Chevy Shake- Random fix

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 Silverado z-71 Crew Cab. Purchased around Jan. 1 and have been dealing with significant vibrations/rattling. I have had the truck in 'auto' mode rather than 2 wheel drive....today I switched it to 2 wheel drive and the vibrations went away completely on a 50 mile drive home. Like a different truck. I went up o 90 mph with very little vibes of any kind..

Any idea why this would be? I know the front axle is used in auto mode...only reasoning I can think of?

:banghead: You are in GA, why are you in 4wd? First 4wd pickup?

Dealer told me to leave in Auto. I thought they might know something I didn't.

Well I'm one of those people who allways run in 2wd, if I need 4WD I'll make the switch, I have no need or care to even have the auto option. But with that said you should have no vibrations in auto mode what so ever, it should run the same as in 2wd unless you encounter wheel slippage; then you may feel it engage or feel a difference. So there may be something wrong with your transfer case; I know they have had multiple updates for the transfer case; hopefully that's all you need. If it is constantly different in auto vs 2wd, and you can replicate this for the dealer, they should be willing to try some kind of repair or update for you; assuming you're still in warranty. But don't let them tell you that is normal because it definitely is not. Again, I don't run my truck in auto but I have turned it on before and there is no difference between auto and 2wd even at speeds of 70mph in my truck; both modes run smooth as glass. Good luck.

You definitely need to take your truck in for service. When you do, ask why they recommend leaving it in Auto. I am interested in hearing what they say.

Thanks. I tested again today and the truck is totally different in auto mode. Very happy to know it isn't the chevy shake issue for me.

I'm taking it in next week and I'll report back what they find.

That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard. I'm all for being prepared, but that's just massive overkill. If you'll need auto 4x4, you'll know.

Guy's I also have a 2016 Silverado Crew 4X4 LTZ took it into the local dealer over 10 times!! Finally they sent a senior tech along. He informed me that this is a ever growing issue. They force balanced my tires replaced two and also changed one rim. the solid chrome Chevy 20" I noticed have major weights on them, it reduced the vibe a bit but still B.S this isn't funny, 60K invested

I have a Lemon Law lawyer who served them today!! they rep you free!! Guys we have to make more noise!!! I am willing to get this group of lawyers to consider a class action, lets include JD Powers total crap on most reliable!!

The squeaky wheel will get attention, just have to get real guys, and I have read all the comments, all the B.S about Ford and Toyota who cares we have Chevy's THEY NEED TO FIX not 600 plus pages of theories

I live in the West and often run in AWD in the winter and even at high speed there is no difference except maybe a slight reduction in mileage.

I've been running my 07 avy in auto awd during the winter months for years. I have noticed no ill effects up to 96 mph hwy as far as vibration. Recently I had a set of Yukon Gear 4.10 gears installed, and now I can hear the front gear set whine at 20 - 0 coast, still no vibration. When in auto, the passenger side axle disconnect is activated so that the front driveshaft is spinning ready at a millisecond to take power from the clutches if the rear wheel speed exceeds the front by a small margin. I am considering going HD, and will have to give up the auto-trac system, it will be missed because it has served its purpose quite well. Look for an out of balance front driveshaft, that is the only thing that changes (static to dynamic) when auto awd is selected.

My dealer told me the opposite. Use either 2WD or 4WD.

To be truthful, I've never had my truck out of 2WD even in the snow and ice.

JYM K I am new to this site and to Chevy 1500. Bought a new 17 Silverdo... and it shakes like a MF at 67-78.... The dealership has this figured out. We test drove on city streets, etc...b/c they had it so low on fuel the light was on. The rep recommend staying close to the dealership b/c of the fuel issue... etc. It's my bad as I should of over the road tested... but it is what it is...

Any info on the Lemon Lawyer greatly appreciate.
