Dealer trying to get me to trade...

My trucks in the shop. Issue with the brakes and looking (again) at transmission. 27000 miles. Bought last June. Do have a note on this one. Owe $26500.

Dealer has '16 High Country. Autumn Brown (very close to my Iridium, which I like). 27000 mikes. After trade, I'd have to pay (finance @1.99) $34356.

Beautiful truck. Has this that my GMC doesn't: 6.2, retractable running boards, cooled seats, power rear window, hard tonneau painted to match, Bedrug.

Dang I'm tempted, but don't WANT to spend the money. I drove it though, the 6.2 is indeed sweet and different than my 5.3 (which is really fine). I don't care about the running boards or the cooled seats.

Didn't I just post something about "first world problems"? Don't I occasionally post fiscally conservative advice to others that are considering irrational trades/purchases?

I guess I need to wait to hear what the service Mgr says about my Sierra. But the devil is on my shoulder, whispering...

Just had a new update on my 16 6.2 high country tranny. My service manager said he just got back from some special training on the clunky shifting tranny. He said the update is to program with a new tune and do a 30 mile drive cycle. It seems to be much better.

THAT is awesome!!!

Is the 8 speed in the 6.2 the same as the 8 speed they put in the 5.3's?

So Basically 8 grand for the 6.2 and a couple of options... I would say not worth it

Mudkatt is right. But qwank (and my wife) are righter.

I have the SLT with the LED headlights, Bose, trailer brake controller and all the Z71 stuff. It's pretty loaded but not LOADED, LOADED.

For the price delta - not getting newer or less miles - I think I have to decline.

What the hell is wrong with me?

If it was only a couple thousand, which is the price of 6.2 then I would say go for it, but it seems to be a little too much, plus you don't know if the truck will be a vibrator or have other problems.

The odometers may read the same on both trucks but you know the history on your truck. I personally would even hesitate on a no cost trade!

Might sound like a good deal, but the fact that it's "pre-owned" I am hesitant on. Yes, I have bought pre-owned vehicles before, but I always feel better when it's new as I know what has been done to it. Not that it means it won't have any issues... It's probably all in my head. Sure it has some more options but is it worth it?

See what kind of numbers they can come up on a 17 HC for reference. Not likely, but could be a better deal overall. The 18's are coming soon, so the 17's need to move.

Let me make this simple....do not trade trucks, your truck is all that you need.

Warranty is 2/3 used up on both of them.

You know how your truck has been treated and any issues that have shown up. You have no idea how the other truck was treated.

Once you pay your truck off, sell it outright and go buy a new one from Laura GMC. You will save a ton of money.

Even if it was a square deal, don't do it. Getting rid of one because it has common issues to get the same truck which probably has the same issues doesn't make sense. Paying money to do it makes even less sense.

That new truck was probably a lease turn in, in which case it didn't originate at the dealer. Lease turn ins are GM property and go to wholesale, they are not the dealer's property to resell.

Always look at it this way too: why in the hell would someone be turning in a 27k mike truck unless it had problems? If they turned it because they didn't like it, it was most likely due to the same problems and issues that litter the internet.

I'm so glad I have never had the vehicle bug. Buy another one, mod this etc. A vehicle is a tool that just depreciates, my goal is to control cost. :happysad:

I almost took the bait! I think most of us have faced situations like the op's. It can be a tough decision but I think he is getting some good advice. I will be interested in hearing what he decides! Ultimately it is his decision and his choice will be the right one for him!
