Thinking about trading in my '15 1500 for a '17 w/ 6.2 or &#39

I have a loaded '15 z71 4x4 5.3 crew cab.. white with the gmc 22" wheels.. slt.. all options.. really like the truck, but Im bored and want something new and different.. not really diggin the white and chrome look anymore.. id rather black/blacked out look.. and sportier/more power.. more unique.. keep in mind i just ordered a fabtech 6" lift along with new wheels and tires but the shop took my deposit and hasnt ordered yet so Ill use that money on modifying whatever I end up purchasing.

Considering:

'17 all terrain crew cab short bed with the 6.2 and 8spd

or

'17 raptor supercrew

I think Ive ruled out the 2500hd with the 6.6.. I just dont do enough trailering to justify it and the 6.2 outperforms the diesel from what I can see.. I love the attitude of the diesel and how mod friendly they are.. I dont like the 10" addded length as I frequent the city and its already a pain the ass to park.. added maintenance cost.. added weight etc.. I do like them, but just unsure its for me..

Im trying not to make an impulsive move, does anyone know when the next generation of gm trucks are coming out? or any info on the trucks Im considering that might make me rethink my choice?

The 6.2 is a beast trust me from experience and the new Raptor looks awesome! Either way you decide is a winning move IMO. Two things I wouldn't buy another black full size truck and the Raptor may be priced at full sticker or more initially.

Model year 2019 for the new truck. Releasing it mid to late 2018.

If you are considering a raptor and can swing one, I'd definitely go that route. It will hold its value unlike any other truck and will tow amd haul more then enough. Plus the new Raptor will actually walk a 6.2. Of course this is just my opinion, I wish I could afford a Raptor, it would without a doubt be the truck in my garage.

For my money, given the choices you have provided, I would go with the Raptor. It's the real deal.

This question is a combination of a few very recent hot topics! You may find some useful information on them. Purchase price doesn't seem to be a concern, you are bored, and you don't use a truck for heavy hauling. You already own(?) a premium truck which you were getting ready to modify. A 6" lift to your current truck would certainly take away the boredom for awhile! If I was bored and not worried about cost, I would keep my truck the way it is and buy a project car or truck to modify!

I can't help but laugh every time guys on a site called Gm-trucks tell others to buy a Ford or Dodge over a GM. Have you no shame! Lol

Both ran 14.1 with that Raptor getting to 60 at 5.3 and the GM at 5.4.....thats a short walk.

I wonder how fast the new Colorado is with the new 3.6 compared to these trucks. I'm thinking about going back down to a Colorado next time

You are trading an old truck for a new old truck that will look the same inside. Wait until the refreshed GM truck hits the lots.

5.4 was 6.2/6 speed combo. Best ive yet to see with 8 speed was 5.6, personally only done 5.8. Also I've already seen a couple mags showing raptor at 5.1. Dont get me wrong, both extremely quick but no denying 510 ft lbs.

3 yrs down the road the GM will be worth 27k, the raptor I would have no doubt will still bring in 40k. However you will most likely end up paying quite a bit more for the raptor. MSRP vs. 10k+ off for a GM.

Pulled them both from road and track....guess I have a different definition of walk. Raptor is sweet though, if I could fit one in my garage I might own one myself. Thats alot of moving parts on those new Ford motors though.

Initially i thought wanted more of a understated or blacked out sleeper look.but i looked at and bought a 17 pearl white and chrome LTZ with 6.2. That pearl paint and chrome just glows with attitude ...awesome!

2 points got me in a Chevy... I looked at Ford but just can get past the tin can body panels ...just take your finger and press on one. And those twin turbo motors just seem wayyy too complex and lots of part$$$ to break in the longer term. I think a big Chevy V8 with slightly less power will cost less to maintain. Cant know that for sure but Old School gut tells me so. My old 2002 F150 with ~200k trouble free miles is now all lonely outside waiting for its new home.

Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.
    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
