Yeah I had that same thought back in '08 the first time I dug into a 4L60E in a '00 Jimmy that had a bad 1-2 shift solenoid (among 100 other problems). Guess they use better wiring inside there than they do outside. Or, the new tranny fluid they use has dielectric properties.

Submerged in oil will prevent corrosion.  It does cause issues with wire flexibility though, but since it never moves it does create issues.  Surprised it acted up for them.  Usually sporatic issues only show up on the drive home from the dealership. Pretty sure the update was just about the most on-topic post.  Thanks for updating.

9.9 out of 10 dealerships are parts changers. They got lucky this time.

I like to think I helped a little bit.  I pulled the codes, printed them out.  Captured the freeze frame of the code and the temp that showed really low and graphs of the transmission fluid temps while driving.  I can't take all of the credit though, there are 2 dealerships on the way to this one, one I can almost walk to from my house but I go to the one I do because they've been the best out of the others in the area for service.

Yeah, that definitely helped. Those guys don't get paid much to do lengthy diagnostics. They'll normally grab a part off the shelf, or off a vehicle on the lot and try it out - if it works, they install it, bill it, ship it. GM not only cuts corners on their vehicles, but they screw their techs as well.
