Regular Cab Comfortability????

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Looking very seriously into getting a regular cab 2017 Silverado or Sierra. Only thing stopping me at this point is either going regular cab or crew cab. For the past 3 years ive daily driven nothing but 2 seat V8 sports cars so i dont need the extra space but im sure itll be nice. Im engaged with no kids, hence the fact i dont really need the extra space. I guess the biggest thing for me is how comfortable are the regular cab for daily driving and driving very long distances every once in a while?? Its my main concern at this point

When I was looking at trucks I was thinking regular cab as well. I have no need for the extra space.

I bought the crew cab because there's a ton of room back there and the entire truck feels like a truck. Been into a few double cabs and they are way too cramped IMO. I really enjoy the crew cab and find it great to drive.

I'm pretty sure they have the same seats. The only difference being center console on some models versus jump seat on the regular cabs.

Honestly, if I didn't have grandkids and could've gotten the 6.2l in a regular cab, that's what I would be driving right now. 95% of the time I'm driving alone or with the wife but when we get to keep the girls, I need the room.

I'm 6' 1" 230. I fit perfectly. I have a buddy that's same height but about 350 with one as well. As long as you aren't to much taller it's great.

Regular cab is the same from the back of the seat forward. It will be fine. Besides coming from a sports car you might evolve into a sports truck.

Go for the Regular Cab. Wicked comfortable

And you won't have the same truck as everyone else

Just purchased a New Reg Cab Silverado 45 days ago, I'm 6'1" and the seat is still a few notches from the back, same travel as a Crew Cab besides not leaning the seat back to sleeping position.

I came from driving crew cab Silverados for the last 7 years, always had Reg Cabs before the Crew Cabs, but married a lady with 3 boys so I needed the space, well the 3 boys and my daughter are pretty much grown, so just I went back to Reg Cab and could not be happier.

The seats are the same seats as the Crew Cabs with matching trim levels, Remember, Besides the extended frame a doors added, Reg Cabs have the same Frame, suspension, cab, engines, trans, bed, and approx same payloads, towing. It's just missing 2 doors and some luxury options., And you can't get the 6.2.

One advantage I find to a larger cab is the ability to recline the front seats. A crew or double cab also adds convenient secure stowage. However, a regular cab will feel spacious after a two seater sports car! Welcome to this forum!

Traded in the 2005 Silverado crew cab I bought new in January 2005 for my 2016 regular cab short bed in October last year. Loving it !

I don't need the extra capacity. Same displacement (5.3 L V-8) in both trucks but direct injection and lighter weight makes the 2016 noticeably quicker. I'm close to 10,000 miles on the odometer and averaging 5 MPG better than the 2005 on the daily commute. 3.42 gears and stock 17" tires. The tighter turning radius comes in handy.

Longest trip so far had me in the saddle for 3.5 hours with no complaints. This truck at 75 MPH will go over 500 miles on a tank of gas. My bladder capacity is less.

Reading this forum it is obvious that wheel size and sidewall height affect the ride of all of the trucks from regular cab to crew cab. I'm going to stick with 17's with decent sidewalls.

I'm old enough to have driven many regular cab trucks in the 70's and 80's. Those trucks rode like covered wagons and crow hopped like mad on bumpy roads. These newer trucks are a good deal more civilized.

I suspect that the lighter weight and the standard 8 ft box on 70's and 80's trucks impacted the feeling of your older trucks. I know that putting a little weight in the back used to improve the ride considerably! I don't believe the improvements in suspension over the past 40 years quite warrant a comparison to covered wagons :- ) ! For me, the tremendous improvements in efficiency of the newer pickups makes them a practical commuter and daily driver. I have always preferred a pickup because of their "big car" ride. However fuel consumption often relegated my pickup to "second vehicle" status! Now the car gets dusty and is seldom used. The truck is the main vehicle and I don't feel guilty when I hit the pumps!

Double cab is the best alternative and cheaper so you can add more accessories. Engaged with no kids can soon lead to a threesome before the bumper to bumper expires; and a double gives enough room for a car seat so you won't have to trade for a minivan. Even if there's no child in the future it's a choice between having the groceries sheltered in under the back seat storage or under a tarp rolling in the bed.

And a double cab rear seating while being the perfect size for carting around a young children is uncomfortable enough for adults so you are not bothered trucking around Moe, Larry and Curly relatives!
