CREE 5W LED Back Up Lights Lights

Recommended Posts

Just got done installing them in my truck. I opted for the cargo style lamps because I have a back up camera and after speaking with someone at Retro Sulotions they recommended these. They are a little brighter but not as bright as I thought they would be and not bright as the post show here with the other style bulb. So if you aren't sure what bulb to get I would go with the Plano-Convex lens and not think twice about it. :)

What bulb number does yours take? I got the 3157s with the radial LEDs and honestly I'm not thrilled with their light output immediately at the rear of the truck. The camera can't see much unless I have the brake lights on too and even just backing up normally the light seems to be too far back. I may end up going back to normal bulbs.

Mine takes the 921 bulbs. Well if what you are saying is that the Conex lens makes it harder to see with the camera I may have made the right choice with these. The light pattern of these are similuar to the standard bulds but a little brighter. They do help me see more through the camera but not as much as I expected. Those pictures of others showing the differance really show them having a lot more light output, or at least they seem too.

Cleaning the lens for the camera definitely helped as did the difference in weather for both the camera and backing using the mirrors.. I thing everything being wet last night from the snow/slop/rain storm we had made the lights glare real bad and limit their usefulness. Tonight I left my parents after their Christmas party and they worked great.

Ok, just pulled my taillight (2009) and checked & reverse lamp was a 3047. Now, what should I order to replace: 921 or 3157 (w or w/o radial). No back-up camera. Thanks for any & all replies.

I ordered the 3157 with the radial LEDs, it throws a lot of light straight out and on the ground behind the truck.

Have people ordered the 1.5 or the 3 watt dome lights? I don't know if the 3's would be too bright or not...if that's possible. Thanks guys!

I purchased the three watt festoon lamps. I put them in the rear dome light (I have ECSB). They do not seem much brighter than the stock ones in the front dome light but the light is white instead of yellow. It is not over powering at night either, IMO.

Here is the line from the order form:

High Power 578 211 212 212-2 214 Festoon LED Bulbs (WHITE, Other)

Has anyone with the 3157 radial w/top LED lamps noticed the 'top' LED lamp (the one behind the lens) not working?

Mine was not working, I took it out and looked it over for cold solder joints, cracks, etc. It looked fine. I put it back in and the same LED was out. I filled out the RMA form and removed the lamp again. I tested it before I shipped it and it worked just fine! Not sure if it is intermittent or what the issue is. Tried it at various voltage levels and the troublesome LED lit every time.

So now that I have these I hate the way my headlights look in comparison. Any bulbs I can replace with to produce the same color?

People will inevitibly recommend HIDs but I'd pass. HIDs have no place in a halogen housing. I haven't searched to see if these bulbs are available in our size but in my Tacoma I ran the Osram Silverstar (note: this is not the lousy Sylvania Silverstar that you can buy at autozone and the like, I got them from ebay from somone who imported them from Europe) and Philips Night Breakers. Both sets still stock wattage but much brighter. Also, HIRs (again, not sure if they're available in the correct size) are excellent as well.

HIRs can be modified to fit the brights but not the lows from what I remember, I was going to use HIR but couldn't find them for the low beams. Thinking of either picking up a set of projector headlights or retrofitting in a set.

well i got my 921 LED lights in the mail yesterday and couldn't wait to install them. Went out today, and found out my 09 silverado has the 3047 tails...damn

Gonna see if I can exchange the 921s for the 3047s, unless someone wants to buy my 921s :)

Or you could pop them into your cargo lights to match!

+1 I did mine and they do make a huge difference

So for people with a camera, if you had to order them again, would you get the ones with or without the convex lens? I have a 2009 and am going to pull them out tomorrow to confirm which bulb I have.

Cargo lights? where's that at? On top of the cab?

I have the ones without the convex lens and IMO it is not worth the $40.00 plus shipping for the differance in light you get on the camera screen. I still get more light on the screen using the brakes when backing up. I don't know about the lenses and how much better or even if they are...
