  4. The press release says it best: "Instead of relying on fixed cylinder deactivation or switching between fixed patterns like current multi-cylinder engines, Tula’s DSF technology continuously makes dynamic firing decisions on an individual cylinder basis to deliver the required engine torque for all vehicle speeds and loads while avoiding vibration. Independent testing commissioned by Tula shows that the application of DSF technology can improve fuel efficiency in a multi-cylinder engine (4/6/8 cylinders) by as much as 15 percent when compared to a vehicle equipped with an engine that does not have cylinder deactivation." In short, GM has replicated the mechanical attributes of displacement on demand with a digital software solution. Will this technology see the light of day in the future? We sure hope so.
  5. The initial roll-out will focus on three key parts; the starter, battery, and fuel pump. Other components will be added in future model years. The service will be first offered on the new 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette, Silverado, and Silverado HD. More Chevrolet vehicles will roll out during the 2016 model year. Building on the 15-year history of connected vehicle technology through OnStar, the prognostic service relies on OnStar 4G LTE to provide data streams from sensors within the vehicle. When a customer has enrolled their properly equipped vehicle in this service, the data is sent to OnStar’s secure servers and proprietary algorithms are applied to assess whether certain conditions could impact vehicle performance. When indicated, notifications are sent to the customer via email, text message, in-vehicle alerts or through the OnStar RemoteLink smartphone app.
  6. After the assessment, drivers can choose to share the driving data and evaluation information with Progressive Insurance through its SnapShot discount program. Progressive will be the first insurance company to use OnStar Data to evaluate actual driving behavior. Only available in the United States the opt-in driving evaluation and data sharing will be available on all 2016 models, most 2015 models, and some 2013/2014 models.
  7. OnStar fulfilled over 35-million requests for driving directions in the last year and plans to leverage AtYourService to give drivers added information about or even coupons relating to their final destination. Among the first companies to support AtYourService will be major players like Dunkin Donuts and Priceline.com. Also rolling out for for full-service subscribers is the ability to book hotel reservations from behind the wheel. Said Scott Hudler, vice president, Global Consumer Engagement for Dunkin’ Donuts: “We can’t think of a more exciting and targeted way to connect with our guests than when they are in their vehicles looking for a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant. We’ll bring value to GM drivers while driving those consumers to our stores with instant incentives.”
  8. Is referencing a TSB really that bad? I've done it many times and have always been correct and get the exact service I need. For someone who does know what they are talking about, including a TSB to reference shouldn't upset anyone (service writer or tech) IMHO
  9. Takata is a global airbag manufacturer who supplies parts to many automakers, including Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, and General Motors. 7.8-million vehicles have been recalled so far for airbags that partially disintegrate, sending shrapnel flying when triggered. For comparison, General Motor produced over 6.5-million of the last generation pickups and SUVs from 2006 until 2013. It is unknown if the redesigned 2014+ models share similar versions of the potentially faulty airbag. GM-Trucks.com has contacted General Motors for clarification. General Motors said plans include forcing Takata to share the design of the airbag with its direct competitors to allow more production capacity. Stay with GM-Trucks.com for updates. 10. The vehicles tested for the title were: Chevrolet Colorado WT and Colorado Z71 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD Ford F150 2.7L EcoBoost and 3.5L EcoBoost Ford F-450 Ford Transit 350 HR and Transit 150 MR GMC Canyon SLT GMC Sierra Denali 2500 HD Also read: Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 concept marks return of legendary moniker Beating out the Ford's all new F-150 is a huge win for Chevrolet, as Truck of the Year winners typically use the award as leverage for marketing to consumers. Plan on seeing the Motor Trend Golden Calipers alongside the Colorado alot this year. How did the Editors of MT make their decision? Chevrolet says testing regimen went down like this: To determine which truck deserved top honors, the MOTOR TREND test team subjected all of the contenders to numerous instrumented and real-world road tests. First up was standard MOTOR TREND testing, which included: 0-60 mph and 1/4-mile acceleration, 60-0 mph braking, and maximum lateral grip - all without payload or trailered loads. A specific payload was then added to each truck and van, and the vehicles were then driven more than 250 miles to the Arizona/Nevada border to evaluate ride quality and loaded fuel economy. The vehicles were driven up and down the famed Davis Dam in Bullhead City, Ariz., for further assessment, including an instrumented test designed to simulate a passing situation while carrying a load. The team then moved to a world-class automotive proving grounds for instrumented acceleration tests with nominal weight trailers. Truck and trailer were also driven through a short handling course to evaluate acceleration, braking, maneuverability and outward visibility. The final phase of evaluation involved a 21-mile road loop through hills of Arizona's Hualapai Mountains. Following the team's intensive evaluation, the trucks were shipped to MOTOR TREND headquarters in El Segundo to undergo proprietary "Real MPG" fuel-economy testing. Using advanced exhaust gas and flow-rate analyzers, Real MPG measures tailpipe emissions every second during a three-hour, 88-mile drive around the Los Angeles area to record accurate real-world fuel economy. Once testing was completed, select MOTOR TREND editors convened to determine which truck would be crowed Truck of the Year. "When it came down to it, after over a week's worth of testing, we sat down, we hashed it all out. All the judges are asked to write down their top 3 picks - and third place was the Ford F-150; second place was Ford Transit, and by unanimous vote was the Chevrolet Colorado" Edward Loh, Editor-In-Chief of Motor Trend Read Motor Trend's Article on the 2015 Colorado here View attachment: ChevyColoradoMTTOY08.jpg Motor Trend Editor-In-Chief Edward Loh (left) presents General Motors CEO Mary Barra with the 2015 Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award for the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. 11. The first ZR2 pickup was produced in 1994 and was available as an option on the compact S-10. It added a beefed up rear axle, wider suspension track, larger BFG All-Terrrain KO tires, and four-wheel drive. Powered by a huge 4.3L V6, the ZR2 was unstoppable off-road. Unfortunately, when the S-10 was shelved in 2003, so was the ZR2. Now, in 2014, it looks like it may return. Introduced last night in Los Angles, the Colorado ZR2 concept is modified extensively from a "stock" Chevrolet Colorado. Most dramatically, the ZR2 is four-inches wider than a factory Colorado. The ZR2 also has a 2-inch lift, unique front and rear fascias, flip out tow hooks, and electronic locking front/rear differentials. Read here to see the official horsepower and torque figures for the 2.8L Duramax Engine The Colorado ZR2 is all about off-road capability and is designed in the spirit of a pre-runner. New front control arms are paired with new shocks that have reserve reservoirs mounted in the front fascia. Approach and departure have been greatly improved over the stock Colorado's 25/21 degree angles. The ZR2 has a 30.7 degree approach angle and a 22.7 degree departure angle. Main features of the Colorado ZR2 Concept Builds on Colorado Z71 as a platform Four inches wider than production Z71 Two-inch lift kit Integrated skid plates 30.7-degree approach / 22.7-degree departure Flip-out aluminum tow hooks Front winch integrated with front fascia Mono-tune coil-over shock absorbers by King Electronic front/rear locking differentials 18-inch aluminum multi-spoke bead-lock rims Custom wheel flares All new grille and headlight housings New front and rear fascia Cyprus Green Exterior Color with Henna Orange accents ZR2 logos on exterior and interior 2.8L Duramax Diesel / 181-hp & 369 lb-ft Chevrolet is giving strong signals that the ZR2 will be produced. See this quote; “Chevrolet has a heritage of the ZR2 representing the ultimate in production-based off-road capability and we’ll gauge the public’s interest in this concept as we continue to explore the possibilities for the all-new Colorado.” As any current or prior ZR2 owner will attest, the idea that the RPO code could make a come back is exciting. Look for more details about the ZR2 in the future, tell Chevrolet you want one, and cross your fingers!
  12. The company released the official power figures at the LA Auto Show this week as part of the Colorado ZR2 Concept's unveiling. The smaller "baby" Duramax is rumored to be paired with GM's new 8-speed transmission. With close to 400 lb-ft of torque, the new mid-size Colorado and Canyon are expected to have full-size-pickup-like capacity when equipped with the new 2.8L diesel engine. GM-Trucks.com will have more information on the new diesel as it becomes available.
  13. Chevrolet has been leaking small details about the new (2016) Volt for the last month but this is the first time we've seen a completely undisguised photograph of the vehicle. This photo was posted to Facebook by a GM employee late last night. What we know about the second generation Volt so far: All new Voltec extended range system Increased electric range New battery pack is 30-lbs lighter and increases capacity by 20% by volume Two motor drive unit operates 5-12 percent more efficiently and weighs 100-lbs less All new 1.5L gasoline engine will act as range extender New charging system will use electric rates and GPS to determine location for best charging time and settings to use New charging status indicator will allow for quick reference without entering vehicle New charging cord is 25ft longer for increased access Look for more details and photos of the new Volt to surface soon!

The outdoors-themed concept debuts at the SEMA Show this week and is paired with the new Polaris® ACE™ – a revolutionary single-seat, sit-in off-road vehicle launched earlier this year. The concept truck is based on the production 2015 Silverado 1500 crew cab with a 6-foot-6-inch cargo bed and the Z71 Off-Road package. “The Silverado is designed to work hard for its owner, on or off the clock,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing. “Pairing it with the new Polaris ACE perfectly illustrates how the Silverado easily changes its support role when it’s time to leave the job site for the trail head.” Blending production accessories available through Chevrolet dealers and concept components under evaluation for future production, the Silverado Polaris ACE+ concept conveys the ruggedness of today’s outdoorsmen. Its ready-for-anything stance is driven by large, 33-inch–by-12.5-inch off-road tires mounted on Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch aluminum wheels, while concept fender flares enhance the truck’s broad-shouldered appearance. Additional exterior features include a concept bed-mounted sports bar with custom LED lighting and a concept front nudge bar. The cargo bed also features the available, spray-on bedliner – with the Chevy bowtie logo – that’s offered on all Silverado models for 2015. A black exterior, with blacked-out trim, is accented with graphics coordinated with the Polaris ACE. Inside, the concept truck features leather-trimmed seating and the latest connectivity features offered across the Silverado lineup, including MyLink enhancements with Text Messaging Alerts, Siri Eyes Free and new, available OnStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. It provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected (includes a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial) – a particularly helpful feature out on the trail. Under the hood, the Silverado Polaris ACE+ concept sports the EcoTec3 5.3L V-8, which features direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) to help generate 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine’s advanced technologies also enable an EPA-estimated 23 mpg on the highway (2WD models), giving Silverado the best V-8 highway efficiency in the segment. Engine performance is enhanced with concept air-induction and exhaust systems, while braking performance is enhanced with a concept Brembo brake package featuring large, 16-inch slotted front rotors matched with six-piston calipers and high-performance brake pads. The concept and performance components don’t alter the capability of the Silverado, which includes a maximum payload capacity of 2,100 pounds for crew cab/6-foot-by-6-inch box configurations with the 5.3L engine and 4WD – and a trailering capacity of 10,800 pounds. When equipped with the available 6.2L engine and Max Trailering Package, the maximum trailering capability for the 2015 Silverado 1500 increases to 12,000 pounds.
  15. As many truck and SUV owners know, the performance of the transmission is a big part in how confident you feel behind the wheel. While only a single part in a complex powertrain, the transmission is the glue that links an engine to the road. When the transmission hesitates, the entire vehicle’s performance suffers. A great vehicle needs an equally great transmission. After only a few minutes behind the wheel it became obvious that shifts are quicker and smoother than the past generation 6-speed. Having two more gears allows the engine to stay in the sweet spot of the RPM range more often. Tip into the throttle and with no drama the 8L90 quickly snaps to the right gear. However, the most noticeable change is how well shifts are managed by the faster next generation transmission controller. Dependable and crisp transmission performance is a benefit in any situation. A slight bump in fuel economy is the icing on the cake, allowing for a +1mpg bump in fuel economy. Under full throttle we found gear changes effortless, quick, and solid. Under light throttle we could barely notice the vehicle had shifted at all. Where the past generation 6-speed sometimes gets confused or doesn't shift as cleanly as we’d like, the new 8-speed was always seemed on point. Unfortunately, we're slightly surprised to see that manual shifting with the 8-speed hasn't changed. Commands to select a specific gear using the shifter stalk are still only a suggestion, with the transmission controller having a final say. In our short test, shift requests sometimes took seconds if the truck didn't agree with the gear we requested. We drove an 8L90 equipped 2015 Sierra Denali and Yukon Denali on urban streets during rush hour. We did not get an opportunity to measure fuel economy. While only available with the 420-horsepower 6.2L EcoTec V8 during model-year 2015, expect this 8-speed to be available in the rest of the full-size truck and SUV line in the near future. When we have an extended amount of time with another 8-speed truck we will report back with fuel economy figures and more driving impressions.
  16. Agreed. Mudflaps would be a must. Lots of dirt thrown on the side and this isn't even a Z71 with the off-road tires! They wouldn't be giving up much in a switch. I do love the floor shift.
  17. Great comment. Despite feeling not much smaller than a full-size on the inside and out, the Colorado drives much smaller than a full-size. In fact, I'd compare it more to the ride of an Equinox. It fits the niche you've described to a "T". Take your wife to the dealership.
  18. You'll get close. The Diesel is coming next year. I have not heard anything about a manual but will ask. This is one of the better 3.6L V6 implementations I've driven.
  19. Thank you! I will make sure I address your concerns in Parts 2 & 3. I can say there is no vibration at all. I'm very happy with the way the Colorado drives.. It's consistent and predictable at all speeds. I will address this more during Friday's thread. I promise we will tell you everything. If we don't like something, you will know.
  20. Words & Photos by: Zane & Josh Merva Editors, GM-Trucks.com 10/27/2014 This week, Josh and I are re-starting our live post series. Get ready for for a three part, hands-on review experience of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Not too many weeks ago we brought you our First Drive review of the 2015 Colorado and Canyon. This week, we've got a lot more time with Chevy's new mid-size pickup and we want to share the experience. Today, we'll dive into how our review Colorado is equipped. We'll also cover notable features and our first thoughts after driving it on our home roads. Wednesday, we will bring you a deeper look into the interior of the 2015 Colorado. We'll examine Chevy MyLink, the OnStar 4G WiFi hotspot, and the overall proportions of the crew cab configuration. Friday, we'll wrap it all up when we focus on the performance and handling of the new Colorado. We will examine the 3.6L V6, daily fuel economy, chassis responsiveness and towing capabilities. We hope this three part series will give you a better understanding of what the 2015 Colorado is all about. Let's start things off! Our review Colorado Here is the Colorado we're driving this week. It's a four-door crew cab equipped in LT trim. Here is the window sticker. Our tester has a recommended price of $38,870. How it's equipped This long box, 4x4, crew cab Colorado has a starting price of $32,385. Here's what kind of options it is equipped with. -Luxury Package [$1,080] -18" Dark Argent Wheels [$1,000] -Leather Seats [$950] -LT Convenience Package [$615] -Bose Audio System [$500] -Chevy MyLink with Navigation [$495] -Safety Package [$395] -Locking Rear Differential [$325] -Trailering Equipment Package [$250] After $5,610 of options and a $875 delivery charge, this 2015 Colorado has an MSRP of $38,870 We'll dive into these features, how well they work, and if they are worth the price later this week. Notable Features & Improvements The 2015 Colorado is completely new. In fact, it shares more with the 2015 Silverado than the last generation Colorado. The interior has many similarities with big brother Silverado. Rear corner steps into the bed have also trickled down from the full-size line. The rear end even looks like the Silverado with the tail lamps being near matches. You can even get a spray in liner from the factory. Yup, just like the Silverado. The Colorado features inlaid doors for a quieter ride with less wind noise inside the cab. First Impressions This is the first time we've had a chance to try the Colorado on our home roads. It's been great to compare the Colorado to our 2011 Sierra and other full and mid-size pickups we've driven in the past. The Colorado has grown in size. It doesn't feel much smaller than the Silverado, but is it more maneuverable? Like us, you were probably disappointed that the 4.3L V6 didn't make its way into the Colorado. Is the 3.6L V6 up to task? How does the interior compare to the last generation? Is it a huge step up as claimed? Will it appeal to crossover buyers? Is this mid-size actually more refined than the Silverado? That's a question we're seriously considering as we drive the Colorado this week What's next Check back this week as we continue this Live Review on Wednesday and Friday. Each day we'll start a new thread. Here's what you can expect. Wednesday: We take a deep dive inside. We'll explore the Colorado's interior, MyLink System, Lane Departure and Collision avoidance systems, WiFi hotspot, and the driver/passenger experience. Friday: We will explore the Colorado's 305-horsepower 3.6L V6 and how see well it serves as the optional engine in a pickup. We'll share fuel economy, daily driving observations, and towing performance. We will also explore the chassis, braking, transmission, and 4x4 system. Your turn Time for you to take part. Ask us anything! We'd love to share what driving this truck is like and will try our best to answer any questions you have about the 2015 Colorado.

  22. The test includes driving a vehicle up onto two staggered ramps. The deflection from the bed to the body is then measured. The tailgate is also operated under stress to test for binding and warping. After AMCI's third-party testing was complete, the Silverado 2500HD proved to be stronger than the Ford F-250. While Silverado HD only allowed .26-inches of twist, Ford Super Duty's frame warped .94-inches. Even worse, the Ford's tailgate was bound shut, unable to be opened. Chevrolet credits the use of high-strength roll-formed steel in the Silverado's bed for the strong results. Ford uses a less durable stamped steel. Take a look at how the test was completed for yourself. “The use of high-strength steel in the Silverado HD is what allows the Silverado to handle even the toughest of jobs,” said Jeff Luke, General Motors’ executive chief engineer for full-size trucks. “Paired with a fully boxed frame, high-strength steel is what makes the Silverado come from the family of the most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickups on the road.”
  23. Late last night, a GM-Trucks.com member noticed that the 2015 Silverado fuel economy numbers had been updated at fueleconomy.gov. Only available with the 420-horsepower 6.2L V8 engine, GM's new 8-speed will net Silverado and Sierra owners 1-additional MPG in both city and highway driving. We will report on the "official" numbers if and when the company releases them publicly. 24. Deliveries for the just launched midsize pickup started under two weeks ago. We just had our first drive of the Colorado and Canyon last week. General Motors has notified the National Traffic and Safety Administration that driver's side airbags are wired incorrectly and may not function as designed. The issue is reported to be fixable with a software update. So far 49 of the pickups have been delivered. Owners will be given a free loaner until the software update is available "in a few days." 25. By Zane Merva Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com 10/2/2014 The all new Silverado is a hot seller. Chevrolet sold over 50,000 of the new model in September. The truck now occupies 39% of the large pickup market. The strong monthly sales numbers represent a 54% increase over the same period in 2013. Light duty Silverado sales rose 71% and had the strongest month in a decade. The Silverado's new double cab is also proving to be popular, with sales of the shorter two door model up 130% over last year. The brand also noted it had sold approximately 2,000 of the special 2014 Rally Edition pickups. “Our Chevrolet dealers took advantage of pent-up demand in the full-size truck segment and by offering customers more choices, we’re bringing more truck buyers to Chevrolet at the expense of some of our competitors,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “We intend to continue this momentum with new models such as the Rally Edition – released in August – and the High County HD, which shipped to dealers last month.”
