Trying to determine what is the "normal" max A/C temperature for a given temperature range. In my car, the AC blows at 33.4* when ambient temperature is 76*. The truck blows just a hair over 44* in same ambient temperature, same location, same time, both in the shade. 

 

Method of testing: vent speed on low, side vents turned off (test from center console vents), temperature set to "lo" on both dials, recirculation enabled, vent direction on face only. I tested with a digital, instant thermometer rested in the vent for 10 minutes and recorded the lowest temperature and average temperature. I also turn it up to 75 and back down to lo to rule out possibility of a sticking mixture vent. 

 

The truck seems like it can never fully cool and it appears the ac is just slightly out of spec. 

 

The attached photo is a performance temperature chart for a Honda Accord but should more or less be the standard. The car met the standard, but the truck is on the "high end" of normal.

Did you check the pressure on the low side port?  Should be less 37 PSI.  If its less than 30, then you are just running a little low. 

 

Recently had to put AC stop leak in my truck and then backfill with refrigerant.  My truck was down to 23 psi unfortunately.  Going on two weeks now so it seems the stop leak is working.

Nope, I was planning locacting the leak if the stop leak additive did not work, but so far there hasn't been any noticeable drop in pressure. I assume the leak is in the line which others in here have had issues with.

My compressor experienced catastrophic failure around 38k and had it replaced with one from NAPA that had a 2 year warranty. So far all had been good minus the recent leak.

Personally I always stay away from the stop leak stuff. Now, I would definitely check the condenser for a leak and if you dont have the bracket installed on the line I would make sure you do not have a leak from there also.

hi, a newbie from Montreal! :)

oh, understand you, man. A friend of mine had the similar problem. We decided to fix it by ourselves but, honestly, you'll get more worries than answers. In those searches I got definitely confused and my head was about to explode, really. It would be much more faster to replace your whole AC:)

with auto temp control it will only cool down to 42, on trucks with manual controls you can get it down to 38, and that is only if the system is running perfect

AC system is complicated. Test this out, while idel, spray water to your condenser from the front of your truck and see if the temperature drops lower. If it does then your fan motor is not spinning like it should or there's a clog in your condenser.

Look, you should contact professionals. This problem requires qualitative service bc it has a lot of nuances that must be considered. Once I've had the similar problem, when the AC vents in my BMW M5 didn't work. I spent hours every day in my car suffering from unbearable heat. Thanks God, I came across these guys, who did the high-quality work in a very affordable price:) That is always like a hell to me, when air conditioning is out of service. The same situation happened to me when i moved to Singapore. I almost fainted when I spent a couple of hours in a stuffy room without conditioning.     • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
