4x4Pete Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Is there a way to replace it with a screw type cap? My '16 is flex and has a yellow screw cap. It seems really stupid that they changed the cap. What happens when the cap leaks a bit and you get the loose gas cap engine light and code?
6.2Midnight Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Anyone have someone they know at a dealership that can find out what parts we need to go back to a cap system? I've been looking around, but don't know exactly which parts we would need to do it. http://www.gmpartspros.net/auto-parts/2016/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/6-2l-v8-gas-engine/fuel-system-cat/fuel-system-components-scat/?part_number=22921366
John Dell Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 GM must want us all to go for "plugged fuel filter" service often. And I'm sure the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. So $1000 later?
austingta Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 What? My 2016 HD 2500 Duramax has a normal cap with tether. Is this on a gas truck? My 2015 F150 did have a capless filler, but it didnt bother me.
6.2Midnight Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Yes, gas truck. For security reasons, this is the cheaper route instead of a lock gas door...
Krusty Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 One week of ownership and filled it today when the low fuel warning popped up. The cap-less fill worked fine - it's like not knowing you are pumping gas. I do have it covered with this dust cap to keep things clean and dry:http://www.ebay.com/itm/WATER-DUST-GAS-CAP-COVER-2017-CHEVROLET-SILVERADO-GMC-SIERRA-CAPLESS-FUEL-FILL-/382009468868?hash=item58f189e7c4:g:Ag0AAOSwXYtYzzeq&vxp=mtr
revrnd Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Well, I think I've found an easy solution, a 2" test cap: Not quite as snug as my homemade 1, but I don't think it'll fly off in use. I got this @ a Canadian hardware chain, but should be readily available @ Home Despot, Lowe's or any other American outlet.
John Dell Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Looks like a Bearing Buddy cover. I bought one before looking at it as close as you. It is a bearing cover. It looks like it will work.
jpinoy Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I had a buddy of mine make this for me with his CNC. Came out pretty good I think.
6.2Midnight Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 looks great, what is the honey looking substance on the inside?
jpinoy Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 looks great, what is the honey looking substance on the inside?that's just the lighting hitting the swirl marks from the machining. Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
