Can anyone please identify this transmission!

Hey Guys,

 

I have this transmission that I found in my backyard of my landlords house and was wondering if you guys could tell me anything about it! Thanks. 

 

It also says M97 on the side and GM 14 stamped!

It's definitely something this century - doesn't match up to anything in my records. Gotta be a newfangled 6, or more, speed. 6L80 maybe? You've got a transfer case there too - that should have a round tag on it with it's own ID - either New Process or Magna Powertrain built.

The case and sump pan on a 6L80/90 don't look like that.

 

Through some google and the wiki I found out it's a 4L30e that came in euro vehicles and things like the Isuzu cab over trucks. You can see that the case design is the same as pictured above, just a different bell housing adapter.

Well that explains why I didn't know wtf it was!   

 

Only Euro stuff I'm familiar with is Volvo, only because I own one.

Based on the GM part number on the tag and bell housing, it is out of a GEO Tracker or Suzuki Sidekick.

Should be TH180 or 3L30. The 4L30-E replaced the Th180/3L30 in the 90’s.

It seems to be a manual trans though. The TH180 and 3L30 were all automatics yeah?

That's definitely an automatic - can tell by the rounded body, and it has a pan.

It has a vacuum modulator. How old is this thing?

I didn't see one in the OP's pic - that one is definitely 21st Century, no question. 

 

EDIT: Ahh, now I see it - 2nd pic. Strange, because it's got a wiring  harness up top, and the body looks '96 up. Maybe a foreign job?

Maybe because I'm old or not so bright so I'll ask the obvious question, OP, did you ask your landlord if they knew what that trans/transfer case laying in that pile of rubble came out of?

Yeah he had no idea therefore I came here. Thanks everyone for the advice!
