hey was wondering if anyone know much about getting  rid of the v4 in the newer trucks i would like to remove it from my 2017 just not sure how to go about it

The Range AFM disabler defeats the V4 mode, but lots of people get codes running it and it also has a parasitic drain on your battery if you dont drive your truck every day.

Another option(for in town at least) is to drive in manual mode and limit the highest gear to 7th. That will defear the AFM.

I know the V4 mode upsets a lot of forum members because they bought and want all 8 at the ready.  If you know you are in V4 for any other reason than the indicator on the dash, then take your truck in for service.  My past two AFM GM's have had seamless and immediate transitions in and out of V4 mode.  Cylinder on demand technology is only going to get more prevalent in our trucks which I believe to be a good thing.  When it got dark at night my father would turn on almost every light inside and outside of his house.   He would comment if we turned the light out after leaving the bathroom.  He wasn't afraid of the dark but his home was his castle and he was very proud of its elegance. Lighting up an empty room makes as much sense to me as continuously firing unneeded cylinders.

I am the guy that drives with the AC on windows down in Summer or Heat on and Windows down in winter....Why because I can, I like it and I don't care what you think.  I am proud of your POPS!

I've been running the Range in my 2017 with no problems so far. The newer firmware update (8.6+) was supposed to eliminate the battery drain in sleep mode.

Cylinder deactivation is here to stay.

Only way they can meet gov. standards.

On flat terrain, no wind the V4  mode is useful I guess.

Living in the mountains it's pretty much useless.

I was also proud of my Dad,  except for his level of environmental awareness.  However, my light analogy was not intended to be a comment on this topic and I know better than to enter into such a debate on this forum. :-)  I apologize if you understood this to be anymore than my effort to illustrate the mechanical significance of always having eight cylinders operating.

Look into the Diablosport Intune i3 programmer.  It's fanastic.  It does more than just disabling the v4 mode.

Range Device or tune are your choices. If your worried about retaining warranty go with the Range if not look at canned tuners or a custom tune from Blackbear, Diablew, or a local shop. If going with a tuner/tune decide what if any mods and fuel (premium, 87, E85 you’ll do in the future as it/they can accommodate them. ie. larger tires a tuner/tune can recalibrate the speedo, E85 cheap hp, etc.

AFM is typically a fuel saver on the 2014+ models, so we would only suggest disabling it if you have heavy wheels/tires or can't tolerate the sound with your exhaust.

I used a Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 Power Programmer to turn AFM off.  Drives and shifts better and uses less oil.  Couldn't really tell any difference in fuel mileage, either--about the same effect as removing the front air dam.

thanks for all the help I will prolly go with a runner so it can also help to fix the Speedo for my tiers and the tranny  sance I am going to 37s
