Where to buy 15 a 4.3 Engine Assembly

Looking to pick up a new engine for my 15 Silverado. I've been searching around the internet and haven't been able to find a good deal. Was looking for an engine with around 100k or less. I don't think rebuilding it is a good idea, unless I'm wrong. Thanks,

What happened to your original motor?

It will let you search all the local and nationwide salvage yards that are apart of that system. Surely you'll find an engine somewhere.

We can't comment if  a rebuild is a good idea without more information.  Installing a new engine is a major investment and I wouldn't look for a replacement with anywhere near 100k.  I would go to a place that specializes in rebuilt engines and get their professional opinion and an estimate.  The initial cost will be higher than a DIY but it will include a guarantee, peace of mind and be a whole lot easier!

Nothing is "wrong." It has 250k. It ticks obnoxiously loud. The motor could last another 20k miles so I'm trying to plan for when it does decide to go.

I don't think rebuilding it is worth it. I'd rather just attempt to find a used motor and install it. The truck is a work truck so it isn't in perfect condition by any means. Plus if I were to spend a bunch of money rebuilding this motor, I'd rather just buy a brand new truck. This truck does have 250k miles so it is used a lot so I like the idea of not having a "perfect" truck. I'm hoping to find a used motor for around $1500, hopefully without more then 100k miles.

Personally (I'm kinda in your situation, with a higher mileage truck that I'd like to keep going for awhile), I would first try to find a relatively low mileage engine that I can see/hear run, then buy it and swap it in when it's convenient.  Failing that (or if my current engine started sounding worse or more terminal), I would buy a cheap used engine from a junkyard, rebuild it myself, then swap it when convenient.

This motor ever have any work done to it? Curious as I own a 4.3 too.

I highly recommend a crate engine. These LS engines have far too many intricate pitfalls that can make the thing self destruct. It's not like the old days where anybody with the drive and ability to operate a ratchet wrench could tear one down and rebuild it no problem. Not so easy anymore. Pinch that little .06-cent o-ring that seals the pickup tube to the pump, and you've lowered the oil pressure on your fresh rebuild and started the clock ticking for when that finally blows. That's just one of a few pitfalls ...

 

An engine swap is something I only want to do ONCE. If you're sure you're going to keep the truck for the next 10 years, 5 at a bare minimum, then go crate all day long. Not from GM, either - they couldn't build it right the first time! Go ANYWHERE that builds nothing but engines, offers a decent warranty, and that the general online consensus says they're a solid company with a well built engine.
