Hello,

Back in july I bought my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE, I have the same issue as you, its going in Tuesday for them to "look at it". But I can guarantee ill get the same run around. It is very disappointing thinking it was going to be a good truck since my 1995 Yukon 5.7 is going strong still.

Let us know how you make out. There have been a few people that actually got the dealer to replace the lifters but it didn't fix the noise.

What's the latest updates from you all on this issue? Been about 3 weeks with no responses. Be interesting to see if anything's being done from a bleacher perspective as I only have a 04 Tahoe with a 4.8 that started doing it when cold but I just think mine is the exhaust manifold gasket getting worse. 3yrs and going with a broken drivers side rearmost bolt.

The Issue we are referring to is listed in the bulletin as 2018, 2019 5.3, & 6.2L V8s.  But to answer your question GM has done nothing and it has become a legal matter that my attorney has advised me not to talk about on social media or at all really.

I leased this truck( with intentions to buy it at the end as long as it wasn't a turd). The current buyout from GM is around 39k. Trade in would be low 30s I would assume. I cant really afford a 10k hit right now.  My last 16 was a shaking turd. I should have learned my lesson but all other brands just don't do it for me. Should have bought a Toyota.

Best made tanks on the road, and Ive worked for Ford, Ram, GM and yota.

I am surprised no one has had this issue on here yet.  I guess if you just hop in a drive and don't listen to it warm up outside the truck people may not hear it.

Here's mine more of a tick brand new sierra, but only notice the sound if it's in the garage

That noise is normal most of these trucks do that. my 16 and my 19 do. My noise is more of a loud knocking for the first 10 mins of cold start up

Had a similar tick from my 2019 Silverado RST with 2.7L 4 cyl. with 8 speed transmission. Noise as the engine came off cold idle. Then it progressed to ticking while accelerating from a stop. First the dealer said lifters, then said the flex plate (flywheel) was bad. Replaced it but noise was still there. Spent 3 weeks working with a factory tech, even reprogramming the computer. With no luck. Then the transmission tech noticed the service bulletin for the flex plate (19-NA-154) also mentioned the starter. When he pulled it he could hear loose parts rattling around. Replaced it and all is quiet, so far. And it only took 8 weeks to realize the starter was bad.

Mine makes the exact noise but quieter. Very strange and definitely not normal. I have 10k miles on my truck and just noticed it a few weeks ago as the mornings got colder. Based on my experience working on engines, this sounds dangerously close to light rod knock and/or piston slap. Disappoints me that I spent 40k on a truck that has this issue without even owning it for a year. Will definitely take it in to get it looked at and hopefully fixed ASAP under warranty. I would encourage anyone else with this issue to do the same immediately to bring this to GMs attention and at the very least have it on paper that your truck has this issue.

There is no fix for it. If the knocking noise goes away after 10 minutes of idling GM wont do anything. At about 12k miles my truck started to idle noticeably rougher(felt like a misfire). Again Gm wouldn't do anything to fix it. I ended up lemon lawing the truck. Gm was THE worse company I have ever dealt with. Get rid of it while you can if your motor sounds anything like mine. Its just going to get worse.

If you need a good lemon lawyer in CT shoot me a PM. I'm also a fellow motocross rider!

Very disappointing. iv owned 3 other Silverados before this one, all had well over 200k and were still running great. Really crappy situation because I really like the truck. I'm going to bring it in to the dealership to have them look at it and see what they say, but chances are they'll tell me to wait for GM to come out with a fix, which they wont, itll blow right when my warranty expires and then they'll be happy to fix it. I should've just bought a new Tacoma?

Boring but bulletproof and reliable so you can actually enjoy life.  Plus the Toyotas have the highest resale value on the market.

GM truck owners are going to be left with a giant money pit once the warranty expires.

Bulletproof?  No.  They have their issues.   Plenty of disappointed crapota owners out there. I'm one of them.  But they certainly have a better reputation than any of the others out there, that's true.

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
