Oil drain plug size

Well I’ve never listened to men,and glad I didn’t. My 2017 Silverado 1500 4.3 V6 has a 15mm (head size) drain plug. Not a 12mm as everyone seems to think. Rat bastards also upped oil capacity to 6 qts-so you gotta buy a 5qt plus another quart.You’re better off buying 2- 5 quart jugs for the money. Speaking of JUGS...if mine were any bigger I wouldn’t be able to slide under truck!

Lol!.. Not sure what to do with that info on the jugs ?.. However yes the 2014-18 4.3l takes 6 quarts, 8 quarts for the V8's.

A women who does her own servicing on her truck, I am truly impressed and if you have a significant other what a lucky person. If not, you single,...LOL. Don't always believe us know it all backyard mechanics type guys or even some dumb ass parts guys, always check reliable sources for proper info and double check.

I am still tempted to get one of those quick drains. I just like the magnetic tip bolt.

DIY oil I like a good 7quarts to start with then a week later I get back to it and at 1/2 quart additives when another week later 1/2 quart. Then pray it all stays in the engine.

No idea why anyone would say the drain plug was 12mm. GM has used 15mm since I started working on cars almost 20 years ago. The new engines all hold more oil. The V8 holds 8 when they were 6 quarts for ages.

Yeah I know. Just googled size and most posts were stating 12mm? I have an equinox which was 15mm too-and of course the book doesn’t give you specs ,just capacities. I’ve been working on cars since I was about 15-so 45 years of experience. This old broad is still wrenchin’ ! Thanks for the post !

My 2004 grand am v-6 has a 13 mm oil plug. There's all kinds of kinds.
