  3. This week, I'll slowly detail the installation of the GM upfitter switches. They're going in a 2020 GMC Sierra AT4. If you're not familiar with the Upfitter Switches, they're a bank of 5 switches for controlling whatever you want to add (snowplow stuff, external lights, compressors, etc). They are/were orderable from the factory, in fact my truck came with them. Google is your friend... Unfortunately, neither the factory nor the dealer (generally) install the upfitter switches for you. As a matter of fact, my window sticker says "UPFITTER SWITCHES(5) CUSTOMER RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLATION" This means you'll be installing the switches yourself. Honestly it seems like no big deal... but I find the instructions confusing, so I thought I'd document my installation for others. The switches themselves are just to the left of the steering wheel, on the kick panel. This part was already installed in my truck. If you are adding the upfitter switches to your truck, you may have to purchase the kickpanel and switches separately from the kit. The kit includes three main parts: A set of fuses and bolts to connect to the secondary battery, a long extension cable for the power, and a fuse block that gets installed behind the switch kickpanel in the cab. So..... This week I'm going to slowly install the kit. I'll take pix and try and explain what I'm doing. Feel free to ask questions, etc. First, start here: https://www.gmupfitter.com/pages/technical-bulletins Search for your vehicle (in my case it's a 2020 C/K 3500HD). You should find a PDF that lists the instructions there somewhere. I'll try and come up with part numbers as I go. The option itself is called 9L7. Don't Forget - if you're ordering this kit separately, because it didn't come with your truck, you'll need not only the three main parts above, but the switches themselves, and the replacement kick panel, neither of which come as part of the kit.

  6. Just traded in my 2019 TB for a fully loaded AT4. One of the main reasons was to get the adaptive cruise and other features not available on the TB. Only just turned 200 miles, but love it so far!

  7. Picked up my truck last night. Everything looks good, body shop did a great job, and believe me I inspected it... They said they replaced the rear window but also discovered a leak in the front A-pillar where the sunroof drain wasn’t properly connected. Also noticed the carpet and padding was wet so they replaced that and all the carpeting. I guess I should say thank you that they actually took the time to inspect everything and replace what needed to be but REALLY.... Why do we spend $60k and buy brand new trucks? It’s supposed to rain for the next couple days so I guess we’ll see. Fingers crossed... Btw, the service rep was very apologetic and felt really bad, even though none of it was HIS fault. Nonetheless he gave me the next 4 oil change/tire rotations for free. A nice gesture...

  8. Finally took mine in to get leak fixed. Mine was only a small leak and didn’t do it all the time. They did the TSB caulking work and did a neat job, no globs, smears or scratches. I spoke to service mgr and they looked but found no cracks in frame. He said The spoiler was not sealed correctly and was leaking. So far it is dry after testing at home. Time will tell if it works.

  13. Yeah not what I was expecting at all! However I did cancel my appt with the dealer today. The problem fixed itself and later last night and all day today it’s been perfect. I’ll have them take a look when I get my first oil change probably next week.

  16. It dies off becouse of the ACM so its not bad. The muffler ibgot was supposed to be annoying loud but without the tape i couldnt even tell. I started with covering 1 screen at a time. I mqy have got a little ambitious by covering them all up though. I may remove 1 of the tapes. I dont have drone, and like ibsaid its not annoying at highway speeds.

  24. If money and downtime wasn’t an issue than I would hands down go with Kings again. Avoid Icons if you’re looking for a good balance between on and off road. They have digressive valving which means they are stiffer at slower speeds then soften up. Fox and Kings are progressive which is somewhat of the opposite. They ride way better on road and to be honest I would say off-road too. I’ve mainly experienced all of these setups in Toyota Tacomas and Tundras and there was a significant difference in brands. Fox and Kings were pretty close when it came to the 2.5s with adjusters. I have a few friends that have Kings on their GM 1500s and they swear by it. You have to remember that when you see the off-road racing scene, who are you most likely to see racers run? Kings. I’ve never seen a built professional off-road vehicle with Icons. Obviously my opinion and others may think differently but it makes somewhat of sense. All shock companies have issues here and there but if you look up Icon shocks you’ll see way more than others (i.e. leaks, corrosion). Personally, I would only recommend Kings. And about the downtime part, I meant rebuilding them. You have to take them off and send them somewhere to get rebuilt every 50k miles and it can take on average 2 weeks. I really don’t have that time for my daily driver. Also when I was building the Tacoma, I didn’t have a little one yet but now my daughter is 3 and growing so needed a balance between a truck and family daily vehicle and the Trail Boss was a good in between. Sorry for the long response. Hope that helps. Oh and I think the KO2s will ride better than the stock Wranglers. The difference will be stiffer for BFGs only because it’ll be E rated tires vs C rated for the Wranglers but the weight of the truck might balance it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  27. The mirror powers up when the truck is turned on. I verified this buy when I first hooked up the new mirror, nothing happened until I started the truck....only then could see the mirror dim. I can't 100% confirm though that one of the pins isn't all time hot though...I just know the mirror doesn't power on until the truck is started.

  31. Here are the pics. Black rubber domed screw holders up against the inside cap carpeting likely have a threaded insert(?), they don't appear to be snap-on covers over a nut, but they could be. Either way, a threaded screw going down through from the top into an underside fastener. My old XL100 just had a flat washer and a nut on the underside from the factory, these new parts are much nicer(and softer on my head). Mounting dimensions: 1) tracks are 46.125" apart on center; 2) actual track length 58.5"; 3) track end caps are 1.5" long each end; 4) cross bars are 56" wide flat mounting surface between the end covers, about 58" with end covers. There is a rubber seal between the tracks and the cap. Cross bars are easily adjustable for width. According to the dealer this is the Thule Tracker system (old style square bars). These old style cross bars are vinyl or rubber coated and are incredibly strong. There may be some wind noise at high speeds, but it was never noticeable in my 2010 Silverado LTZ. The bars remove very easy anyways, when not in use they can ride in the box if wind noise becomes an issue. The newer aero bars are stylish and have all types of accessories that mount to them, but I have no need for any of those. Adjustable forward/back mounting brackets tighten down with 2 allen head fasteners. Appears to be an easy job if you have someone to hold up the inside "nuts" for the track screws. I don't know if they use some type of sealant or not for the screw holes, I did not see any visible sealant on these. Never had any leak issues on the XL100 track screws.

  32. The idiot NY mayor is doing nothing but spreading fear. They need 30k ventilators!? I guess they will tube anyone who sneezes. Stupidest thing I have ever heard. HE BETTER BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SPREADING THAT BULLSHIT! COLDvid isnt going to need even 100 EXTRA vents compared to what already happens every single january (remember, somehow we have enough vents for the 50k deaths every year from flu and that season is ending). A ventilator costs $30-40k and is more sophisticated than any other hospital device save CT or MRI scanners - no company can just start cranking them out in a week. There is a pattern of fear mongering in certain states and municipalities - can you spot the pattern? Think about it when you vote, as I am convinced someone with an ax to grind has their finger on the panic button in the CDC... Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

  33. Just a little update. Tried two other knobs off Amazon, neither one worked in the right resistance range the Kicker amp looks for. So as of now, replacing the resistor on the circuit board of the OEM Kicker knob is the best (or only) way to get more bump out of it. I have located suitable pots to replace the factory one on the board with a different range but they come from China and everything is screwed up so that will be a project for another time. Either way, I’m still really pleased with how it’s working out. So if anyone is less than impressed with the Kicker as it comes, give it a try. I do work in the electronics field, but in my opinion, the resistor mod could be done by anyone with a soldering iron. Good luck.

  34. I've only had mine for 3 months, but so far I can say best truck I have ever owned(my last truck was a 2015 GMC 6.2L 4x4). Best on freeway has been 31.1, my average is ~21-22 around town, 26-27 freeway. So fun to drive, I love it. Hope i can keep this one for a long time!!!! Mike

  35. I have just under 600 miles on mine, purchased March 2nd., and haven't towed yet. I'm averaging 17+ mpg in local driving and that's almost two mpg better than my 08. I think that's pretty good for a truck with so few miles and one that weighs about a thousand pounds more. Looking forward to towing, hopefully later in the summer.

  36. I'm ~2,300 miles into mine and still just absolutely love it. Very happy with the get up, the fuel mileage, the transmission, how quiet it is, but also how you still know it's a diesel. 10/10 would buy again. I have not had to do an oil change or add DEF yet. The only things I dislike about my truck have nothing to do with the engine choice but the design overall: 1. The auto-stop/start feature that has to default to on. I started getting used to clicking it off each time, but installed the eliminator where it defaults to its last setting (OFF!). Best aftermarket purchase easily, don't have to worry about that any more. It's akin to dealing with a squeeky closet door for a few months - taking 10 seconds to finally spray the hinges with WD40 - and then it's silent... and you're like "why the hell did I wait so long to do that". 2. I really wish the truck had entry handles/grab handles in the overhead liner above each of the 4 doors in addition to the handles they have in place now. I know that's overkill but I would add that if I could. 3. Shouldn't be complaining here b/c I easily get 600-700 miles per tank if I'm on a highway trip... but I wish the fuel tank was slightly larger than 24 gallons (i think?)... I don't need it bigger but heck. 4. I got the 40/20/40 front bench because I just love the front bench (it's different). I would change the cup holders on it where they were slightly larger... a good judge of cup holder size is being able to fit a bottle of wine in it (for reference use only....) and my smaller yeti rambler with leather sleeve fits awfully snug.

  39. This is pissing me off. I've never been able to get my contacts to load to my truck infotainment system. 2019 truck, 2019 phone... You would think it would not be rocket science. Flash forward to yesterday, so we have completed outfitting a new 2020 2500 diesel WT (with the plain jane WT radio). The chief said all the officers can pair their phones to the truck if they wish. What do you know? It takes just a few seconds to pair and completely download my contacts to this bare bones radio. WTF GM??? Issue an update or whatever to my radio so I can use my flipping phone!!!

  40. Short version: Dynamat-ed both doors, drastically reduced rattle, but some remained without the sub. The worse part was the distortion from the door speakers, they were simply asked to be doing too much. Installed sub with bass knob, all dip switches up. Allowed me to flatten the head unit EQ and eliminated remaining rattles (and the heads up display shake which was also annoying). However it was clear that there was more left in the tank. After modding the knob I think I have this system perfect. I’ve been running the modded knob at full (so 40k resistance) with all types of music. In classic rock (mostly what I listen to) it sounds amazing, door speakers are now crystal clear, even at 100% volume (which is uncomfortably loud). Sub lets you feel the bass drum kick and the whole setup just plain rocks. In rap music that sub really, really cranks. In the name of science, I have also purchased two other inexpensive bass knobs from Amazon that use the same 3.5mm connector. I want to measure what resistance they operate in. Perhaps there is an off the shelf knob we can use unaltered to get a larger sweep. Because the downside to my mod at the moment is that it cannot be turned down below what was the previous maximum. You could use a smaller resistor but then the top end is not as high. Replacing the pot altogether is another option, but also not as DIY friendly. If there is a better knob to be used, that would be great. In the meantime I’m happy with what I’ve done. Why Kicker sells a knob that seems to throttle the system so much, I don’t understand....

  44. I work in healthcare with the type of patient that would require mechanical ventilation. For all intents and purposes, this is a flu. We had several flu like cases that tested negative for flu this season, but presented exactly the same. I believe covid 19 has ALREADY made the rounds weeks ago through the USA. A SARS2 presentation from covid19 is about as common as influenza complications, but if it is bad enough to put you in the ICU, you can die with either. Not as likely here as in China - you must look at South Korea to see how a democratic republic with modern heathcare copes with a new acute respiratory virus. I have seen many die from the flu. CV spreads quicker than flu, so it hit airports in december, hospitals and schools in jan, now is the leftovers. Same treatment as flu - drink lots of fluids, chicken soup, rest at home. Every year we test for flu, but it never stops it from spreading. I have no idea why this is being Ebola-ized except for being an election year. 100% media created hysteria that is screwing my 401k and my 529... Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
