looks wise, aren't we all in love with what we saw when we were kids?

For me its square body or GMT400. Nothing built in the last 20 years has looked as good to me.

technology keeps improving, some bugs will always be found. I have never been into the new flashy features, so there's not much draw to the brand new vehicles. Wait till the 5th service bulletin/ recall just like the 14-15's had.

I used to think the gmt800s, but a clean 400 with the right paint scheme, oh man those are nice.

The last new truck for me was a 14 Texas Edition GMC. I have to give it credit for quite cab, fuel economy, and power. For the winner as far as longevity and near perfection my 04 GMC Z71, with my 01 near tided. The 14 could easily have won it weren’t for cylinder deactivation and weak drive shaft.

I can't judge my 2017 yet... at 27k miles it's been flawless, but it's too early to tell. If it ends up as reliable and as problem free as my 2008 Tacoma was, I'll be happy.

At 185k, all I did was regular maintenance, tires, brakes, muffler and a $150 steering shaft. Pretty good for 10 years of ownership.

GMT800.  I crashed my 05 1500hd sierra a couple weeks ago... jumped an approach and it bent the frame in front of the cab a bit and wrecked the forward sheet metal.  It has over 200000 miles... getting pretty rotten.... but... I'm fixing it.  Didn't report the accident or claim insurance on it as it would have been just written off and I don't feel like fighting with them on buying it back and the salvage title.  It's going to cost me more than the truck is worth to fix... I don't care.  Will be on the road again in the early new year and hits the frame rack over Christmas while the body shop is technically closed. Its easily the best vehicle I have ever owned.. and will continue to be that.

I could let it go and just drive the 2017... buy another one... nope.  I might buy a 6.2 GMT900 to bag anyway but I am not letting that 05 go.  Not happening.  I prefer my 05 over my 17... or any of my other non gmt800 trucks I have or have had.  It's why the biggest dollar project I have done automotive wise approaching 6 figures in cost is.... another 2004 GMT800 like my 05 lol.

My 96 GMC Z71 was a great truck

My 2000 GMC Z71 was good except for the 5.3 piston slap....

My 2009 Chevy Silverado Z71, the 5.3 had to be rebuilt at 40k... it drank 2 qts of oil every 700 miles. The rebuild was covered under warranty.

My 2014 GMC AT 5.3 was a nice truck with the exception of all the tsb’s, recalls and seat issues.

My 2016 GMC AT 6.2 has been a great truck, probably the best I have owned! No problems!

The old carb'd GM's were the easiest to own, anyone can work on them. The Vortec trucks were also very reliable and somewhat mechanic friendly. The GMT800 HD's were great, but not so much the 1/2 tons and the 2007.5-2013 were the most reliable trucks Chevy ever made. The K2 is the best looking truck since the late 50's/ early 60's "Apache", but the worst in terms on long term quality. The T1? I would expect similar reliability as the K2, which is not great.

I think each generation gets better.  I own a '81 C10 square, 2006 1500 GMT800, a couple of 1500 GMT900, and am looking forward to a T1XX.  Lots of improvements each generation.  Driveability on a daily driver is important to me.

I think my 06 Silverado was the best vehicle I ever owned. I really like my 15 Sierra z71. The 5.3 in my 15 flat runs way better then my o6 5.3. I do think the 06 was built a lot beefier. Time will tell on my 15 so far it's been good no major issues at 41,000 miles. Now I will say my friend bought a 2019 loaded at4 with the 6.2 and DANM it's nice!!

My opinion is weird. 67-72 Chevy is the best looking truck ever made to me but my favorite truck is the 73-87 cause that’s what everyone had when I was little. I was born in ‘84 so they were already on their way out by the time I was old enough to know what I was looking at but people didn’t dump cars and trucks so fast back then so they were still around. Not a fan of the 400s at all though even though they were “childhood era” too.

I've owned at least one truck from each of the last 4 generations of GMC 1500.  All things considered, the '14-'18 is definately the best all around vehicle imo.  The '19 is not for me, I firmly believe in time, the '19 will be viewed as a step backwards from an overall quality aspect (still a good truck, but not quite as good as its predecessor).

Mechanic friends of mine seem to agree that the 99-07 models were built very well and are largely bulletproof.

But I’ve never owned one so no first-hand experience.

Lol as long as you didnt mind your 5.3 engine sounding like a box of rocks when started, piston slap was very prevalent on nearly every model made during the 99-03 years. I had an 05 and was a good truck but my 14 has seen the dealer less than the 05 did at this same point and time. My 95 s10 zr2 was at the dealer near every week, i think i spent 10 grand on ball joints and idler arms during my 9 years of owning it.

Gee, let me think for a moment on how to word my response for a family-friendly audience:

Not only "No" but "HELL TO THE NO!"

The new generation looks like it was designed by separate committees, comprised of blind idiots who phoned it in and left early), none of which were allowed to work together on anything.

:puke:

GM spends all of its efforts saying "Hey, look at this shiny new feature over here!' (that most people don't care about, like a complex new 12-way folding tailgate in response to Ford's simple step) to try to keep us from focusing on the fact that they never have fixed all of the problems from the past (like the 8 speed transmissions and AFM problems) [hey, let's rename AFM and make it much more complex . . . dealers can't fix the last generation, but it'll take buyers 2-3 years to find out the all-new system has the same old problems], all the while hoping that we don't notice the decontenting of items on all but the lowest-priced models (which themselves are now $45-50K+ now!).  Not to mention their interiors are by far the worst in the industry.  Overheard at the dealer:  "Uhhh, you don't like the inside, have you looked at the front?  Uhhh, you don't like the front, have you looked at the rear?  Uhhh, you don't like the rear, did you notice we rounded off one corner of the wheel wells? Uhhh, you think that looks silly, did you notice that we moved the mirrors down the doors and took the low range out of your 4x4 transfer case, and that the new models get worse fuel mileage than last year?"
