Regular Cab Comfortability????

Over the years I have had several reg cab short box trucks and have never had any issues with them. But many have brought up good points above. As long as you have another car or truck that can seat 4 you will have no issues. They are rougher riding than a crew. And as some have said you can only go SLE or LT. So no factory leather, will have to get Katskins installed, they just don't offer the options in the reg cabs.

 

Kind of nice if you are going out for the evening with another couple that you can drive, And if you take on trips you will need a tonneau for sure to keep things out of the weather.

 

I have drove a reg cab back and forth from Alberta to Mesa Az. several times and have never had troubles with space.

Love my regular cab. They look great lowered, and with a power adder will perform beyond expectations. Say goodbye to sports cars and hello to sport trucks.

 

Very comfortable, decent on gas, quicker than the 4 door equivalent. Only downside is you're limited in trim levels and cannot get the 6.2

Personally I like the look of the regular cab Z-71 trucks. Have not driven any but did sit in one at the dealership some time back. I am 6 foot pushing 300 pounds and fit fine. Previous posters are correct make sure you don't regret not purchasing a larger Double or Crew Cab. If it weren't for my dog I would probably have a regular cab. Would look pretty silly with him riding shotgun and the GF would not be amused.

With the incentives GM offers on the double cabs, you may get more for your money with a DC than a regular cab. Just a thought.

Hey guys! Looking very seriously into getting a regular cab 2017 Silverado or Sierra. Only thing stopping me at this point is either going regular cab or crew cab. For the past 3 years ive daily driven nothing but 2 seat V8 sports cars so i dont need the extra space but im sure itll be nice. Im engaged with no kids, hence the fact i dont really need the extra space. I guess the biggest thing for me is how comfortable are the regular cab for daily driving and driving very long distances every once in a while?? Its my main concern at this point

A motivating factor is often money. At one time there was a cost advantage to regular cabs. Your choice now is an issue of personal preference. Which direction are you leaning?

I'm 20, single and no kids for me for at least until I'm done paying off the truck (5 years) and my regular cab is all I need at the moment. I'm 6'5" and on the heavier side and I fit fine. I'm also from California and regular cabs hold their value pretty good around here where I live, that's why I decided to buy new instead of used. Used newer regular cab Silverado/Sierra here cost the same as what I paid for my 16 Silverado regular cab.

Traded in the 2005 Silverado crew cab I bought new in January 2005 for my 2016 regular cab short bed in October last year. Loving it !

 

I don't need the extra capacity. Same displacement (5.3 L V-8) in both trucks but direct injection and lighter weight makes the 2016 noticeably quicker. I'm close to 10,000 miles on the odometer and averaging 5 MPG better than the 2005 on the daily commute. 3.42 gears and stock 17" tires. The tighter turning radius comes in handy.

 

Longest trip so far had me in the saddle for 3.5 hours with no complaints. This truck at 75 MPH will go over 500 miles on a tank of gas. My bladder capacity is less.

 

Reading this forum it is obvious that wheel size and sidewall height affect the ride of all of the trucks from regular cab to crew cab. I'm going to stick with 17's with decent sidewalls.

 

I'm old enough to have driven many regular cab trucks in the 70's and 80's. Those trucks rode like covered wagons and crow hopped like mad on bumpy roads. These newer trucks are a good deal more civilized.

Wheelbase not civilization or tires is the primary determinant of ride....that's the difference between the ride in an Impala compared to a Cruse and why a Cruse rides better compared to a Spark.

 

If you travel in hilly terrain or bumpy roads wheel size and sidewall height ; regular, double or crew cab alone matters less than wheelbase. A double cab with a regular bed has an identical wheelbase with a crewcab with a shortbed and all other factors being similar will provide an equivalent ride, (and a crewcab with regular bed and longer wheelbase a marginally better ride with increased ability to span dips and hills). But a regular cab, even with a long bed, has a wheelbase almost a foot shorter will provide a ride inferior ride to both. And a regular cab with shortbed and a full two foot shorter wheelbase the worst ride of all......thankfully no room for rear passengers otherwise money saved on gas would be spent on covered wagon type barf bags.

I don't know what else you guys a driving but my '17 Regular cab Silverado Z71 rides like a Cadillac compared to my 5 other cars.

Thanks quank and Nasty ! Glad to have some support from guys that actually own and drive RCSB trucks !

 

Jonnathan, I recommend you test drive each of the configurations and get a feel for each of them. Suspension really has improved in 40 years despite what some my say. Even the Rancho shocks I ran in the 70's are a tad better today than they were then.

 

Coming from a 2 door sports car you might like the quick steering and shorter turning radius of the RCSB. Then again you may find you like the added interior room and seating capacity of the Crew Cab. Make sure to take it off of the test drive loop and on some not so nice roads. Take some time to compare them before you plunk down the cash.

Just went through this picking out my new truck.

 

My kids are grown and living on there own now so I don't need a full back seat anymore. Considered a reg cab but went with the double so I would still have room to carry gear and guns securely when I go camping and shooting but still have a big enough bed to haul a dirt bike or snowmobile. On a few shooting trips I have put 3 guys in the back and they fit fine. I would not want to sit back there for more then 2 hours but for trips up to that it seems fine. No complaints. And these guy love to complain LOL. The crew cab is big and has tons of room inside but the bed is too small for my needs. Also personal taste here, it does not look right. No disrespect to anyone who has one of course. Just the Reg and Double look more like a truck to me. The Crew cabs look like nice SUVs with a truck bed.

If I were you I would try a double cab before buying but in the end get what is right for you. Have fun with your new truck. Let us know what you get.

Everything is relative. Further you go approaching the river, the roads in my area go from asphalt, to gravel, to crush and run, to dirt. And my '16 double cab with leather seating does provide the comfortable ride of a heavy vehicle with a lot of "road feel" like an older full size '60s Chrysler. Better than my old '78 Blazer, much better than my former '15 Camaro with cloth seats, and roughly equivalent to my current Malibu with cloth seats. But it handles and rides like a piece of $hit when compared to my '15 AWD V6 Traverse w/leather and a pile of $hit when compared to my '17 VV6 Impala w/leather! And they all ride like crap including my old '90 Fleetwood compared to the ride in my old '74 454 Impala Custom.......the finest 4 mpg vehicle that ever rolled out of Detroit.

If you are getting married, you may regret the short cab if you have kids. My last truck had an extended cab, which was great for me. Child seats are huge and would not fit. This resulted in me buying a crew cab. I love driving my kids around in the truck, and my kids love being in the truck.

 

BTW, a Camaro or Corvette is more like an extended cab than a single cab because you can recline the seat. A single cab truck will not have as much adjustability as a sports car.
