6.6 Gas Chevy LT 2500HD Question:

I had the hood open for a couple days and when I went to try and start the pickup it was dead. I figured I could leave it open as there was no courtesy light underneath the hood.

Is there something that would drain the battery by leaving the hood open?

Thanks!

Unless the BCM retains power on a circuit due to the sensor showing the hood open there should be no drain on the battery from it. You may want to check to see if there are any campaigns open on your truck for electronics. The one just done on my 2024 did help with battery running down.

Well I am here to report some findings:

I do hear something powering off when I shut the hood, so after my battery died from having the hood open I decided to charge it over night and shut the hood. I've checked it 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours later now...full battery.

So something must draw the battery down with the hood open - figured I'd share so nobody else makes that same mistake! :)

Interesting.  I have propped open my hood about 8" continuously for the last 2 months because otherwise rats will go in and chew things up and make nests.  No problem with battery running down, even after sitting for a week at a time.  2024 2500HD WT gasser.
