Extended warranty. Got the truck back last week after an engine rebuild. Made it 400 miles, now the injectors took a sh*t.

 

Hope they cover this one too.. after this I might just dump the truck and buy a Tundra. I do not want to be on the side of the road in 120 degree AZ Summers.

Better not buy a new Tundra then.  Stick to 2021 or earlier Tundras, the new ones are having their own fair share of issues.

I prefer to just keep this truck. It's paid for (paid it off just recently), but of course it's having problems now. Nothing seems to be built to last anymore. The other option is a 2500 Gasser. I heard the L8T is a solid engine.

I hear you loud and clear.   I just paid off my 2020 last year and I REALLY DONT  want to purchase a new truck anytime soon, but at 126K miles I figure I cant complain if I get to 200K, which should be in 2 years or so. 

 

An HD gasser is about as dead nuts reliable as you can get, if you don't mind the piss poor MPG's

That might be the way to go unless federal mandates f*ck that motor up too. New regs are coming for med duty trucks.

Is there no major class action lawsuit against this?

Hopefully they issue a major fix on the 2025's?

I just bought my 2015 LTZ, 5.2 AFM. 137k miles and according to the carfax, no engine work. I changed the plugs, engine oil and did a tranny filter and fluid flush in the 2 weeks I have had the truck.

Less than 1% of trucks are affected by the lifter issues.  Granted, I don't want to be that 1%, but I can assure you that of that 1%, near 100% are getting online to complain about it when it happens to then, which will make it look a lot more frequent of an occurrence than it really is.

Exactly. 

I don't know anyone that has had this problem. I know a lot of guys in GM trucks.

A not forget people come to these sites just to bash the brand and not even own a GM product. Alot are new sign-ups with 1 post or so and say " I just had the same thing happen to me" and continue bashing the truck to only not heard from again. Think about it I could join a Ford, Dodge etc forum and post something bashing the brand like engine issues etc and not even own one just to create panic on the site and rumors. Not that I don't believe all of it I just don't trust a lot of what I read on forums.

I know 4 people that had this issue including myself on my 2018 silverado 6.2 they were all around 80k to 100k kms when it happened the other 3 were 5.3s mine was the only 6.2 that had it so far. I have a 2020 1500 6.2 right now and haven't had any issues yet knock on wood it has 125k kms

I have about 550 miles on my rebuilt 6.2L going to change the oil again (did it the first 2 hours after idle). An exhaust valve spring cracked in three places on cylinder 4 on the rebuild. Replaced the valve spring last Thursday. Drove it every day so far and haven't had any issues (a little over 200 miles).

 

I hope I fall into the 97% that don't have a lifter failure now that this L87 has been rebuilt with updated parts.

I do not believe it is this low. Of the 4 people I know with them, 1 is a diesel, and 2 of the other three (mine included in the 2) have had a minimum of a bank of lifters replaced. Small sample size, but it is hard for me to believe the number is that low especially given the dealer stocks the parts for lifter jobs.

Most people only join a forum when they have an issue. Last time i checked there was only like 333K people on this board. Out of that number, how many had lifter failures? Between 2019 and March of 2024 there were 2,906,782 Silverado's sold(in the US, NOT INCLUDING GMC SIERRAS)  So using those numbers alone, ONLY 11.46% of SILVERADO owners are even on this board, and out of that number, how many have had lifter failures?? SO 1% is a totally plausible number.
