Crew Cab Beds

Anybody ever wonder why GM does not offer a cc crab with a 6.5 ft bed. I would love to have bought a crew but the 5'8" bed is not for me. To get one and go with 3/4 ton it is more truck than I really need, along with the price and mpg. To me it does not make sense that you can buy an ext cab long bed but cannot buy a crew with a standard bed. That is all....

i believe they don't offer it because they can;t fit a 6.5 bed on the frame...my honest opinion is the bed on a CC is close to useless because of lack of space, let alone you get a load in their and the truck is sagging because the weight is so far back in the truck

The ext cab 6.5 and crew with 5.5 use the same frame and wheelbase, where the crew with a 6.5 would require a separate frame and wheelbase to build components for. Ford is the only game in town with a 1/2 ton on the market that offers a crew 6.5 configuration. Dodge use the same wheel base and frame for their crew 5.5 ext cab 6.5 and erg cab 8 ft bed. It's a bit of a niche market for Ford, since they still sell far more 5.5 cc vs their 6.5 cc.

The 6.5 won't fit in most garages where the 5.5 cc will, turning radius can be another draw back to the longer trucks as well. I here yea though, I too wish they offered one.

Spy photos of a next generation 1500 that was recently caught indicate that a crew cab with a standard bed will be offered in the future.

I'll argue that the 9" difference isn't that big of a deal for most guys. Why get all bent out of shape about losing 9" of bed, when you lose 18" (twice as much) by stepping down to the Ext Cab from the Reg Cab

Though I'd have to admit, my garage wouldn't probably hold a CC with 6.5' bed

I had the 6.5 on my last truck and moving up to the 8' has been nothing but great. Miss the extra room in the cab but everything fits in an 8' box. I think they should make a crew with an 8.

You can still get an ext. cab with an 8 foot bed. That is what I use for work.

I've never seen an Ext. Cab with an 8 ft bed. Is it a special order?

Not special order just most dealers don't stock them. My dealer had to trade another dealer both times I bought one in 98 and 2011. I don't see the point of a truck without a 8' bed but that is just my opinion based on my use for a truck.

I have a CCLB. Fits in the garage. (when the duck boat isn't in there) Took a little gettin used to, but I love it! Have room in the cab and the bed.

That is a big truck. Lucky you have a huge garage.:-) A friend of mine had an F350 Crew LongBed, it was like driving a railroad car and took a lot of space to turn around. ;-) I haven't seen one of our trucks with a long bed in Mass. yet.

I miss the 6.5 length because my quad used to just fit with the tail gate up, not a chance now. I also miss the power of my old dmax but thats another story.

Same here! The toolbox is indispensable, but has to be removed for any real hauling.
