I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 4x4 5.3l V8 with the 8 speed transmission. I already flushed out my transmission and filled it back up with the Mobil 1™ Synthetic LV ATF HP blue label. The question is, do i also use the HP fluid for my transfer case? Or do i need to use just a standard ATF fluid instead. I cant seem to find a straight answer on this. The owners manual states to use DEXRON®-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid. Would using regular ATF in the transfer case and HP ATF in the transmission cause any issues? Thanks in advance!

One would have to surmise that what the manual tells you to use is what you should use - and nothing else?

Alrighty appreciate it, just wanted to be 100% sure before going after it. Always good to get a second opinion.

You can use the same thing you put in the transmission.

I would suggest using Amsoil instead, but I am a strong believer in Amsoil products, really good stuff!.

Okay, so It wouldn't hurt using the HP fluid over the normal ATF that is recommended? I'm not really sure about the specifics of the HP vs Normal ATF fluid and how it would go about affecting the transfer case. I just know that the HP is definitely the fluid to use on the 8 speed transmissions. Especially the 17 models.

Use the DEXRON-VI like the owners manual states.

There is no such a thing as "Normal ATF" so I don't know what you mean by that.

 :dunno:

Each ATF has a specific viscosity and specific friction modifier package.

The LV fluid has a lower viscosity and slightly different friction profile.

The designing engineer called out this fluid based on those parameters.

Correct, it won't hurt.

When you go to drain the transfer case, don't be too surprised to see quite a bit of metal on the magnetic drain plug.   When I changed the transfer fluid on my previous 2014 at around 60 or 65k miles, I was surprised and, came to find out on this forum that it was normal to see a good amount of shavings on the drain plug.

If you want to go with AMSOIL it takes the Fuel Efficient ATF product code ATL.    You can find out what all your truck takes  buy looking it up here.

Like i said, im not big on the specifics of ATF lol. So by "normal" i mean the non LV ATF HP version by M1. As they have that version as well as Mobil™ DEXRON-VI ATF. Sorry for not clarifying. Appreciate it!

Ive seen some videos and the amount of shavings that end up on the plug. Normally any metal shavings are a big red flag but i guess chevy/gmc know otherwise. Thanks!
