You mean sell? Kind of curious how serious this post is. If you can't take the time to proof read do you actually take the time to research thoroughly?

A little harsh don't you think?

Have you seen all the misinformation from forums? I would act just like the service advisor, they are professionals and that is their job, let them do it. Coming in with a stock of papers from a forum and quotes is basically you saying you think you know more than them or the tech and chances are very high you don't. The last thing they want is print out from online experts who are more than likely 20 years old and just leased their first vehicle or old guys stuck with how they think things should work or be done because that is how it was in the 60's. Popular doesn't mean right, there is a ton of miss-information to weed through before getting to the right information. A TSB is good but they should be able to get that readily available.

Drop the truck off, take your loaner and let them work on it. If you have to go back then raise the stakes...

I actually agree with you 100%. But I did not do that. I came in prepared with that information, but I didn't throw it in his face. I did have all the papers with me. But in fact I didn't show it to him at all. I talked to him about it very politely. All I really said was I had read a lot about the issue online, and here is what some people have experienced and asked him what he thought. What I did show him was a picture I took of the leaking roof and of my "SD card has been removed" issue (also happening to others on the forum.)

The only reason I came in so prepared is because of how screwed I have been at the dealer throughout the years. I have seen your other post where you told someone " Anytime something pops up just take it to the dealer and they fix it and move on." I wish that has been my dealer experiences in life. That is FAR from anything I have ever experienced. I've tried doing it that way many times. My first issue was my odometer and DIC completely locking up. I had pictures, hell I had a video of it. They did nothing. They told me "can't reproduce the issue. Sorry." Yet I'd be willing to bet my life at 36,001 miles they'll be able to reproduce it no problem. "That'll be $835.45 please. You need a new DIC computer." It's very scary to think that you are trapped in a $50,000 vehicle that could have caulk all over the back window and scratches all over the plastic trim and roof spoiler and be told "oh well."

But having said that - I don't disagree with you. Had I thrown it in his face, started yelling and demanding - then maybe that was an appropriate response. But that is not what I did.

Those quotes were responses to me asking questions. I never EVER demanding anything. Here's how it went:

ME: Good morning. Truck is leaking. I appear to have a leaking rear window. I've read a little about it on the web.

SA: "Yeah those interwebs geniuses think they know it all."

ME: LOL. Indeed they do sir. Have you had or seen any Silverado's leaking before?

SA: "No, this is the first time I've ever heard of a Silverado leaking."

ME: Oh wow. That's surprising. As much as I've heard about it on the internet it sounds like it's been a major problem on the new Silverado's.

SA: "GM rolls out 1000 trucks a day. 37 people on a forum complaining isn't a major problem. It's a normal manufacturing defect."

Me: Good point.

ME: Ok, well thank you. A couple of questions for you. I really hoped on getting 10 years out of this truck. I don't plan to trade it in anytime soon. Do you think they will pay for secondary damages if there are any? I've heard some people say they developed a moldy smell/mold on the back seat where it dripped. Will GM replace that?

SA: "No, there's no way in hell they will pay to replace the back seat/carpet for mold. This is all in-organic material now that GM puts in these things. They don't grow mold."

**At this point in the conversation I was detecting the full a-hole-ness of the SA and couldn't take it anymore. So I inserted a little sarcasm**

ME: Wow. That's news to me seeing as how I have mold on the "in-organic" plastic siding on my house but ok. Last question, I have heard GM will make a loan payment if the truck goes beyond 30 days in the shop, is that true? Do you know anything about that?

SA: "No, GM does not make car payments if its here too long, and we sure as hell won't."

ME: Ok, thanks. Have a great day.

One thing that wasn't clear to me from your posts: are there other dealerships in your area you could try? Or have you used them in the past and had even worse experiences?

There are two within range of me. I have been to both before and had similar experiences. The main one (where I bought it from) is where I went today. The other one, they are nicer there, but they've physically damaged my trucks before. And then done patchwork to fix them. (Bent and scratched rims, then only paid to have them straightened and painted.) I love listening to people say "Oh man I would have made them give me a new rim." LOL. Those people either must have lawyers on retainer, or be a lot scarier looking than me. Cause all I get when I ask for a brand new rim or for something to be replaced is a "No."

I wouldn't sweat it, you have done nothing wrong here and it's clear your SA is a full on **** if it went down the way you are saying and i don't doubt you because i have run into SA just like that, usually because they realize you actually know more than they do!

My advice would be to find another dealer, truly from the sound and tone of your SA i would actually run away from them to be honest. If that's the way they treat a customer with a problem i wouldn't expect great things from any work they will do for you, we have already seen how many dealers are resorting to half arsed fixes like using sealant to try and hack fix it.

Among the more interesting things my dealer said was the fact that they wouldn't be handling this issue at all - that instead all leaks go to an "outsourced specialized leak detection company." I even stood right there while he called the company on speaker and talked to the guy to arrange them to come pick up the truck. Has anyone else heard of this?

Had a GM minivan with seat handle and reclining issues and the dealer sent it to a shop nearby to fix.  That was near ten years ago.

There was a Chevy dealer that had a sign like this in the service area.

Labor Rates

  • $80 hr
  • $160 hr if you watch
  • $300 hr if you supervise
  • If you bring in a vehicle covered in ice and snow, 1 hr labor will be added to invoice while it thaws out
  • We do not install customer supplied parts; take them back to where you bought then and have them installed

That's awesome! LOL.

No lie - I'd GLADLY pay $300 an hour to make sure its done right. That's less trouble than 4 visits and a scratched truck and sloppy caulk job.

My ‘14 Silverado leaked at the rear window and fin antenna. The dealer I go to also used a subcontractor for the repair. I have no problem with this, because this company was a leak specialist and better suited to find and fix it then the dealership.

Now, the rest of your post, I’d find a new dealer. Nobody likes to hear from internet mechanics, but the dealer should respect the fact that there is an issue and you want it fixed.
