Does a Range AFM disabler work on a 2017 model?

So take it to the dealer to clear the trouble codes and all good.

Seems like a pain in the butt. Maybe better to get tuner then

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 6.2 liter 8 speed. I bought the newest version of range afm disabler from the range company (they said this would ensure the most recent version).

I bought it plugged it in and worked fine for the initial road trip, second time I started trucK I had a check engine light and threw a "steering assist reduced" code. I also got emails from onstar saying to take truck to dealer.

I called and did as Range said plug unit in with engine running and the check engine light went out but message still there.

Now If I leave it plugged in about every 8 days engine light comes back on, sending unit back its not worth the hassle.

did you take yours to the dealer to get the 'reduced steering assist' message cleared? Mine did this a week or so after using it, never got any check engine light, just the message in the display. I had sent mine in also to get it to the latest and greatest firmware..

I haven't used it for a month, still getting that message on every start up, but there is no difference in the feel of my steering..

This is why I dont like that Range device. Always had issues with them on my Avalanches. Won't dare try it on my '16 ATX.

I haven't yet. Still trying to schedule for service.

Is there a programmer out that works for the 2017 model that can adjust the AFM, clear codes, and add some performance improvements. I have done some reading and haven't found one yet to work with the 17 model?

diablo Intune works on 2015 and 2016 so it should work on a 2017 since they didnt change the ECMs. Ive used on my last 3 trucks. I havnt tryed on my 2017 yet but i will soon enough with some updates. Ill report back in a few weeks after i get 1500 on my truck and know everything else is good lol..

They changed the ability to acess them for 2017 you need to have a special autorization code to get in the ECU.

Read the first document if you are interested in the details.

No, I did not take it to the dealer yet. I read up on it and found some people say it clears after 8 drive cycles, mine has yet to clear several hundred miles later.

The lady I talked to at Range was really nice and tried to help but bottom line they know this is a problem and don't have a solution yet.

My steering does not seem affected so I am not too worried and will have them clear it next oil change if they can. But am not going to use Range until it works with no codes or check engine lights.

I forgot which one there is a fuse on the right side of the dash that can be removed and reinstalled to clear the service warning lights , Track mode, Brake assist etc . Truck will need to be driven a couple hundred miles for lights to clear. Dealer can clear the codes but will show a blank spot of when the Range was working. I had a dead battery once last winter after leaving Rang plugged in for a weekend but then another time truck started right after sitting two weeks with it plugged in. I just plug in the Range for long trips and use M5 around town, sometimes I wish had kept the 2012 with 4.8 Vortec

This is what I'm kinda doing now as well. I have to bring mine in for the 1k service after the break-in period, so will have them clear that code.

Went and got the code cleared with me first oil change today at a little over 1K miles. Service guy stated the communication bus is finicky on these trucks. He said he's seen the trucks throw codes after people add after market lights or anything that interfered with the bus system.

He even stated that my Bluetooth ODB-II that I use could have thrown the code as well. He didn't say what the code was or put it on the work paper.

This was also the second time someone in the service department commented on how much they liked my exhaust setup, asking what I had for a muffler.. Haha...

I guess Range is working to figure this out, I just installed it on my '17 tonight and its throwing a Steering Assist Reduced message as well. Everything else works fine Ver V8.4R1. Called and she said give it 6 drive cycles. I hope they resolve this soon. 310 miles and throwing messages gives me a stomach ache.

Any update on this?  I got a 2017 and got a Range around Dec.  It worked for a few weeks and then I got the Power Steering Reduced warning.  I sent the Range for a update back in Jan but after having my truck at the dealer for 3 days while they tried to figure out the warning issue ( I was not going to tell them about it bc they would deny warranty work ) I am scared to try it again.
