Tips on Buying GMC 2500 Diesel - I want to come back...

Recommended Posts

Ok,

I want to come back to the GMC/Chevy family.  For over 20 years, I owned a 98 GMC Suburban, putting over 230k miles on it myself and LOVED the truck. I too owned a 2003 Chevy 1500...put many miles on it too.

I am looking at the GMC/Chevy 2500 series diesel trucks.  I will stay within the 2016-2019 year range, with about $35k plus'ish budget.  I might look at the 2021 trucks, only due to many deals/rebates etc.

What suggestions or tips are out there for these trucks?  What should I watch out for and/or look at getting?

So, a few years ago, I bought a 2015 Ram 1500 4x4 EcoDiesel Lonestar -- well, I have been disappointed with  Chrysler/Fiat (FCA).  Short story, they lied about the ecodiesel, and after forced recall ECM update, they sucked all performance etc., from the truck.  When I had my suburban, I never had so many recalls, been lied to, and never had poor performance.

Thanks, for any suggestions that you will provide.  Gary

A word of advice on buying a used truck, especially a diesel or any vehicle that appears to no be original.  A friend was telling me the horror story about a used private owner Silverado diesel his son purchased not long ago.  He a carpenter and found a used 2019 K2500 for sale and purchased it from the owner.  I guess he was having some issues and since it was still under warranty, he took it the Chevy dealer only to find out the warranty is blocked for ECM tampering.  Found that out when he took truck to Chevy dealer for some minor repair under warranty.

Has anyone found a blanket that fits the lm2 turbo or modified one to fit?
Amazon has some inexpensive blankets for other turbos I wouldn't be against modifying.

      Hello,

I am about to buy a 6.6L Duramax 14' 2500hd Sierra with 136K on it. But I just learned it has a small heating core leak, the dealer is replacing the whole core prior to purchase. Should I proceed with this purchase? Or is this the sign of this truck going down hill. The service recorded were regular until 2018 then the car fax no longer shows any updates.

Any help would be appreciated, I have a 92 Sierra with a 5.7L small block so the diesel world I am not as comfortable with. Also do not want a newer truck as I do not want to deal with DEF and I would not be able to do a delete.

I recently bought a Sierra 1500 Denali because I love this truck but I am now noticing parts are really hard to find, I want to replace or delete my quad steer but have no idea where to start or look. I haven't been able to find anything in hours. Any help?

Okay guys I bought this truck from a dealership in September. It was used and I got a 30 Day warranty. After the 30 day period, this is what’s happening. I got in my truck and noticed a rough idle. My truck would shake and out of no where the check engine light starts flashing and my traction control light comes on. I took it to my buddies and we got a P0308 Misfire Detected Cylinder 8. So I did some research.. I also had a code which was P219B. Air/fuel mixture ratio.

I changed the spark plugs.. didn’t work. I moved coil packs.. the misfire didn’t move. So we watched Live data on the scanner and injector 7 was acting up. So we replaced all the injectors on that side and this truck is still missing.. I’ve ran seafoam through it and cleaned the throttle body and MAS.  My buddy things I have a valve issue or something wrong with the cylinder…

there is no AFM deleted or anything of that sort. The truck has worked flawlessly until now. 135,000 miles on it. The rocker arms all
      looked great.

please someone give me something to try. I just want my truck fixed lol.

posting a link below of what it’s doing…
