I do understand that in some parts of our country the top speed might be 65 but as you know not here.

Anyone who passes anyone on the road come with risks involved but when your expecting more horse power and the engine cuts out you have now created a very unsafe condition.

My truck is a Denali 1500, not made for pulling or a camper, but has the same engine the Corvette has. It is not a high profile truck. I still believe that the speedometer top speed needs to be what the limiter is.

In my case;

I had it free and clear and would not have needed the extra speed had it not been for a driver who turned into the incoming lane just after I started to pass traffic. (He did a slow stop at a stop sign) I either had to floor it or fall back by slamming on my brakes. Knowing I had the extra speed I floored it, and the engine cut out. To late to slam on brakes and try to get over (and my space now gone) I hit the ditch and braked hard. So no one got hurt and my Truck was okay. Had I had the speed I thought I had it would not have been an issue. That driver passed me and didnt stop just kept driving.

Gentlemen, please stop bickering! The only way you’ll be able to conquer the speed limiter is if you tune. Being in my fifties, I’ve seen a lot of horrible accident.
The one that really struck a never with me was this one accident involving a 17 year old, good looking young man that had his whole life ahead of him. Highschool student , tuned his F150 which I’m sure being young, dumb and full of testosterone didn’t help, decided to race his pickup truck trying to impress his highschool friends, he was traveling at a much higher speed than his truck was designed for, while speeding he lost control, ran his truck of the road through trees and when they found him his truck was found crushed and his brains were all over the cab. His parents had to identify what they could of him. Since then, his parents divorced, lost their jobs and their home was closed on just fighting legal matters pertaining to their sons actions. Apparently, modifications were found and parents face criminal charges for the tune.
All BS aside, I’m in my 50’s, I’ve tuned all my trucks and yet never to this day changed the speed limiter in any of my rigs, what for? I’ve run Fox suspension in most the trucks and noticed one thing the faster I went, the more unstable trucks are. There’s NO truck designed to go fast, none unless race truck. Just got back from a trip in New Mexico, fastest I did was 85 in a 75. I do understand where you’re coming from, really I do. God Bless and be safe!

I’ve found all of my trucks to be more stable at a 100mph than most of the sports cars I’ve owned or driven (corvette, charger, Infiniti, 350z). Sports cars at that speed are twitchy. Trucks are just solid. Even lifted 4.5” on 35’s. Speed limits where I live are 80-85mph. Cruising at or near a 100mph is as common as breathing.

I’ve been mid pass on an 18 wheeler on a two lane black top and had the speed limiter kick in on my f250. Talk about a pucker factor of 20.

None of this matters because everyone’s internet persona is morally superior to their real persona. I just wanted to throw my two cents in. I’ll just go back to pumping my own gas now.

Your right on. In Texas it’s not uncommon to have a two lane road with a 75 MPH speed limit. Semis travel theses roads too. Usually at 60-65 MPH. Your line of site is forever. You pull out to pass even maintaining the speed limit, someone pulls out their driveway coming at you. I nail it make the pass clean. I look at my speed I’m doing 120. Times like that make me glad I had a tune. Can’t imagine what would have happened if I had to lock it down to get back behind the semi or worse. 99 cut off is ridiculous.

I’ll admit, I myself have been looking for a programmer/tuner for my 18 6.2, have no idea which one though. I was told Hypertech by guys at off-road store but there’s non that’ll program the tranny yet. Chances are I’ll be stuck waiting a while.

This is the first time I've been on this thread and I can tell you I'm very disappointed, I have never seen or read so much negativity and condescending comments and reply.

I'm on about 10 different boards on this Tapatalk and this is by far the worst one I've ever seen.

People should try to be civil with their comments.

PS I won't be back

Thank you for your reply.

That's what happened to me. It was scary, so scary I called the dealership in tears, I was not only scared out of my mind I was also very very angry. People could have died that day. Thank you for your understanding as most people dont understand unless it just happened to them.

There are a majority of us that wouldn’t drive like idiots and then there are a few that drive like maniacs in the Houston area around 45N at 1960 area, flying in and out traffic with these broken down junkers even with donut spares on them.....
I’m definitely getting a tune, still working on which one considering non have the 8speed figured out yet. I’m leaning towards the “superChips”, apparently they’ve got great customer service too

It's called the internet! People are braver sitting behind a keyboard.  Most would never talk like that to your face.  Take it with a grain of salt!  I personally find it amusing.

Not even gonna try to clean this up again. People are not able to discuss this acting like an adult. This thread is done.

    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling what the government, your government, data shows.   It wasn't an argument. It wasn't a suggestion. It was a statement of FACT. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. Your not entitled to your own facts. If you and I were, they wouldn't be facts.    fact /făkt/   noun Knowledge or information based on real occurrences. "an account based on fact; a blur of fact and fancy." Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed. "Genetic engineering is now a fact. That Chaucer was a real person is an undisputed fact." A real occurrence; an event. "had to prove the facts of the case." The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition • More at Wordnik   If you'd like to disagree call your Senator or Representative and let him know his departments are in error. But you and I? We are not doing this.
    • Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?
    • Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.
    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!! • We’ll have to agree to disagree. I didn’t experience or know anyone who had a decent car after 100K miles in the 60s through the 80s that were daily commuter vehicles. Unless they were collector vehicles. Of course things cost more due to inflation. But we also make more money. The biggest money drains these days are things people think they need today versus what we require back in the day. Like cell phones and internet as examples. Another example is where you live. Cost of living varies from state to state. I would need twice the money to live in NJ vs Texas in retirement. The car you recently purchased was less than my first car with inflation at 3000$ in 1973. I didn’t have air, electric windows, cruise etc. Purchasing power is equivalent, you just have to do the research.
